She was so excited to get a hair wash, cut and blow dry with Maryam a few weeks ago. I am not someone that has personally invested in my own haircuts or root touchups. Our daughter inspired me to also have Maryam cut my hair. I chatted with Maryam the entire time. Needed a quick trim and was assisted by an older lady with short hair.. did not grab her name. I asked for a layered trim with curtain bangs and unfortunately left with an uneven haircut. The worst part is she didn't even blow dry my hair. I asked for her to blow dry it but I think she understood blow out and told me it was an additional $55. I declined. So, I left without knowing what my hair actually looked like, I left with wet hair, and hours later I found out the layers were not even. read more

Everything about this place. It was warm inside even though it was cool outside. Older lady didn't catch her name asked me to sit in a chair with other people's hair all around it. The haircut cape smelled funny and given all this, I still gave her and this place a chance. She didn't moisten my hair to get the full length of it and I have wavy hair. I've gone to other Fantastic Sam's locations where they legit washed my hair first before cutting!! Turns out this lady gave me an UNEVEN haircut. I pointed it out several times and she just kept pulling on the ends to show it was even. When I continued to complain, she tried to cut the hair over my phone and purse !!! NEVER going back. I called Fantastic Sam's salon at 2461 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, CA, on 05/05/2025 at 10:45 to ask if I could get an adjustment on my haircut couple days after I visited the salon. A woman with an accent, who answered the phone was extremely rude, yelled at me and told me that I was "talking nonsense". She informed me that there is no owner, or manager in charge whom I could talk to and that I had to come in to talk to her, even though she was not my stylist. When I asked her name, she refused to give it to me, although she asked that I give her my name. I asked what the saloon's policy was on adjusting hair cuts, however she refused to answer and told me to come to the salon in person to ask about their customer service policy. I wanted to find a hair salon that gave me exactly what I asked for. I stumbled upon this place and after reading some positive reviews, decided to check it out. I was attended by Bertha, who was so kind. She talked me through what she was doing and made sure my haircut was the length I wanted. I told her I wanted my hair right at my shoulders and she double checked with me to make sure I liked the length. I was in and out of here in 30 minutes. The 5-star review is for my favorite colorist, Yaya, who always provides an amazing service!!! She's friendly, takes her time to do a wonderful color job and is careful with the shampooing process, a process that most colorists and stylists do poorly (i.e. water in the ears, water splashed all over my face or running down my back, gobs of color left in my ears or on my scalp, etc.). The haircut itself was great. They definitely over charge though. My haircut was $55, for very straight, not finicky hair, which I thought was perfectly acceptable. They kept insisting to blow dry my hair because "that's how you see the haircut " I told them I didn't really need that because my hair was already dry, but I went along with it. They ended up charging me $45 for a very simple blow dry. my entire haircut cost $100... I can go to a professional salon for the same price. although the cut itself was great, I will not be coming back because of the upselling on pricing, even when the customer said it was fine. I last visited Maryam on Thursday September 16th, my Birthday. Maryam is very talented. I have been going to her since she opened, at least 20 yrs. She is an expert in coloring, and cutting hair. She has always worked MIRACLES with my hair. If you are like me and like to change your hair color or hair style periodically she will do a beautiful job. I won't go into detail about what happened the last time I went in because honestly i still dont understand it. After so many years it saddens me that you wouldn't have just talked to me. Worst haircut ever! And terrible service, didn't honor the coupon I had that states "complimentary wash", said it was the first time they've seen it. Had to ask her to even out the sides of the head 3 times, and requested a trim on the top of my head, because I've been growing it out and like to comb it back, but she just kept chopping. Nothing is even, long patches on the back of my head when it was cut with a #2 guard. I asked to trim the ends on the top of my head to let it continue growing, with a 2 on the sides and back, blended into the top. Only thing she got right was the #2 guard. Looks like I'm starting the growth over again and getting it cleaned up somewhere else. When I asked why they wouldn't honor the wash on the coupon, she grabbed her purse and left to go to the pharmacy. She couldn't wait to get out of the salon. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there the second I walked in the door. Not sure if she was having a bad day, but if she was, she shouldn't be cutting hair. It only reflects on the final product. I've had great cuts at other locations, but I will never be coming back here. read more

