The food was excellent. I had a delicious soup and a curry that was quite good. My husband got a sizzling platter he loved!

Not many dining choices in this town. Jungle Jims was average at best but may be the best little…read moreSt. Anthony has to offer. That's probably why most of my fellow cruise passengers probably ate on the ship. This place was empty except for myself and the only staff member I saw: the bartender and only waiter at the time. But that didn't deter me. He welcomed me and told me to sit anywhere. I have to assume it gets busy in the evenings. This is a small chain with several locations in eastern Canada. It's a sports bar decorated in a kitchy jungle/beachy theme; bamboo, cartoon Mariachi animals., colorful menus. Cocktails were a mix of typical Polynesian and some unusual ones. They were all offered in two sizes: the small with 1 ounce of alcohol and the large with 2. An interesting idea. However, as a tourist in Newfoundland I opted for a local Quidi Vidi beer which was - fine I guess; I'm no connoisseur. Drink prices were refreshingly low. I ordered the Fish & Chips: fried cod, fries, and coleslaw. The fish was ok but I doubt it was "fresh off the boat." Batter was crunchy and just thick enough but pretty oily. The fries were also a bit oily but pretty good, hand cut and with their skins. Coleslaw was just ok; too wet from excess mayonnaise. The portions were decent: 2 pieces of fish and the right amount of fries, coleslaw more than usually provided. Rereading the menu I saw that you can add dressing for $2 or gravy for $2. I don't know what the dressing is for but the gravy is presumably for the fries, to make it into poutine. The menu is extensive and has the typical bar-food items: burgers, nachos, ribs, Tex-Mex, bowls, salads, steaks. Lots to try. Keep your expectations moderate and you won't be disappointed.
