I exited the freeway and pulled into a random parking lot checking them out. They looked fine but I was unsure. I looked across the street and I saw Red Oak Auto Repair and I pulled in right after they opened and I explained what was going on and they checked every tire, offered me some water and coffee, and they got me together. Confirmed that it was a censor that was malfunctioning but still give me a little more air than what was required just in case there was leak or something since I was driving far. They were so kind. They didn't have to do any of that, especially since I didn't spend any money there. if you are in that area, i 100% recommend them.

Fortunately our needed repair was…read moresupposed to be minor, but every time that check engine light comes on in a 20 year old Dodge Ram 1500, you just never know. Red Oak Auto Repair Center is a beautiful new limestone and red brick building on Ovilla Road near where we live in Glenn Heights. They've been open a few months and we decided to drop by and present our truck's problem. We had been told that the EGR valve and gasket needed replaced and our usual oil change and simple repairs place would be unable to do it. We were greeted immediately by a friendly young man who introduced himself as Mo. Mo listened, understood what another place had to say about the issue and offered to do a free diagnostic while we waited. I have to say that the waiting area is more like a living room than your standard waiting area. There are two distinct areas. One side has a coffee bar with snacks and a refrigerator with drinks and water. The unisex restroom is on that side in the corner. There's a four kettle chair seating group with a table, rug and a wall TV. Across the room is a comfy long couch and two chair set with tables, large area rug and a wall TV. The light green walls were a wonderful change from automotive or industrial design and there was lots of natural light. Just a lovely airy welcoming room. We had showed up somewhere around closing time not knowing really that they would start on the repair. They choose to and in the end, we waited until they closed. They had to go buy a part and on the Ram 2006, the part was very difficult to get to and then get out, as it was rusted in place. Mo kept us aware of everything as it developed and offered to drive us home and bring the truck to us after the repair was done in the morning. We lived but a few miles away. The repair with tax, labor and parts was $324.75. They worked hard on this repair. This truck has never been housed in a garage. Dodge Rams live long but this is the second engine. It's been awhile since we have had a repair other than A/C or a turn signal. Given what Red Oak Auto Repair did for us and the great rapport we established, I can say we'll definitely be back!

We did not like the process of getting our truck back and how our old catalytic converter was given…read moreback to us. We brought our truck in for service to change out 1 catalytic converter for $1,300. When we dropped the truck off at 1:30pm, we offered to pay before we left, but Effrain said to pay later, and pick it up at 5 pm. When we came back to pick the truck up (at 4:45pm), we were told we couldn't pay by credit card because the credit card system was down due to an internet outage, and he could only accept cash. That should have been communicated to us BEFORE we drove back to get our truck! Who walks around with $1,300 in cash? A simple phone call letting us know that the credit card machine was down, and to bring another form of payment would have been appreciated, but instead we drove down there not knowing this, and having no back up form of payment because the bank was not nearby, and closing in 15 minutes at 5pm! At this point, we just wanted to pay the cost and have our truck back, so we offered to write a check. He said 'no because your check could bounce'. Then we offered to leave our credit card so he could charge it when the credit card machine was back online, but he said 'no because we could cancel the credit card and never see us again.' This left no other option for US, so he insited that he has to keep our truck there and for us to come back the next day to pay and pick it up! We left there feeling like we were being viewed as potential criminals and was being punished! We were NOT happy with this since this could have been handled by a quick 'our machine is down, bring cash' phone call! The last part to this was that we told him that we wanted the old catalytic converter back once he replaces it with the new one so we could send it back since it was still under warranty, and when he gave it back to us, it was cut in several places! We were NOT happy about that, and he jokingly said, it will fit in a box easier (for shipping). Now that upset us because cutting it in pieces voids the warranty because they shipped it to us in one piece, so we were going to send it back in one piece, not several! It could have just been unbolted and not cut. Looking under the truck, the newly installed catalytic converter was also not lined up matching the original configuration. Needless to say, having better communication with us would have been a plus!