This is a wonderful fantastic sams! My usual hair lady retired from Chinatown so I was searching for one close to home in west la driving around. Wasn't really looking for a franchise place - I've used Supercuts and Sams a long time ago but this one had high points. Walked in and the owner is so friendly, down to earth and so was the other gals in there. If you don't come for haircut, come for Scotty the dog! Anyways the prices are posted when you walk in, all haircuts it says includes shampoo. Blow dry is extra But so worth it Very nice people, I surely did not want someone who didn't like their job cutting my hair but she made me look human again! Berta and Francis were fantastic. We got one men's basic cut with a fade, $25, and one women's basic cut (several inches off, no layers) $35. They don't accept the Fantastic Sam's coupons but honestly, we loved our experience here and will be back. Well worth the fair price for basic cuts. Francis took good care to make sure my partner had a clean cut. I sat beside him and saw the care with which she took to make sure he didn't bleed but also was even and neat. She made sure we were happy with the length before cutting shorter. She also was calm and focused as she worked which was very nice for both of us, as we don't really enjoy talking during our haircuts. When we asked to make my partner's side cut more even or top portion shorter, she didn't have an attitude and just efficiently went ahead and made the requested edits. Wonderful cut, thanks Francis! Berta took care of my haircut and was very quiet but sweet- she was also happy to focus on cutting but also made sure that I was happy with the length. She started with one side and told me I could decide after I see it if I wanted it shorter. I felt embarrassed asking for shorter despite her kindly letting me know in advance I could, but she read my body language and hesitation when I saw the first cut length and kindly reassured me that we could definitely cut shorter. Such a great manner, thank you Berta! My cut looks even and straight, and she made sure to cut my bangs and fade them just how I like them. My partner and I are very happy that we found our hairdresser place in LA! The hairdressers here are experienced and kind, and they didn't make my partner bleed by rushing like the Fantastic Sam's San Vincente location. Highly recommend. read more

I called in ahead of time to get a price quote for a slight trim and was told it was $35, however once I arrived I was told that it would be $65 instead because my hair is "more difficult" and "it takes 3x as much work". I'm an african American to add some context. and they told me I needed to wash and blow dry my hair (that was just washed and blow dried no less than 10 minutes before my arrival) and hot iron it afterwards to ensure an even cut. Which tells me that 1. they don't know how to do black hair and 2. they're lying because I had a trim there almost a year to the day and there was no need to hot iron my hair at all. Overall I'm disappointed by their negative attitude towards me and my hair, and the fact that had I been of another race the price would not have nearly doubled. I would not recommend them although they have seemingly cheap prices it isn't without additional cost whether that be monetarily or discrimitatory. read more

These are very dishonourable people. Please save yourself the hassle. They charged me WAY over the usual costs ($180) and then denied it ever happened even when I showed them snaps of my credit card bill. But when the credit card company contacted them, they said they that is the amount that was agreed. This is so deceitful and wasted lots of my time. AVOID these people at your own costs. I have no reason to make this up. I live most of my time in the UK but this deeply unpleasant experience makes me feel you have to read reviews carefully-- you can see here that they do not have great customer attention or reliability. Stylists here are nice but don't know what they're doing and they don't listen. They don't even wash your hair before cutting. Just spray down slightly (not even saturating the hair) and cut which makes for an uneven haircut. I did see another woman getting her hair washed before her cut so I don't know why they do that for some clients and not others. Asked Miriam to cut 1.5in and she cuts at least 4 (??????). I could feel her cutting more but by that point it was too late. To make matters worse, she cut into my hair in some bizarre way (attempting to make layers I am assuming... but they're awful and choppy) because the hair is now growing back in a strange way - out instead of down. This has never happened to me in all my years getting haircuts at many different places.... and I've gotten my hair cut at high end places and literal beauty schools in before. I truly think those novice people at beauty schools getting trained have more experience than she does. My hair after this "haircut" doesn't look good after air drying or by styling. I mostly just pull it back because it looks choppy and sloppy. I am not at all happy with my haircut. :( Do not recommend this place whatsoever. I would rather cut my hair at home - and would probably get a better result. Avoid at all costs. read more
