BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS! Do I have your attention yet? If I could give 0 stars I would. My stay at the Fairfield Hotel was nothing short of a horror story from start to finish. Upon checking into my room, I discovered bedbugs. Shocked and disgusted, I immediately informed the desk attendant, who displayed a shocking lack of concern. Her solution was to offer me another room, as if moving me to a different room within the same potentially infested property was a satisfactory resolution. When I expressed my unwillingness to stay on the property due to health concerns, the attendant callously suggested canceling my reservation. Requesting to speak with the manager only added to my frustration, as I was informed that the manager was unavailable and I was unable to receive contact information for them. I would have to return at 7am to have any hope of speaking with them. Unwilling to risk my health and safety, I decided to gather my belongings and check out immediately, asking that the manager contact me the next day. Only after intervention by a Marriott VP did the manager bother to call, at which point they claimed that Ecolab (Ecolab offers water, hygiene and infection prevention solutions according to their website) had inspected the room and found no evidence of bedbugs, despite clear photographic and video evidence I had provided. To add insult to injury, when I questioned what type of insect could have been in the room if not bedbugs, I was met with dismissive responses claiming there were simply no bugs present. As a precaution, I had to spend several hours of my vacation time doing laundry to ensure that I didn't inadvertently carry any bugs home with me. In summary, my experience at Fairfield Hotel was beyond disappointing--it was appalling. The staff's indifference to a serious health hazard, their lack of transparency regarding the issue, and their refusal to take responsibility or offer a satisfactory resolution are completely unacceptable. I strongly advise against staying at this establishment and will be pursuing further action by contacting the health department and keeping my case open with Marriott executives. This experience has not only ruined my vacation but has also left me questioning the hygiene standards and customer care practices of Marriott-affiliated hotels.

I stayed here one night for business in the Moon Twp area. The views of the Ohio River from KY room were probably the best thing about the stay. I got there early to check in, as I usually do at many Marriott properties and it's never been a problem, unless they're fully booked, but the guy checking me in immediately told me "check in is at 3PM!" I explained that I knew this, but it's never been a problem, if there are rooms available. About this time a lady, very pleasant and friendly came up and told him to check me in. She looked at my account and then proceeded to do all the things he didn't do (acknowledge my loyalty, etc). Incidentally I had occasion to ask her for toothpaste the next day and she was extremely as professional, polite, and helpful! The room was moderately clean, yet in need of updating and refreshing. There were black, long hairs all over the ceiling in the bathroom and on one of the bedside tables. The wallpaper was peeling from the walls, there were patched cracks in the ceiling. It just needed to be refurbished! The outside of the building really needs to be repaired and repainted, it looks deserted. The bed was decent and comfy and I got a nice sleep. The TV and remote worked well, so did the WiFi. Overall, it wasn't a bad stay, but I'll stay closer to my meeting location on the next trip.

A solid place to stay on the river at Neville Island with plenty of rooms overlooking it & the bridge. Sometimes you'll hear traffic, but it's a low susurration & rather soothiing. Updated decor & clean. There is a firepit outside beside the river & is a wonderful place to unwind. They also have a small pool & fitness center, but I've never used those. They have a "convenience store" to purchase snacks & sundries. There is also a small business center where you can print directions etc... Breakfast is included and is a full breakfast (eggs, bacon, pastries, waffle-maker etc...) There is coffee & usually a fridge & microwave in the room. This location is not a far drive from anywhere in Pittsburgh & it's easy to get dahntahn or to Kennywood...!! It's also close to Old Economy Village, which if you're looking for some interesting history of an early "planned community" that's low key, this is the ticket. Note that there is only one restaurant (King's) which is not open late & not much else around so if you're hungry eat in the city if you're a late arrival. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

The front desk lady was wonderful. However, the hotel was dirty. The elevator was dirty. Then the hallway had not been vacuumed in while. I always check the bedding and look for signs of bedbugs in every hotel and I found filthy mattress cover, dirty wall with something dripping down it. So I did get another room and it was better but there was something on the wall by the headboard as well.

View from our room window! Don't worry about hearing car noise from the highway bridge - I listened closely and never heard any noise.

