Well, I am always honest in my reviews. Unfortunately, I have to admit I am not a big fan of the…read morepractice as a whole. Most of the front desk people are rude and act like patients are an interruption of their work rather than the reason for it. Some other staff aren't much better. Most of the time at other offices/practices (such as specialists) I, as a patient, I feel like a number when there rather than a person... a person who really matters to the doctor; perhaps better said, I feel like my overall health and my healthcare concerns really matter to Dr. Hamilton-Brandon. Dr. Hamilton-Brandon is compassionate, caring, kind, and very smart with treatment(s) and her practice of medicine is the best healthcare I have ever had. Unfortunately, I can't say much positive about the practice as a whole, but I certainly do think the best assets are the physicians, and for me, Dr. Hamilton-Brandon is at the top of that list. I have also seen another physician a few times at Northeast when my physician has been out of town. I also was provided excellent care and treatment. Sometimes it's the little things that make the a difference. When I saw the other provider while Dr. Hamilton-Brandon was away, She found time to call and check on me to see how my injury was since she wasn't there when I needed treatment. Forrest Gump said "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get." Unfortunately the same can be said for the medical office assistants/nurses and other non-provider staff there...I call it "nursing roulette." Lately, I never know who is going to call me back and take me to the examination room, but I know the care from my provider will always be excellent. Some people complain about wait times at a doctor's offices; however, these are some of the same people who will demand to be seen [worked in] on a day when they are sick! I wonder how a doctor could be running behind schedule. I am amazed that people willingly and without complaint stand in line for hours to get the latest iPhone, iPad, or other similar gadgets. People will stand in line for a new movie on the night it premieres, or to get a great seat at a concert. In my opinion, good quality healthcare from a caring, compassionate provider is worth the wait. To be honest, it's sad to say, but there are very few doctors like Dr. Hamilton-Brandon left. My insurance company sometimes seems to have more power than my physician. I have read articles that report hospital employed physicians seem to be under seemingly impossible goals (aka: quotas) to get patients in and out the door spending a disproportionate amount of time on minutia which saddens me. I read an article a while back that discussed many hospital-employed physicians have or very little (if any) input to who is on their team. A physicians input should be a deciding factor when choosing a "right hand" person such as a nurse or medical office assistant. I couldn't imagine having my assistant or secretary chosen for me. [Disclaimer: I am not aware if this is the case with Catawba Valley Medical Center]. To summarize, If you have a physician like Dr. Hamilton-Brandon I would encourage you at some point in your next visit to let him/her know just how much you appreciate them. If you don't have a provider like mine, get an appointment with her or find a primary care physician like her (which, in my opinion, will require a great deal of prayer or a great deal of luck, likely both) before it's too late. I Patient-centered focused care and bedside manner is quickly being devoured by the incestuous beasts of insurance companies share prices and hospital's bottom line. This is making the new face healthcare "profit-centered" rather than "patient-centered".

I had a pre-surgery visit in 2013 and when I was leaving the office - they all but forced me to schedule a follow up a YEAR LATER. I even told them I did not want to schedule anything that far in advance but they put it down anyway. A year later - I get a bill for $50 for a NO SHOW visit. They said they left me a message but when you are out of town it is hard to get messages. I asked why they did not call my cell phone since they have it on record but they just said we left you a message. I see why they force you to do a follow up now. I switched doctors for I will not be a part of their scam and I will never pay the $50.00. I highly recommend going to any other doctor in the area.

The receptionist didn't know what hospitals the group was affiliated with and then I spoke with the supervisor, Tammy, and she was extremely rude. I tried to explain that I knew my insurance would not cover the visit and that I would pay out of pocket for it and she argued with me. I have never had a physicians office to refuse to see me because I was willing to pay for it after insurance denied it! But to make matters worse she proceeded to tell me I had made an appointment before and that it was cancelled because I refused too get my prior records which is totally not true. I cancelled because they called me 5 times to get my new insurance information and I didn't have the new card yet. Basically the girl who called falsified a note in their system to cover her own tracks. Tammy was not even open to the fact that the note may not be true. She stated " the note was there in writing so she knew that is what happened". All I can say is the physicians may be great but the office staff would keep me from going. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!
