I was surprised to see the Vera Bradley store at South Hills Village Mall permanently closed during…read moremy last visit, with Pandora going into its place. I've loved Vera Bradley since middle school--my purses, wallets, school bags, and travel bags have all been theirs. I especially miss the bright blues, pinks, and purples from the 2010s, with patterns like Plum Crazy and Very Berry Paisley that were vibrant, fun, and instantly recognizable for me. Even the 2020 patterns, like Felicity Paisley, and the bag styles from that era still felt fresh and joyful. Since the rebrand, I haven't connected with most of the newer patterns and color palettes the same way. I also started to feel like the prices became too expensive, especially for items made from materials similar to what you'd find in everyday clothing. While I can see how the current styles might appeal to a slightly younger generation, I think long term customers who have been with the brand since it's vibrant and youthful days and were used to the brand's earlier quality and durability may find the long-term value and craftsmanship lacking in comparison. I truly miss those classic pink-and-purple florals that made the brand so distinctive. Losing this store feels like losing a piece of my past, but the memories and favorite pieces will always stay in my heart.

As I shopped around the store, an employee greeted me. I thought that the selection of women's clothes was decent. I found two articles of clothing, a shirt and a pair of socks, to purchase. The checkout line was long, so I waited for several minutes. The cashier correctly rang up my transaction, and she said thank you and told me to have a great day. At home, I thought that the shirt was large and unshapely and that the socks fit well.

American Eagle has recently changed their return policy (nothing like it used to be), and I was out of the country on my honeymoon in the window when my order was to be returned. I called immediately when I got back from my honeymoon to explain the situation and got the runaround from several Customer Service Representatives that they were "looking into it" and they would get back to me. I never received a phone call back and instead, had to turn to leaving feedback on their app in order for someone to even respond to me via email. That's when I spoke to both Molly and Libbeth (via email), and they let me know that they couldn't find any calls or indication that I spoke to anyone over there. They said several times that they were unwilling to help me return the items and suggested that I go sell the items on Poshmark or Plato's Closet. They also said that they would not escalate the issue to a supervisor because there was no one beyond them that would be able to help. This is so disappointing coming from a loyal customer for the past 10+ years and it seems like they care more about their new "policy", versus working with a customer to try to arrive at a solution. I will certainly be taking my business elsewhere and hope everyone else does the same!

This was actually my first visit to Torrid, which is known for providing clothes and accessories to women sized 10-30. That's a big range and yes, that means some of their items fit me, too. Not all of them, of course; I'm still fairly short and petite. But in that regard Torrid is the same as any other store: you just have to try things on and see what works on you. In my case, I learned that Torrid is PERFECT for my upper body shopping needs. Specifically, since I picked up indoor rock climbing it's become harder to find well fitted jackets! To get the right fit in my shoulders and arms, I often have to go up to sizes that drown my body and frame overall. Not at Torrid! Here I quickly found a gorgeous emerald green blazer that fits my body and personality perfectly. Yay! The jacket finding experience means I'm definitely a convert now. Torrid is of course home to anything a woman could want - dresses, tops, sweaters, pants, rompers, shoes, accessories, etc. And everything I saw was cute and bright, which is a big deal for plus-size shoppers. I always heard that Torrid was inclusive to women of all sizes; seeing their products in person was just proof of that. As a bonus, the store staff were polite, but not overwhelmingly so. This was important since I was here with friends, one of whom is transgender. She's barely been out for a year, so shopping is incredibly stressful - and she's had awful experiences elsewhere with sales people more interested in making a sale than helping her. Fortunately, Torrid is not that kind of store. The staff are there to help you find things, get you a room, answer general customer questions, and help you check out - with no judgement and no pushiness to be found. Cute clothing plus acceptance of their trans customers...those are two big winning factors in my eyes. So well done, Torrid: keep being awesome and keep those cute jackets coming my way!

J.Jill is not one of my favorite stores, because I think that the prices are higher than what I want to pay and that the clothing makes my body look boxy and old, but I have shopped here a couple of times. Sometimes the clearance section has clothing that has a nice style and an acceptable price. During my most recent visit, the store had a sale of 30% off for certain full-priced styles, so an expensive sweater became moderately priced.

I love…read more South Hills Village: I love this store. Staff is warm and friendly and bend over backwards to please the customer. They even suggest coordinates in different parts of the store and accessories. They know their stock. They often compliment me on my selections. They don't pressure the customers. What can I say? They're just perfect! As soon as you walk into the store, you feel welcomed.

Ten to fifteen years ago, I loved J.Crew's clothing, but more recently, I have not liked the styles as much. (J.Crew, please bring back your styles from 10-15 years ago!) Nonetheless, as I looked through the racks and shelves of clothing, I found one t-shirt to buy for about $17. I did not have to wait in line to check out. The cashier immediately said hello, rang up my purchase, and sincerely thanked me.

While the items aren't exactly the same, you can still get away with buying jcrew outlet stuff while looking trendy and current. I just wish they had crewcuts here!!
