Once I saw the pictures of the store on their website I KNEW i had to go. I was happily overwhelmed at first then just a tiny bit disappointed later. I can't remember how I heard of Save On Fabrics... but I think it might have been an ad on Facebook…read moreor social media. I kept it in the back of my mind and it just so happened I thought about it on the way out of town. I had just purchased a pattern for a blouse so it was great to stop by and see the store in person. There is plenty of fabric to choose from here, and a very friendly woman who helped me find what I was looking for. I would have spent more time here, but I asked if there was a restroom and was denied by a man who seemed to assess whether or not he would have let me use it in the first place, which initially did not sit well with me. I am all for giving people the benefit of the doubt, but I'd be curious to know if this was a case-by-case basis and if anyone has actually been able to use the bathroom here. Because my aunt wasn't feeling well, she left to find a bathroom (there's one at the Subway near the entrance of the parking lot), and I cut my shopping short because of the lack of facilities. However, I can't say enough about the woman who helped me. She was friendly and had a great energy about her. I also liked the friendliness of the clientele. Everyone I encountered was eagerly shopping for what they needed, and I felt as if I was in a creative environment. Worth a stop if you're looking for reasonably priced fabric and you don't need to use the restroom!

It pains me to write this review of what used to be one of my favorite stores. And I was a sad as…read moreanyone when I saw they had to close over a year ago due to a fire. And just as happy when they announced they'd found a new space and were planning to reopen. I have to say, having visited there a few times now, I'm pretty disappointed. The new space is still downtown, but a few blocks west of their previous location. Where parking was free at that spot, it's metered at this one. When I think of all the vacant retail spaces in town, many with parking lots or at least free street parking, it leaves me perplexed. And the new space itself is so incredibly small and disjointed. It's separated into multiple, small rooms. Their inventory is but a shadow of its former self. And the prices have gone up. Wayyyy up. Perhaps most perplexing is the complete lack of classroom space, which they'd gone to so much trouble to add in their own space. Combined all of this with semi-surly, N95'd employees and well... to put it simply...I don't see the appeal in returning here anytime soon. For now, I miss the old Ragfinery and hope they turn things around.

I took a class their owner taught, all about how to use those different feet that came with my sewing machine. It was a game-changer! Instead of just using the same foot over and over, I began to experiment with different feet and even ordered MORE specialty feet to use. She also had an amazing deal on a whole bag of feet which I bought on the spot that day and continue to use. In addition to sewing feet (and other notions) LoL also specializes in heirloom sewing patterns and supplies. You have never seen such beauty until you've seen what this gal creates with vintage lace and fabrics. It's truly awe-inspiring, breathtaking, inspiring work. Most recently, LoL has started sponsoring its own sewing expo in nearby Cloverdale. The next one is this November and I can't wait to go!
