First time I've ever done an escape room and I had a blast! They do a really good job of explaining things and there's a few small videos you watch before you start. We did one of the more advanced rooms and I feel like we got pretty far! We only needed 15 more minutes! I'm not sure the replayability, but it sounds like they do new ones each Christmas and there are a couple of rooms to try. Plus, it would still be fun to do the same one with new friends as long as you didn't give clues away and honor the experience! Redding was a midway for us (LA) and my in-laws (Portland) and we were happy to see there was an Escape Room in town. Loved the holiday themed room (Rudolph's Rescue) and thought they made an excellent use of the space. Thought there was a fair balance of easy and hard puzzles and while I agree it is lock heavy, we enjoyed ourselves. Also loved the extra touch of holiday themed signs to hold for the after photo. Game master was very nice, informed and dropped some hints for us along the way. As someone who has done a ton of rooms (Austin, Portland, Vegas, etc.) and mostly in LA where the Escape companies aren't fooling around, I definitely would recommend this room. read more

EDIT: This review has been updated to further clarify the accusations from the owner. FIRST off, my husband is a disabled war veteran of 20 years. He has NEVER come in contact with a business who accuses his service dog of "abusing the system". We carry around the required proof needed for people who "scrutinize" disabled people like this, which is actually illegal. That is why ADA laws are in place. The untrained employee asked if it was a service dog, but nothing else. By law, my husband doesn't even need to provide proof, nor does the dog need to wear his vest. We also know the ADA laws and have been publicly discriminated by this business. We have since filed a complaint against this business with the ADA to be placed on file. Remember: Not all disabilities are visible. SECOND, the cat is an emotional support animal for our daughter. YOU do not know her story. The website (as of this review) states NOWHERE about animals of any kind not being allowed into the business. The cat was in the backpack at all times. If this employee was so allergic, then she would have been affected because of the animal hair on our clothing. THIRD, our review of the business still stands. We had a bad time in a room full of locks and no flowing storyline. Their latest Instagram postings showed 11 out of the recent 15 groups FAILED to escape their rooms! Google Reviews is a place for public opinion and we are free to express ours. The owner has our number, has never reached out, and wants to publicly post their opinions about something they know nothing of. We still do NOT recommend this business as they are apparently NOT service animal friendly. REVIEW: We are fulltime RVers and love traveling the country. We've participated in hundreds of escape rooms in every state we stop in. Our experience at Extreme Escape Redding was horrible! It was SO hot and miserable in the room first off. Who wants to play in that? We asked before hand for nudges, which were told "if I see you're stuck I will". Not once did the game master help us. We stood there not knowing what to do next. We used our 3 clues plus 1 more. And to take 2 minutes off our time is unnecessary. We paid money to have fun. Why make a family disappointed by having them fail? That would definitely make someone not want to return. Here's some advice... why not ask the group before they start if they want it to be more of a competition or if they are there for fun. After exiting the room, the employees were just sitting there chatting. One of them said congrats. For what!? We did not get offered a group photo either. So why ask for our team name and Instagram name beforehand? Extreme Escape Redding is definitely on our list of worst places to go. If you want an escape room that has multiple rooms and is not just full of unnecessary locks, please look elsewhere! We were told to wait for the introduction video, and then the clock would start. The video never came on, and we voiced that to the game master several times. After about 10 minutes, the clock came on and instead of starting at 60 minutes, it started at 50 minutes! We hadn't really been trying to solve anything in the room yet, because we were waiting for the introductory video and the clock to start. Yes, we were looking around to see where the locks were, but we were not actively trying to solve them. We did not escape in the 50 minutes of time allotted to us, and as we were leaving the room and when I brought up the problem to the game master from the beginning of our time, the employee stated that this room sometimes had problems with the TV not coming on, and since we had been looking around the room, our time really did start when we started looking. She never gave us any messages that there was a problem with the TV, so we had no idea what was going on. Let's just say her customer service skills were awful. And even in the last minute of the game, we had solved a clue and a key was supposed to appear and it somehow got stuck and didn't. She kind of said oh well, I would have come in to get the key if you had had more time but since there was only a minute or two left, I didn't. Terrible customer service. It would've cost them nothing to give us that extra 10 minutes. If we had legitimately lost in the full 60 minutes, I would have no complaints. read more