I stayed here one night because I thought the trendy Bloomfield neighborhood would provide a nice change-of-pace from the more established downtown area. I was also planning to drive to upstate New York and thought this would be a convenient location for a faster getaway. Well, a sudden winter snowstorm forced me to cancel the side trip to New York, and I ended up spending very little time exploring Bloomfield because I took a long nap in my room after a sleepless night in the previous hotel. Even though it was bordering on pointless to shift to this hotel, I still enjoyed the studio I reserved for $152. There was a comfortable king bed, a fully equipped kitchen, a corner sofa, and a 360-degree swivel flatscreen TV. It was a lot of amenities I didn't need, but hey, it was freezing cold, so the apartment set-up made it feel cozy. One other advantage was a sizable lot to park my rental SUV. Even though they offered a happy hour and continental breakfast, I skipped both. Instead I braved the cold and just strolled on Baum to find a decent greasy spoon for dinner and a quiet gay bar for a drink. Not a bad stay, and I'd consider a return to explore Bloomfield. The lobby area was really pretty and so much larger than it appears from outside. Free breakfast! The pool was nice and heated. We had it to ourselves both times we went in it during our stay. The parking is pricey. I absolutely hate paying for parking. I wish this came with the hotel stay as it was also already priced on the higher end. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. I would probably pick a day that didn't fall on a holiday weekend for a less expensive stay.

Here's our experience. 1) Check-In: One unique aspect of this hotel is that the check-in is on the top floor with a beautiful view of Pittsburgh. Take the elevator to the 10th floor and two check in stands are right when the elevator doors open. The entire check-in experience took about five minutes. The woman helping us was efficient, personable, and even gave us a walking map of the area. She also gave us two drink vouchers to use on house beer, wine, or a mocktail at the hotel bar. 2) Rooms: Our larger room was on the 4th floor with two queen sized beds. The room corridor was wide, making it look much larger. There are plenty of outlets everywhere, lights, a TV, a Keurig machine, a fridge, and more. The bathroom was spacious with a toilet room with a closing door inside, a large shower, and Le Labo shampoo, conditioner, and soap. The beds are semi comfy and come with lots of pillows. 3) Amenities: There's no pool, but there is a gym with machines and weights. There's also a small rooftop terrace with a view of the Cathedral of Learning, work areas, and more. There's valet parking and a cheaper parking garage not connected to the hotel across the street. One interesting aspect of the hotel is that it's on the site of the Syrian Mosque, a large music venue. A recording studio, guitar, etc. inside the hotel are all nods to the music venue. 4) Service: The staff were very friendly and helpful. After a day of exploring, our room had a nice card with chocolate, macarons, and raspberries, and nice water for us. My wife forgot her toothbrush and the front desk gave her a free one from behind the desk! 5) Neighborhood: It's next to a number of museums and monuments and the Cathedral of Learning, which is worth a tour to see their Nationality Rooms.

I was immediately blown away with the foyer! At check in, there is fruit infused water to quench your thirst. Make sure you keep your room key in hand because you will need it to operate the elevator (once in, hold it against the black box until light turns green and quickly select your floor). The hallways were incredible! And still had their old charm! I even picked up the old fashioned telephone and it rings the front desk! You can use it shall you need something ... if for some reason you cannot enter your room, just pick up the black phone in the hallway and they will come to you (this didn't happen to me, but just a tip if it does). I stayed in room 1470 and absolutely love my view of the gothic architecture of the Union Trust. I looked out my window a million times! The size of my room was huge! I could have done cartwheels all over the place! The WiFi is complimentary for guests. There's cable TV. Maybe other options too but I didn't have my tv on much to know. The water pressure deserves its own special shout out! Holy moly it was heaven! And the brand of washes they had was nice! Usually the conditioner isn't good enough in hotels for my hair but this was just fine! And there's a good blow dryer on the back of the door (I still used my own because I have a lot of hair and it's long BUT had I forgotten it, their hair dryer would have been just fine at 1875 watts. There's a tag on your door that you can hang if you'd like to skip housekeeping for a day and the hotel will donate a meal for doing so .. check out the tag for more info! There's also cards you can put on your bed if you want your bedding changed. I was never bothered in my room by housekeeping. I was never bothered by noise. I never experienced a phony phantom call to my room. (All things I've experienced at other places). You will get a free drink at checkout you can get a beer at the tap room or a coffee at Mellon Square (on site). It is not good for the speakeasy ... and yes, it's a real speakeasy that existed in the 1920s you could access thru tunnels under the city! So cool! On checkout day, the event I attended was going to start early and finish after checkout time. Since I was up late the night before, the front desk said I was welcome to bring my bags down now for bellhop to hold, but they also put me for a late checkout at 1pm so I could come down late the next day too. So partway thru the event just before 1pm I brought down my bags and they held them for the next 90 mins I was there. I parked across the street at the Mellon square parking garage ... Apple GPS marks the garage in the wrong place FYI ... it marks it about a block away but it is directly across the street from the hotel, with the entrance to it being on the cross street. I paid $44 to park there from Thursday around 5pm to Sunday around 3pm. Not bad. They do have valet parking at the hotel too but that is $55 per day I believe. Leaving was sad. I would have liked more time to enjoy this place. I would love to come back sometime! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Wonderful staff and incredible hotel!
