The gallery can also be rented on a daily basis by anyone who is not renting a studio in the building, and there is a meeting room that can be hired out for business meetings or group events. The building is also home to a cafe and rental apartments, so its owners refer to the space as "a place for social and cultural creativity, and a new concept of affordable housing in Halifax." Made in the Maritimes has a lovely collection of local goods all in one adorable little shop. Today we were greeted by a sweet smiling young woman who chatted with us while we browsed. Even though I didn't have the money to buy anything I still enjoyed browsing all the wonders Maritimers have to offer. We need more stores like this.

The art is present in all media; from watercolors and acrylics to prints and photographs. Everything that is displayed in the gallery is available to be bought and prices range from a few hundred dollars for a legal sized piece to a few thousand dollars for the 30"x30" pieces. I recently joined a few friends to take in the latest exhibit that opened on March 26th featuring the work of Susan Hubely. Her work was very colorful, full of beautiful scenery and a great reminder that spring is well on it's way. Exhibits are constantly changing, every month so there is plenty of reason to check it out once and keep coming back. Although most of the art is severely out of my price range (even my fantasy price range) I would recommend this little gallery to anyone who appreciates beautiful pieces of art like the ones on display here. I wont hesitate to go to the launch party for next months exhibit. Hot Hint: The Secord Gallery website features the work of many artists who contribute to the gallery. The photographs taken by Dean Brousseau are my favorite.

I don't normally have a vast interest, but sometimes it's nice to look. I walk by this store quite frequently and one day bravely decided to go in. I was right. It was uncomfortable and I felt out of place... at first. After a while I forgot where I was and just really started enjoying all the paintings. Everything was very beautiful and unique. I was amazed at how long I spent in there. It was like I was in a mini museum. Since I'm not a connoisseur, I don't have a wild understanding of art prices. I couldn't tell you if they are high or low. What I can tell you is that the work was beautiful and being in here was an experience all in itself!

I've always left feeling just how one should feel after leaving a gallery-- inspired. No word of a lie, the work going through this spot is consist, fresh and always seems to offer a new vision; a new perspective; a new body of fundamentals. The owner of the gallery appears extremely passionate and artistically perceptive. From Holland and studying Fine Arts at OCAD, its obvious that she integrates an international and local eye. Her various living experiences seems quite suiting for new and interesting art for our fine city. I'd highly suggest stopping into this gallery. I've been to this location on a few occasions, primarily for NSCAD openings, with wine and cheese to boot! The gallery is comprised of a few separate rooms, with natural light filtering through the large front windows. The hours are fairly ample, open for public perusal from Tuesday to Friday 9-5pm, and Saturday and Sunday 11-4pm. If you happen to find yourself in this neck of the woods, it's worth it to head in. There is no cost and the works on display can be pretty inspired and inspiring.

The woman working was very sweet. She offered some conversation and information about the gallery as I explored. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the nature of the art displayed, but I do remember liking it. This is an easy gallery to put off, as it is out of the way. I'll have to take another visit and report an update. As my memory serves, this is a kind and lovely gallery with both NSCAD and outside art talents for the looking.

Gallery staff were very helpful in helping me with my choice. It sits above my desk as I'm typing this review and I remain very happy and impressed with this super native art piece.

And that's the perfect word to describe this art gallery - fun! Between the window displays, the art that's being showed and the owner herself, I have never left without a smile on my face. And there's something for everyone's budget too - you could go for the giant, expensive landscape, or a quirky pair of earrings or greeting card for a handful of dollars. I never feel pressured to buy when I go into this gallery, rather to just browse away, and have a chat with the owner if I feel like it.

'Argyle' is situated on upper water street in a beautiful old heritage building that really adds to the allure of the gallery. I definitely recommend going in and giving 'Argyle' a look. Walking through this place made me wish that my budget allowed for art purchases. 'Argyle' is currently showing a range of pieced titled: "Block Party." This exhibit is described as "[presenting] the viewer with all the contents of a fantasy world, separated into seemingly arbitrary categories, and compressed into gigantic cubes." Very visually appealing. There was also a piece called "Moose" which was comprised of textile pieces and wood- extremely well done I thought. Check out Argyle Fine Art! Especially if you have money for such things.
