Bestie adventures in Red Wing just wouldn't be complete without a visit to the local bookstore. We heard great things about this one, so we had to check it out. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by a gentleman (I wish I'd gotten his name!) who immediately made us feel welcome. He was friendly, clearly passionate about books, and incredibly knowledgeable. He asked if it was our first time visiting, and when we said yes, he surprised us with an amazing gesture....a free book, each, tailored to our favorite genres. We were blown away by the generosity and thoughtfulness. The store itself is a treasure. Books galore, neatly organized by genre, and the place is not super larger, but makes you just want to look at it all. They also have a great selection of puzzles throughout. It's obvious that this place is loved -- both by the people who work there and those who visit. I purchased one book and I felt the price was reasonable. I can't wait to come back to Red Wing and when I do, I think another stop at this charming bookstore is on the list. Highly recommend to any fellow book lovers! read more

What a wonderful experience my first visit was. I was on a day trip to Red Wing and drove by the shop. I decided to stop, check it out and as I walked in the door I was welcomed by the most passionate knowledgeable bookseller I have ever met. I spent over one hour checking out the shelves learning so much about many book topics I never imagine. if you're up for an experience you won't forget I encourage you to make a stop. My daughters and I are on a mission to visit more local bookstores and Fair Trade Books was such a pleasure! It's a beautiful shop in Red Wing, cozy and filled with neatly organized new and used books. A selection was curated to local history and culture which is my favorite, so it was a pleasant surprise! My little girls were treated to a book based on their reading preferences and they really enjoyed the picks. We didn't get nearly enough time to browse, we are already planning our return trip. I saw they offer online shopping but it's worth an in person visit in my opinion! read more

What a terrific little book store. I really got the feeling that this is a labor of love. They were extremely helpful and engaging. They went way out of their way to find books that you would enjoy without pushing something down your throat. The store has a good if not vast selection of books with things crammed in every nook and cranny; and there are lots. The real key though was the people. What a wonderful bookstore! Small but well stocked with all genres. Zoe was amazing. She was so very helpful and patient with our questions. She persisted in helping our 10 and 13 year olds, who were hesitant, find just the right books. I highly recommend this bookstore, we will be back! Although, we may be set for awhile! Fair Trade Books is a new bookstore that just opened in 2014. They sell mostly used books, but do have a small new selection of mostly top sellers and YA fiction. It's not a huge place, but they've gathered a pretty good collection including some tougher-to-find books. The owner was very helpful and friendly, eager to find books to suit each customer's interests. He was able to tell us about the cool old building, which has its original tin ceiling. read more

The owner, Rick was incredibly rude when I tried to order a book. We asked to look at a picture of the book on the computer that we were ordering just to verify that it was the correct book since it comes in various formats, and he became very obnoxious and insulting to both myself and my 12 year old son. I have heard this from other people from Red Wing, so this is not a store I would recommend. read more
