I was lucky enough to rent an RV there for nearly 3 months. The location is 10 minutes from downtown Camp Verde and less than 20 minutes to shopping in Cottonwood. Just off I17, you are a less than an hour drive to Sedona, Flagstaff, or Prescott. Even closer to 'home' is Cliff's Casino and Montezuma's Castle, both just minutes away, Yet at home at night, the sky is black and the stars are out in force. Breathtaking! In nearby Cottonwood, there are some wonderful restaurants and even a 2nd nearby National Monument, Tuzigoot. Indeed, if you visit either Tuzigoot or Montezuma's Castle, you may see the second one the same day by showing your receipt. If you have the "America The Beautiful Pass," use it for free admission to both. If you do not, check out the pass if you are over 62, it's well worth the money. The owners are committed to making your stay both comfortable and enjoyable. The common rest rooms, showers, and laundry areas are bright and cheerful, as well as immaculate. There's even a small, honor system library that houses a decent variety of reading materials. If you need anything the owners, Sigrid and George are usually there daily. If not, they have many fine employees that are also permanent campers at the park, also very willing to answer your needs. It's a small oasis in the midst of the high desert. With gratitude from the Audubon Society, the park doubles as a bird sanctuary of sorts. There are tens of trees, homing both local and rare birds to the area. Hummingbirds abound, fed by the flowering landscape and feeders found throughout the park. A small tributary of the Verde River flows through the back of the park, if you bring your pets, be sure to check out the river while letting them roam in a clean, fenced area close to the river. Personally I found my rather brief stay there the most enjoyable lifestyle choice I've had in years. If an opportunity hadn't arose about 2 and a half hours away, I would have stayed for the foreseeable future

Multiple picnic benches under a metal corrugated roof. Several elevated barbecues for outdoor cooking. RV slots have potable, apparently filtered water that tastes good; electrical power is provided in both 30-amp and 50-amp options (two 30-amp and 2 50-amp circuit breakers). There are also a number of slots where people can park a car and pitch a tent on the sand and pea-gravel pad, contoured for rain to flow away from the tent site. There's a special area for unloading firearms with a tall berm behind to prevent negligent discharges from harming nearby ranchers and home owners. Well-maintained. Quiet in the evenings, and dark.

We decided to stay at this RV Park because of the decent reviews they receive. The "Resort"…read morereally didn't live up to our expectations. First I want to compliment the office staff. They are personable and very helpful. The park is a little older but the buildings like the office, bathrooms, and laundry room are well maintained and clean. The pool area and Community room look to be newer and also well maintained. There are quite a few full time residents at this "Resort". Some of them have a lot of junk around their spaces. Not something we cared to look at when we're on vacation. When we arrived at our space we noticed about 8 -10 ant mounds. A staff member came right away to take care of the situation. They weren't a problem for us at our site because they had put something down but throughout the "Resort" there were many ant mounds. One spot in particular was near one of the dog runs. You have to be mindful of where you're standing so not to get bitten. I did notice towards the end of our stay the ant mounds were back in our space. In all of our travels in our 5th Wheel, we have yet to see an ant issue like this. Another issue is the stickers throughout the "Resort". We had to be very careful as to where we walked our dogs. I would say that most walks we went on the dogs got a sticker or two in their paws and/or their fur. The space we picked was very long but narrow. For us it was a problem because we couldn't put our chairs out or set up our dog pen up right outside the door like we normally do because there was about 2 ft to do so. It was a bit inconvenient as far as we were concerned. One of the rules at the "Resort" is you are only allowed to stake anything down between the railroad ties that lines the space, because of the fiber optics etc. We noticed while walking around the grounds that there are many spaces just like the space we were in....long and narrow. They are perfect for one or two nights OR, if you're not planning to set anything up. If you don't care you can set up in front or in back of your rig. I highly recommend that if this is your first time making a reservation at this park that you speak with someone to make sure the space you're considering will work for your stay. One other thing. My husband and I went out for a few hours one day without our pups. We made sure that the air conditioning was on because the temperatures had been a bit warm. When we arrived back we noticed the power was off in the 5th Wheel. Which meant the air conditioner was off. They were doing some work right outside of our space. We weren't notified that they would be turning the power off. We love staying in that area because it's central to the places we like to visit. We will not be staying at Verde River RV Resort again.

RESCUED! Late…read moreafternoon on Sunday February 7th, we felt stranded... And then kept driving. I don't know what it is about this area - buuuuut, this lovely camp host was the ~only~ one to answer the phone, after calling nine others in the area, simply because they were on the way. Awash with relief, I thanked her profusely just for picking up the phone. She must have been surprised - I could hear the smile in her voice - she said "I always answer the phone." As it turned out, she was hosting in the RV Park, was ~already~ closed for the evening and had only one spot left, one! Yes, she'd save it for me. "Just call me as soon as you pull in - I'll meet you!" She was incredibly warm and welcoming, not put out at all to have met us after hours. You have no idea how grateful we were... after stewing over calling all the other places. We even had quite the disaster calling another place where we had stayed before... (read on - you can find it.) We were soooooooo tired from driving... The remaining spot was right up front, near the office and the shower, (which couldn't have been more perfect, since we got there in the dark) so we didn't have to hook up water. When we got up the next morning, we discovered it was landscaped and manicured beautifully, enormous spotless showers and paved. There were fabulous trees and picnic tables for all the sites. From reading the park map, I learned they're open year-round. We couldn't have custom ordered a nicer place! To have the host meet us after hours, essentially coming to our rescue, was nothing short of magnanimous. It's truly a thrill to share our adventure with others by posting. It's positively our privilege to have met her! We go through this area maybe once a year, and will certainly make this a regular visit. We can't wait to go back! Her sweet name was Geri!

Some rooms (ours was one) come with carports to protect your vehicle from the brutal Arizona sun. Although, it's not so brutal up here (we came in June and the temps definitely beat Phoenix temps). Each room has a lovely little patio area in front where you can enjoy some outdoor time with lovely views of pine trees. It was clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. Also, if you're up there in summer and can brave the summer temps, it was a nice walk (about 1.5 miles) to Whiskey Row where all the excitement lies. If you like fun, thoughtful decor, this is definitely your spot. I highly recommend staying here.

Yeah, there was a loss of communication on the ability to check in after hours (their office hours end at 5 pm on weekdays and 7 pm on weekends). I ended up staying at a nearby motel, the Sierra Inn, just down the street (see my review of that place). I did return the next day and I got a refund (all but the non-refundable $25). Kaylee was especially kind in helping me get my refund. I hope I get a chance to stay there on the next trip thru Prescott. NOTE - this motel has the shortest office hours of any that I've ever stayed at, but they do have digital keys for the rooms, so you can arrive after office hours and still get in. There was a glitch on the phone number help line, that I'm sure will be rectified promptly. You park in front of your room and the parking is a little tight, so don't bring your Giant 4x4 or RV. So why did I give a motel 5 stars without having stayed there? Well, mostly because of Kaylee at the front desk. She went above and beyond to help me get my money back, and if the rooms are as good as her assistance was, it's worth every star.
