This is your mom-and-pop liquor store. I come here because it is so close to my house that people might question my choice of residence might be associated with my drinking habits. The mom-and-pop are two Chinese immigrants from a South East Asian country (I think Malaysia) and like my mom in Connecticut (just CT not NYC, thank god!), when she sees an East Asian looking person, she wants to be friends with them. Since moms are all the same, the lady took my credit card and investigated my last name to figure out what my ethnicity was, she continued to asked for my background, what I do, my favorite ice cream flavor...
It's a small store, everything is jam packed in there. The organization is not the best (especially the wine section) but if you know what you are looking for, the pop can lead you to it and usually there are several options. Despite being small, the store has a lot of things and I am pretty sure you will get your needs met if you are not a connoisseur. There is also a big walk-in fridge at the end of the store that I did not know existed until last week a dude walked in to get beers. From my quick glance, I saw boxes of beers in there.
In sum, when I run low and when I miss seeing friendly Asian faces, I come here. read more
