Two years ago I tore a ligament in my low left back and I haven't felt the same since. The injury healed after lots of physical therapy, but recently, after a seemingly normal yoga class, I was unable to sit, stand, or walk for any period of time, let alone bend, do yoga, and run per my usual MO. I hate going to the doctor because every time I do, he doesn't solve any of my health issues; he just wants to medicate me till my body is too numb to feel the pain it's in. So I suffered for about a month till I couldn't handle it anymore, then I decided to find a chiropractor.
An acquaintance recommended Family Chiropractic to me. It was the best recommendation anyone has ever given me besides "Double Team" co-starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dennis Rodman. Dr. John and Dr. Jessica own this practice, which focuses on making your body feel better through alignment and healthful eating and exercise practices, not medication or other temporary health "fixes."
Dr. John began with an examination to determine exactly what was bothering me; my frequent migraines and sinus problems also came up, so he promised to help fix these issues, too. I've never been to a chiropractor before so my first visit was scary--but Dr. John assured me that he hasn't snapped someone's neck yet. He snapped me back into place and instantly my neck was less tense, my low back less irritated and painful. You can tell he is a doctor who loves what he does and who truly wants to make you feel better. He is also very encouraging, focusing on the progress that you're making and the ways in which your body is healing, rather than all the problems you have and how they are limiting you. (I have not yet seen Dr. Jessica, but she is a sweet woman who, I'm sure, shares her husband's enthusiasm for the practice and dedication to their clients.)
Moreover, he gave me advice as to what I should eat and do physically to maintain the balance that I gained during my visits, as well as to avoid migraines in the future. I have to say I feel less stressed, much less back pain, and my face doesn't hurt anymore (my sinuses used to be constantly sore and tender from being broken a few years ago). If you want to see a chiropractor but doubt the benefits, or are afraid to have your body twisted and cracked till you feel like you're going to snap in half, go to Family Chiropractic. I guarantee you'll feel comfortable and won't regret the visit. Dr. John and Dr. Jessica do not hold traditional hours, making it easy for clients to fit visits into their schedules. (I hear you may also be able to just walk in if you need a quick adjustment...)
If you're still unsure, go to one of their information sessions. Every other Wednesday evening at 6:15PM, Dr. John and Dr. Jessica will be hosting talks with question-and-answer sessions, in which you can learn more about the chiropractic practice and its benefits, as well as ask any questions you might have.
Plus they have a super cute dog and go all-out when decorating their office for the holidays. (It was awesome for Halloween.) read more
