We took my son to Fairman's this week to pick out a skateboard for his 6th birthday. I wasn't sure what to expect given I have zero knowledge of skateboarding, so I was blown away with the experience - Mike, who I later found out was also the owner, patiently educated all of us and helped our son build a skateboard! It only took about 20-30 minutes to select the parts and build, and it ended up being an experience for our son as opposed to just picking out a gift. The shop is organized with board options, but also clothing, accessories, shoes, etc and cool artwork. The highlight though was Mike - he was kind, helpful, spoke directly to our son through the process, and answered all of our silly questions. The shop offers lessons. And we felt the pricing to be very fair. read more

Brian P, You are talking about an abandoned paper mill (key word = abandoned). I couldn't think of a better place to skate. Skateboarding is not little league. You have clearly missed the point of skateboarding and demonstrated that it is not for you. Please respect the skateboard community by refraining from leaving comments about our shops and/or parks. If you ask me they are not taking the video down because they care about the skateboard community more than losers like you that complain about things that don't concern them. I applaud them for ignoring you and keeping the video up. They are providing these kids with a forum to show off their sport. This is a West Chester area staple. I remember going here as a teenager... longer ago than I want to think possible. I stopped in again recently, and found that Fairmans had grown up: the counters and walls are all very responsible and adult, which makes it friendly for Dad and Mom to spend money for little Jimmy. And, spend you will. (yes, I like to ignore the rules of grammar while writing reviews. Please gimme a break.) As the aforementioned parent, I found the prices and lack of selection an issue that is easily fixable. I don't understand why they'd take space away from the clothes, etc, to use it for surfboards. A surf shop in Dub-C? Really? Still, I have to admit that the staff was quite helpful, and I went home and put on the shirt I bought at Fairmans when I was 16 years old. My wife cannot understand why I would have it 2 decades later - yes, it is 20 years old. I am trying to explain to her that it is the mystery of men. read more

Fairman's is the only skate shop I trust! They've got everything you need from Skateboards, longboards, Surf/Snowboard gear and apparel. I've been going to this shop since 2005 when Bam Margera's MTV show was still airing on MTV. I got my first board here, and the staff was super helfpful and funny explaining upkeep and safety, even talked me into buying a helmet! Prices can be a little expensive, but it comes with the territory. This is a West Chester staple in my opinion, a great place to check out even if you don't skate. read more

took my son in to Fairman's on Christmas Eve eve so he could pick out his long overdue board from me. The guy behind the counter could not have been any more helpful and professional. My son gave him his specs, I asked if it would stay within my rather modest budget, he put it all together and was able to hit my target almost exactly. The guy explained everything to me as to why it was good my son chose the size board he did etc, he did not speak to me like i was an idiot, rather he spoke to me as if he was incredibly enthused to just talk about the sport he loved so much and was happy to pass some basic info to someone who has no clue. I will encourage my son to use them when he needs upgrades or replacement parts, despite the fact that he lives primarily in Virginia, I am close enough that i can run to W. Chester to pick it up for him. read more

Great skate shop, this is my main skate shop to go. They have almost anything you want for a skateboard/longboard. They also sell helmets, clothing, and skate accessories. The staff is very helpful and they know what they are talking about. If you have no clue what you're talking about they will explain everything. Only thing I didn't like was I tried emailing them asking if i could order a board they didn't have in stock, and they never responded. Other than that Fairmen's is a great skate shop. Also they have a great skateboarding camp and they teach you how to skate like a pro. read more

I have shopped here for my son numerous times over the years and have had no problems with the service and products they offer. However, I am disappointed that fairmans only cares about profit and making money. I follow fairmans on instagram and saw they posted a video of illegal trespass and dangerous skating in the dilapidated downingtown paper mill two days ago. A teenager fell through one of the holes in the paper mill one week ago and was seriously injured. Not only is this disrespectful to the family, but it shows a lack of good judgment. Young kids emulate what they see from cool skateboarding sites like fairmans. What if kids go there to skate like the skaters in the video and get hurt? As a part of the west chester and downingtown communities, fairmans should realize their community obligation to promote safe skateboarding, and not reckless behavior. I even called and brought this to the attention to the manager and he assured me he would have it removed and it still hasn't been removed. I will make sure that I let my community know not to shop at fairmans since they promote reckless skateboarding to children all in the name of profit. read more

Will never shop here again." Promoting risky behavior...does this mean you don't allow your son to play sports because they could get hurt doing that just as easily? If you haven't noticed, skateboards are sold with a warning that skaters should skate to their ability. Is it the fault of Fairman's that the video they posted showed riders who were able while your son apparently isn't skilled enough? Have you written similar reviews for other skate shops or skateboard magazines that show "risky behavior"? This just sounds like someone who doesn't understand the culture of skateboarding, even though they let their child go to the same place. I'm sure if the kid hadn't gotten hurt this wouldn't even be an issue. read more
