Just as the saying goes regarding NYC pizza tasting the way it does because of the water, I believe the same goes for ALL pizza in different parts of the world. As such, we have developed this weird fixation on trying pizza from different cities in the world to assess the dough and, in general, to get a sense of the local take on the pizza development process. Pizza Felix was a buzzy enough candidate in CDMX for this experiment. Plus, it served as a break from the constant onslaught of heavy Mexican food, haha.
First off, the natural, outdoor dining area was such a vibe. I stress a visit after the sun goes down just to savor the moody, low-lit atmosphere brought to life playfully by the colorful lighting strewn carefully in the greenery above.
Now, onto the pizza! Felix co-opts a Neapolitan-style pizza. We ordered the Ricotta Fonduta (295 MXN; ricotta, mozzarella, pecorino, caramelized onions, and parsley.). The dough was of a neutral quality and thin crusted to a point; toppings were fresh and bursting with flavor. Also ordered were the Meatballs for 275 MXN. These were rather bland, dry and a bit cold and were what really soured the experience because they were border-line disgusting. On that note, stick to the pizza and you'll be golden!
Somehow, it was not busy when we arrived just after 7pm on a Thursday, but it really picked up at 8pm. Music also increased in volume and drinks were pouring with large groups gathering, tourists and locals alike. Pizza Felix is quite the established destination in the city and one you would not have regrets over visiting, even while in Mexico.
