I had some time before I needed to be to the airport, so I visited the White Plains Public Library on Martine Ave. I found a metered street spot nearby. This library is pretty large with multiple floors and was well-lit and quiet when I visited on a Saturday morning. I loved the big new book section right at the front of the main level, especially the full shelf of new cookbooks (one of my favorite genres)! They had some other really great displays, including one celebrating Jane Austen's 250th birthday and some BookTok books. I saw a seed library, teen area, even an attached cafe. I'm really glad I got to visit this library!

Long story short, we thought we found the right "contractor" right in our own neighborhood. Turned out, we put a $1000 deposit towards a $2200 driveway demolition job which never happened. Only thing he did do, was tear up the lip at the end of the driveway as a means to 'keep us quiet' and buy himself some time while simultaneously doing another job not far from where we live. The phony 'contractor' led us to believe he would be at our house 'tomorrow' to break ground. But that never happened. The back and forth between this quack and my husband went on too many times to count. I lost patience and hubs tried to keep his cool. But we also wanted our $1000 for a job he was hired to do which never took place. Instead, he used our money to pay for electrical tools to use for his other job. After that, there was some shady business from the halfwit you'd only see on tv. We eventually got $500 out of the $1000 we initially paid him. And that just set hubs off. ************************************************ Hubs took matters into his own hands and filed a Westchester Consumer Protection complaint against that quack with ALL our info right on this website. Alfonso (don't recall last name) was assigned to our case and wanted basic timeline information to get a thorough picture of what went down in order to work up a case. With Alfonso's help, multiple charges were brought against that so-called "contractor" and get back the remainder of what was due to us. Alfonso played a key role in all this and resolved our issue. Most importantly, he put a stop on that phony as hell 'contractor'. So thank you Westchester County Consumer Protection for being what you are AND going as far as you did in this matter. Plus your expertise and speediness- even during this pandemic, is impressive.

There were two associates--one woman wearing a mask who was helping multiple people, and another with glasses who was just talking until she finally assisted the gentleman before me. When I reached the front of the line, the woman with glasses told me her computer wasn't working correctly, and her label printer wasn't functioning, so she couldn't help me. I asked if the second associate could assist, as she had just printed 5-10 labels for the woman in front of me. Before I could even approach her for help, she loudly declared, "That's it, I ain't doing anymore labels!" I was shocked by how rude she was, making me feel like I had done something wrong just by coming in with a QR code. Instead of trying to help, she refused to assist, leaving me with no choice but to walk out without mailing my package. I expressed to both associates how incredibly rude they were and that I didn't deserve to be treated that way. There was a line of over eight people behind me, and I had already waited with about eight people in front of me. I understand that USPS employees may not always be happy with their jobs, but a little decency is expected when someone is kind and simply asking for help--especially when it's your job to print labels as part of the service. I do not recommend this location, and I hope management addresses this issue with their team. This is not how a community USPS should operate.

Multiple employment counselors were assigned to my case, yet not a single one actually performed their basic job duties. Despite explicit, in-person agreements to analyze and review my resume for workforce readiness, my resume was entirely ignored. This level of administrative laziness is unacceptable; navigating unemployment is a highly stressful experience that requires proactive guidance, not staff members who refuse to perform basic procedural tasks. This agency requires immediate state intervention, a comprehensive performance audit, and a complete restructuring of its personnel. The current staff should be removed and replaced with dedicated, competent professionals who actually care about workforce development and making a difference in the lives of the unemployed. Until the state holds this facility accountable for its severe lack of productivity, the White Plains Career Center will remain a broken, useless resource that actively fails the community it is meant to serve.
