This small shop on Lygon Street specialises in the sales and service of computer hardware. I believe it has been here for several years now, but I've only recently had reason to check it out.
My man discovered one of his external hard drives was acting up and he wasn't able to access his files. I had some free time so I offered to take the hard drive to Fang's. I'm not a tech-y person in the slightest and therefore have no real interest in computer shops, and so I couldn't make head nor tail of all the stuff I saw laying about the shop. It didn't look terribly organised in there, but then maybe that's because I just didn't understand what all those wires, cables, and grey/white/beige machines were for. I'm sure the stuff in there and the way it was all arranged makes perfect sense to Mr Fang.
Mr Fang (not his real name I don't think, but what a cool name) was obviously very competent. I explained the issue we were having with the hard drive, he quickly explained what the problems could be and what solutions might work. He also told me how much each solution would cost which was really helpful in making a decision on what to do next.
A week later we got a call from Mr Fang letting us know that the hard drive was ok and we could pick it up. I think it ended up costing about $100, which I guess is the going rate for this type of computer service. We were just happy to get the hard drive back with all files (music files, would have been a tragedy to lose) accessible. read more
