I walked into Hometown Collectibles in Emerald Square Mall. As I walked into the store I greeted the guy working behind the he said hi and I proceeded to look through the store. About 10 minutes later an older man (who I discovered later was one of the owners) walks in and starts to loudly berate the counter worker about a person wandering around the store (me) and he wasn't watching me well enough. I have been collecting comics for many years and in the back of the store I noticed a huge stock of comic books, but they are separated from the customers by display counters so there is no way for me to look through or purchase any of them. The owner came over to me pretty much to see what I was doing in his store and I asked about how he sells the comics. He told me a story about how he sold some comics at a low price and that purchaser's friend came in to also buy comics and "bragged" about getting a good deal. The owner does not sell out of the store anymore because he doesn't think he can get every penny he can and will only sell graded books online. I highly suggest you stay clear of this place. The owner does not care about making happy customers only about how much money he can get out of you. The prices are unrealistically high, the greed factor is very strong with this establishment. The owner will not even sell to you unless he is confident he has gotten your very last dollar. The owner treats both his employees and customers with a great deal of contempt.

As the fuel was pumping, I went to grab the station squeegee (a few feet away) and took 2 steps. As I walked back to the car, the cashier turned off my pump. I thought it was a pump error so I repeated the steps and as the fuel is again pumping, I grabbed the squeegee next to the car and took a step toward the windshield. Again, the cashier stopped my pump as I was just next to the driver side door. I went inside and asked why she was stopping my pump. She said I had to be actively operating the pump as per fire code and it was listed on the pump station. This is clearly incorrect and I was severely annoyed but it was also clear that the cashier would never change her mind so discussing the matter was a waste of time. There were customers that sat in their car as the pumps operated but apparently I couldn't clean my windshield even though I had visibility on the pump and could activate the shutoff switch just as quickly as if I were manually holding down the dispenser handle. And of course, nothing in MA's fire code prevents a customer from needing to actively hold the pump or stand next to it. So I won't be returning here again. https://www.mass.gov/doc/527-cmr-100-massachusetts-comprehensive-fire-safety-code/download

Savers is located next to Michaels and PetSmart. There is a big parking lot with plenty of spots. Savers is committed to giving reusable items a second chance at life while helping save millions of pounds of clothing and household goods from landfills every year. Each time items are donated to the store's local nonprofit partner, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island, at Savers, Savers pay them for items which provides revenue to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island fund important programs in the community. I had some clothes for donation. I walked up to the store front and I saw a bin for donations. It was stuffed with bags of items. I dropped off my items in the bin, but there is also a drive up section for you to drop off your items. You don't even need to turn off your ignition. Drop off is quick and easy either way.

Unlike the Providence savers, entering and exiting the parking lot and/or donation space doesn't require placing your life at risk. The inventory here is consistently good, and turns over pretty quickly (although I'm beginning to see a bit of lower quality Shein merchandise on the racks. Regrettably, the corporate decision to remove all of the dressing rooms likely means that I'll be forced to shop here twice for each visit, the first time to buy my new-to-me pants and a second time to exchange some them for another pair that also may not fit. This is extremely frustrating, especially since the removal of the dressing rooms didn't change the no refund policy. Still, you can't beat savers.

My friend and I went on a weekday night, about 2 hours before closing so it was pretty quiet. I initially thought the bookstore was only on the first floor of the building but turns out it's a multi-story experience. There is a parking lot at the back where I parked and I was able to enter through the back door (not sure if this is the main entrance). On the first floor, they have some books, bathrooms, a check out desk, nick nacks (hats, stationery, puzzles, etc.), and most importantly, a coffee shop. The coffee shop was closing up around the time we got there so plan accordingly and do some research on their hours. as they are not the same as the bookstore. The books are clearly labeled by genre. After taking a stroll, we decided to check out the second floor which was supposed to have a little market, a stage where they host events, and some very comfortable couches along with tables and chairs. I mostly came to see if a book spoke to me, but also to get some reading in from the book I brought along with me. The lighting is good, although I sometimes prefer to have a dimmer setting for a cozier feel. We spent about 1.25 hours here, but we could have easily spent a longer time if it weren't so close to closing.

Great little bookstore that has great events. Always a cool place to visit when we're in town.read more