Our family of 6 did Captains Curse for Fathers Day 2022. We're from Southern California and escape rooms are everywhere and we've done quite a few as a family. I was surprised to see that there were so few in Redding and wasn't expecting a challenge but I have to say we were all stoked and extremely happy with the difficulty level and creativity of some of the puzzles. This escape has a pirates theme and the actual room is decent sized and consists of 3 separate rooms that you work your way through. There's a tv screen with a count down clock where your game master can give you clues. We finished with 9 minutes to spare, which was kind of where you want to be. There's nothing more annoying then finishing a 60 minute escape room in under 40 minutes. It's a major let down when the room is too easy and can't support a group of people. This room allowed for us all to work together, break off into smaller groups, or work solo which IMO is a good gauge for a room; does the room rely on 1 puzzle to move to the next or is it more fluid so everyone can find a challenge? Captains Curse is fluid. The room didn't have a lot of high tech puzzles and was primarily lock/key and combo based but the puzzles to get you there were somewhat unique, theme based and kept us guessing and working strategies. I'm not a fan of overly high tech puzzles and really enjoy trap doors, magnet activated latches and good old fashioned brain teasers. I highly recommend this room for those looking for a certain level of difficulty. Rachelle was an attentive game master, had great energy and gave us just enough nudges to keep the game moving without giving up the goods. We actually tried to book Hunters Heist for tomorrow but sadly they're closed on Mondays & Tuesdays and we're only here for the weekend. Next time Redding! read more

There was 25 steps In other words there were 25 different locks you have to open it just 60 minutes and in my personal experience I got to step 22 and the timer went off and after and hour of solving puzzles instead of letting us finish the game they came in and just said that goes there that goes there and you would think they would at least have some cool gadgets but it was all just a bunch of locks over all one star. read more

The time together included solving puzzles to unlock various keys and decipher what was needed to success in the allotted timeframe. The space had adequate room to accommodate 8 of us and we had a great time. If you are looking for an activity to bring work team or family members together, I highly recommend Extreme Escape Redding. Sign up was easy and parking was no problem. This experience would make a fun gift, or a fun prize if you are looking for something to reward a group of employees. Big fan of escape rooms, sadly this venue has sloppy set ups and puzzles that don't work. Being a big fan of escape rooms I'd gone a number of times anyway. When I finally told staff that a number of times the locks stuck or the room was missing elements, I was basically told I was an idiot and should go somewhere else. It was really disappointing because I wasn't asking for money back, or even really complaining. Just trying to share information. The young lady working there (maybe just having a bad day?). I've done five escape rooms here, and will be doing the sixth on Sunday. The rooms are really well designed, some of the better crafted rooms of the 50+ I've done so far, mostly around San Francisco. The first puzzle is always a bit harder than I'd prefer, but once we get that one, the momentum builds, and we end up solving more puzzles that I thought we could in an hour. The operators are extremely friendly and attentive, and make sure that we never got frustrated. Don't be afraid to ask for a clue. If you get stuck, you're probably just missing something, and a clue won't spoil the fun, it will just get you back on track. Looking forward to future rooms! read more

Crazy fun! This was my first time in an escape room. Our group ranged from age 9 to 60. It took the brains of all six of us to try and figure out how to escape. We failed to escape and save the world but it was an "epic fail". The staff there are amazing and hilarious. We will definitely revisit and try to conquer the other rooms. I took six teens- mostly fourteen and fifteen to try the escape room. Due to some logistics we were a little late but were advised we could still go, we would just lose a little time. We quickly completed the digital releases and were given instructions by the employee. Our room was military based and I don't want to reveal any clues so I will just say that it was fun, we finished just under the wire and would all go again. The reason for the missing star is simply that a few of the props needed attention. For example in some containers there were supposed to be a certain number of items. The items had come unglued and were missing or moved and so we struggled with the clue for a while. There were a couple things like this and finally we realized we should just check with the employee monitoring our room (communication is over a television monitor). We would say something like "in this _ there are this many _ is that correct?" He would respond if it was supposed to be different. I want to say again that we had a fun time! read more
