We dropped into Fab Furnishings in passing one Sunday afternoon and were pleased to find almost exactly what we wanted. The very credible Mr Singh gave us what he described as a very good price and promised to deliver to us for free. He explained that he did so frequently and used his own delivery drivers which meant that he could deliver within 48 hours of us telling him when we needed the furniture. We were glad to pay £700 and looked forward to getting our new bedroom furniture.
Unfortunately, it turned out that Mr Singh needed far more than 48 hours to arrange a delivery and, even after he promised to arrange something, it never actually happened. The first time I took a day off work to accept delivery, I received a phone call at about 10 o'clock in the morning to explain that the driver was ill and delivery had to be delayed. I was promised that they would use their own drivers the next time (I thought they had promised to do that the first time). The second time he cancelled, there was some wishy washy explanation about something (he didn't seem to know quite what) being wrong with his driver. The final straw for me was when (having taken yet another day off work) the delivery failed to turn up without any word of explanation or apology (this time, Mr Singh had given his "110% guarantee", I had "his word", he had booked two drivers (he had realised it was heavy) and, when I phoned him at 10 am in the morning, he had promised that it would be with me later that day).
Ultimately, I had to contact my bank and use their dispute resolution process to recover my payment from Mr Singh / Fab Furnishings. He had promised to give me my money back himself but I have no evidence that he ever tried to do that either. The good news was that, having got my money back, I ordered identical furniture on the internet which was cheaper than Mr Singh's "very good price" ("you've got over £1,400 worth of furniture there" were his exact words). Unfortunately, that was only after spending Christmas sleeping on the floor due to his inability to deliver anything that he promised so convincingly.
Do go in and have a look if you like - they are very friendly and convincing and, despite what it looks like from the outside, some of their stuff is nice. However, my advice would be that you chose what you want and buy it online - its cheaper, less stressful, and you may actually get your furniture (rather than ending up in dispute). read more
