A tour of the Goodwill Career Center with an overview of the services offered occurred on March 15,…read more2023 at 9:15 a.m.; in doing so, I had an opportunity to understand firsthand about the Goodwill mission which stretches beyond the donation model that I have long associated with the agency. As a result of this information, and the meeting with staff of the Goodwill Career Center, I learned about the scope for career preparation and reentry into the workforce as people have the opportunity to enhance their lives in some measure through training, workforce development services, and collaborative efforts with other community organizations. To be more specific however, Goodwill Northwest NC is 1 of 4 Goodwill organizations in North Carolina, 1 of 150 Goodwill's in North America, located in a 31-county territory, connected to 19 related career centers, employing 1,100 workers, and serving 25,000 annually. I greatly appreciate having the chance to meet the staff of the Goodwill Career Center in Salisbury, NC and I hope to continue with a partnership moving forward as the segment of higher education in which I am employed may funnel graduates into the organization where outreach is developed and nurtured.

This review is specific to THE DISCOVERY LOUNGE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM which is the…read morebefore/afterschool program directed by Cynthia Smith and is housed at QCSS but not affiliated with the school. I wish that QCSS would get rid of this program and find a better one. This is a warning to all parents, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THETHE DISCOVERY LOUNGE BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM. https://www.thediscoveryloungease.com/ The Director, Cynthia, charged me today (9/23/22) for the TDL  program, after stating that 9/16/22 would be the last time I would be charged, being that I removed my child from the program on 9/2/22 and he has not attended since. I removed my Kindergartener from the program after only about 2 and a half weeks because she contacted me several times for MINOR instances that should have been managed by the "highly trained" staff at the program. Cynthia contacted me with an attitude and a loud tone of voice and even made a personal attack on me verbally. I am a single, working mom and this has caused extreme stress, anxiety and frustration for me. I have to be the mother and the father for my child and I do discipline him and work with him as much as I can at home. I do my best to teach him proper behavior but he is a 5 year old at the end of the day. I truly feel that he was being ostracized and labeled in this program. It's like she was trying to get him out of the program instead of working with him. Some people do not need to work with kids. Cynthia's lack of professionalism has brought me nothing but distress that I am STILL dealing with it since I got charged AGAIN. I cannot afford to be charged for a program that I am not involved in. She has shown ZERO accountability for overcharging me. No empathy at all. I would recommend that people STAY AWAY from this program unless you want to deal with a constant struggle, being contacted at work every day for the smallest things, being personally judged and attacked. Hopefully no other parents have to deal with what I have been through.

It has been amazing to see how engaged, excited, and cared for he is every day. He looks forward to going to school, and at the same time, he is learning so much and becoming more independent. His teachers are truly amazing. They are not only wonderful with my son, but they also support and coach us as parents. They communicate with us, help us understand how to support him at home, and genuinely care about his development and well-being. Everyone at the school is so caring and welcoming, and the environment is wonderful. I can truly see how much my son enjoys being there, and that gives me so much peace of mind as a parent. I would highly recommend Guidepost Montessori to any parent looking for a school where their child will feel loved, supported, engaged, and encouraged to learn. We are so happy we made this choice!

My favorites things that we did in class was the movie we had to make, and then watching a movie at the end of class.
