I've been holding off on writing this review because I feel awful giving a mediocre rating when the…read moreperson providing the services was a true sweetheart. Very talkative, nice, personable. For THAT I would have returned. However...many things about my experience were just unprofessional and I don't have time to mess around with it every time I want my hair done, so unfortunately, I won't ever return. I had a Groupon. While waiting for my stylist, another stylist told me the groupon was created because my stylist needed to practice doing women's hair again since she had worked at a barber shop for years. Even if this is the reason, I don't like knowing that I'm "practice". My highlights were shocking and took me some time to get used to. I did have to have a friend cut stray hairs because the cut wasn't even...but that's minor. All in all, my hair turned out lovely and as time went on, I began to really love it. What really upset me? It's not good when the stylist says "oops I may have gotten some on your clothes". At the time I brushed it off and hoped she hadn't. Two of my favorite shirts that I wore that day (cami and cardigan) have bleach spots on them. One of the shirts can be dyed but the other can not. :( There were other things about the experience that were unprofessional but I was OK with them at the time. Kind of unforeseen events and, as I said, the stylist was so sweet. Maybe I just had a weird experience. The salon itself was adorable and all the stylists are independent and rent their booths.

She's a curly girl herself and is very personable and knowledgeable about curls. She educates you on curly hair, explains the techniques she uses & how to take care of your curls at home, and tries different curl products herself to make recommendations and share with you what would work for your hair but doesn't push any particular product or service. In the curls class she offers, she goes into more detail about the curl world, has a client demonstration where you can see the techniques in action, answers any questions you have, and sends you home with a few free samples. I enjoyed having that opportunity, so I highly recommend taking the class when it's available. She recently moved to a new location, and the new salon is more spacious, comfortable, and welcoming, not intimidating at all like some salons can be. She is also very responsive to emails, messages, and texts, which I appreciate when you have an emergency or need to reschedule or just have a quick question. I've been getting curly-cuts since 2014, so I highly recommend Laurie Cain and her skills as a curl specialist.
