Organic deals

Fairway Market is a 6 min walk from my place so - naturally - it is my local grocery store. I pop in there for my weekly groceries. Pros: they have awesome sale prices on many things I buy regularly: this week Silver Hills bread was $3 a loaf (woo!) and navel oranges were $0.99 a pound. I wanted to try Daiya faux dairy products and found the slices on sale from $5.99 down to $4.99. The honeydew and mini-watermelon were also on sale for $2.99 each. They frequently have sales on organic items too - a big win for me. Cons: organic produce can be really expensive. $3.49 for one bunch of kale or $2.99 per lb of tomatoes is hard to sustain on a pauper's budget. While they have a fair bit of organic items, I would like to see a dedicated isle as it can be hard to find stuff sometimes. Overall, quite pleased with this as my local grocery store.

Eric Akis's hot and sour soup made of fresh ingredients from Fairway Market. A picture's worth a thousand words.

Breathe T's review was honest and factual. Mouse droppings and chewed packages of food is not something to take lightly. I appreciate it.

Terrible Chinese Food from the deli. Returned all items and was only given a 30% refund. Very disappointing.

Decent prices, good selection. The produce section is great but the butcher selections are inconsistent.

First time to this store or chain, but as it was recommended place to shop (by my friend who has…read morechecked out several shopping options & others I'm cat sitting for), I figured why not check it out. i just needed a few basics for finishing up my supper plans after all. I was happy with the amount of selection throughout the store. There's lots of premade/quick to add to meal options in the first aisle as you walk by the sandwich prep area. As I did arrive within the last hour they were open, I didn't do a full exploring kind of shop. I had a mission & didn't want to overstay. However, what I did notice is that things seem well stocked, with recognizable labels for both conventional & organic items. I found what I wanted & a bit more (hurray for eggnog still being available after New Year's Day!). At the till, I left thinking prices seemed about the same as the other 2 market/grocery stores I've stopped at. This one was just much more manageable for me to shop. I really enjoyed the fact that it is small enough that I'm not using all my energy to reach the dairy/fridge aisle. I didn't see any aisle description signs but then again, as this is a smaller store there isn't a giant long section & you can see things a lot easier from either end. Store seemed clean & accessibility wise was decent for width of aisles, entrance/exit. The line-up area/ access space around the tills would be easy to navigate for any mobility aid. Important to note, there's minimal street parking available. Definitely one can describe this market as a neighbourhood market & best to walk there, bike, bus or be dropped off. I also have to note it was a nice surprise to see the person stocking the store was able to help manage the line growing at check out. That's rarely the case in bigger stores to have a till open up. The only reason I'll give a 4 star is that the person stocking throughout the store passed me several times while I was shopping. Yet, never asked if I needed help or if there was anything in particular I'm looking for. I found things well enough by myself but that kind of struck me as odd. It was also weird for what seemed to be a community store, not to have a welcoming vibe from him or any of the staff throughout my shopping time/check-out. Overall, decent place to grab groceries or find some prepared items to make your meal prep easier.

They have grab-and-go sandwiches as well as custom deli-made sandwiches. I chose grab-and-go mainly because I was tired and was not eager to follow their multi-step deli ordering process.

However, on a recent visit a male staff from Produce repeatedly reached over me and bumped into my scooter as he fawned over an ablebodied customer in line. He acted as if I were an object. No "Excuse me," nothing. When I spoke up, he mansplained how he has the right to do this and, "I'm sorry YOU feel THAT way." I told him he was physically hurting me, besides being rude. He continued to abuse me. The Human Rights Tribunal confirmed I have grounds for a disability discrimination case. An assistive device is legally part of a disabled person's body. What this employee did was assault. As well, the payment terminals have been moved so they are too high for disabled people to reach from wheelchairs. Thanks, but I can pay more reasonable prices for organics at regular grocery stores, and get treated as if I am human. As I said, I went to WF mainly for customer service. Not to have my human rights violated.

Whole Paycheck, as it used to be called, is not that bad regarding pricing, and they often have…read moredeals, so I no longer call it by that name. However in the sandwich department, they have really fallen down recently. I used to buy lunch there often but stopped when their selection became smaller and much worse. Today I bought two sandwiches, both suffered from soggy bread and insufficient ingredients. One was an egg sandwich with barely a smear of egg, whereas not that long ago the egg used to burst out of the bread. No butter, no margarine, no nothing. WTF? And to make matters worse, wilty old lettuce. This is a disaster, a sandwich disaster. Cheaping out on egg? Egg is not expensive. Why? Cheaping out on hummus? Why? Hummus is also cheap to buy and cheaper to make. The other sandwich was made with hummus or was supposed to be. It was soggy, with the smallest amount of hummus possible. There were tomato slices but when pulled out they were old and wrinkly. I'm old and wrinkly too but don't want that added to my sandwich. So Whole Foods, if you are listening, I'm not buying sandwiches from you again and if you're wondering where your customers are going, try building a better one, like you used to do. ,
