This museum is the personal collection of Rene & Veronica di Rosa. The Good: *Temporary exhibits rotate approximately every four months. *Complimentary umbrellas (more on that later) *A good portion of the exhibits are outdoors along their gorgeous property. *Shuttle if you don't want to or need assistance walking from building to building. *You really have to like weird shit because this place is full of it. Personally, I love it, but if you're more "serious" art person, then this probably won't be your jam. *Picnic tables on the grounds, as you're encouraged to bring food and drink to enjoy in their outdoor area. *Friendly staff The Meh: *General admission of $25 might be a touch high for an art museum. The Ugly: *Be wary when visiting during inclement weather,as there's a large part of this museum that's outdoors. So you'll probably miss out on some of it, but the free umbrellas (mentioned above) did come in handy. Conclusion: Fun art museum with some really cool pieces and doesn't take itself too seriously.

I'm not actually sure if I'd ever been to Suisun before Saturday, so naturally I wanted to explore a little. We followed signs to "Lawler House" and went in to see what it was. Lawler House Gallery had two rooms full of really wonderful art piecs. There were some paintings and photos, but mostly it was the most creative art pieces that captured my attention. A wire cat with a small canary sitting inside was cool, but a row of carved and painted gourds were the most amazing. I searched google when I was home and entertained myself for a while looking at "gourd art". The lady working the gallery was very friendly and informative. The goal of the house is to bring inspiration and education to the community, and she obviously was very passionate about this. She approached us and asked where we were from. She then went on to tell us about the artists (there are 30 of them in the gallery right now). She also said that the current art is part of a series called "Touching Wild, Touching Art". The proceeds of the sales will go to benefit the new Suisun Wildlife Rescue Center (like Lindsay Museum of the East Bay). A fundraising reception will be hosted at this gallery in September. As we left the house we walked through a courtyard with some welded sculptures. All of them were great. Tactile connections and the ability to interact with art is really cool. Inside it is an Art Gallery, and also a multipurpose activity/community space. Through the front door, which is located at the corner of 1st and E streets past some large art sculptures, is a book store of published art books, and to the left corner is a info/cashier counter and person. Past that opens up to a large multistory atrium area, filled with art, but also a couple of tables with 4-5 chairs each. In the hot Davis summers, this is a cool place to hang out, literally, as there is OPAC available for you (Other People's AC), and WiFi! Currently the artist featured on this floor is Mark Bullwinkle, an American artist with SF Bay Area roots and metal quirky sculpture installations, particularly in Emeryville and Berkeley, that he created with a blowtorch. Up the stairs or elevator to floor 2, there is a study/lounge that over looks the atrium below, with other artists' work in the nooks and crannies around the staircase and little rooms. The 3rd floor is a full art floor, with mostly ceramic sculptures from various artists. It is free to enter. I did an event here a year ago, a UC Davis student's birthday party with entertainment in the atrium space. And more recently I came here with 2 friends to chill in the OPAC and tables/chairs in the 1st floor Atrium before heading on to dinner on a lazy Sunday afternoon road trip.

There was also a bathroom on the second floor. There was classical music playing throughout the building. It was a nice departure from working in my hotel room and I enjoyed seeing some of the artwork and sculptures on display.

There is art in every section of the cottage, including the bathroom. I am inspired to show some of my work, as encouraged by Fro. For example, feast your eyes on the new-ish Shrem museum, right on the edge of campus. New to Davis? This museum is directly across the street from UCD's visitor and conference center on one side, and the campus concert hall (wine-named Mondavi Center). High-tail it over to the museum and keep your wallet in your pocket -- it's free. It's 30 minutes or so you won't mind giving up. A fun mix of modern art that is always changing, so i won't date my review here. At the very least, it's a beautiful space with some thought-provoking installations every time I'm in town. I believe there's some kind of rule that all the artists have some connection to UC Davis. Davis hates cars, so the adjoining parking lot is about $10, during the week only. Weekends? Cars galore, no charge. Inspiring!

I am writing this review as an artist with approximately 40 years of experience in painting and the…read morevisual arts. This was my first time participating in an exhibition at this gallery, as I had been considering becoming a member. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. Two weeks after the exhibition opened, I discovered that my artwork had been incorrectly labeled. Although I had clearly stated in my submission form that my work is "mixed media," it was presented as "watercolor." This is not a minor mistake--anyone with even basic knowledge of art can easily recognize that my work is not watercolor. Mislabeling directly affects how viewers perceive the artwork and can influence voting and audience feedback. I contacted the gallery by email to request a correction, but received no response. After repeated follow-ups over three consecutive days, I finally received a reply on the fourth day confirming that the label had been corrected. Such delays and lack of accountability are not acceptable in a professional environment. Throughout this experience, I felt that there was insufficient attention to professional conduct and respect for artists--especially emerging ones. I also sensed a difference in the way I was treated compared to others, which made me feel overlooked and unwelcome. In addition, when I inquired about the possibility of offering smaller works suitable for sale in the gift shop, my request was immediately dismissed without any review of my work. Only after I insisted did I send examples of my pieces, which I believe deserved proper consideration, yet my request was still not evaluated fairly. Due to this overall experience, I ultimately decided to withdraw my artwork from the exhibition. I did not want my work to continue being misrepresented or treated without proper respect. To make matters worse, the refund process for the $40 exhibition fee was handled carelessly. The gallery issued the check incorrectly three times, each time misspelling my last name. In the end, I had to write my name on a piece of paper to ensure the check was finally issued correctly. I also witnessed another artist whose ceramic work, valued at $1,000, was damaged while in the gallery's care. She was understandably upset, and this raised further concerns about how artworks are handled and stored. Overall, this gallery falls far short of the professional standards expected from an art institution. There appears to be unfair treatment of artists, with decisions seemingly influenced by personal relationships and favoritism, which is also quite evident on their social media presence. I sincerely hope that in the future this gallery improves in terms of communication, professionalism, fairness, and respect toward artists.
