Jay completed our inspection in late April and did a great jobs. As April is a busy month for real estate, he was very accommodating and was able to squeeze us in on a Sunday afternoon (a time that worked best for us). For the inspection, he showed up on time and was very thorough. Being a first time home buyer, he walked us through what he found and even provided a few tips and recommendations. He promised to have the report completed by the following day and, as promised, it was ready the next day. No extra mile here, only extra money on our part, due to their blatant errors and omissions. They inspected a new to us home purchase. Even after we had specifically asked if there were any problems with the roof, they reported that the roof was in good condition. After closing on our property, we learned that they completed their inspection 2 days after a major hail storm had occurred. We then had a separate roof inspection, which showed evidence that they had not reported damage that should have been revealed to us, and the roof inspector stated that they could not believe Extra mile inspection did not bring this damage to our attention, as it was incredibly obvious to someone who has minimal training in inspections. When it was brought to Extra Miles attention, they pointed out that they cannot be held responsible for missing such an obvious error. My advice would be, do not hire this company, as they will possibly miss major problems that will cost you a ton of money, and they will not take responsibility for their errors and omissions. And from other yelp reviewers, it seems this is not the first time they have made such an erroneous and costly mistake. I wish we had seen the warning and avoided having them as our inspector- don't make our mistake. read more

Jay did a fantastic job inspecting our new home. My wife and I are currently purchasing our first home and in the whirlwind of days following our offer being accepted, Jay was accomodating with his schedule, early on the day of the inspection (so he could get started taking photos), and incredibly pleasant. Never having been through a home inspection before, I was unsure what to look for or expect but Jay was very helpful in explaining features specific to our home and commenting on the quality of certain materials or work done so that we were familiar with what a home that has been kept up with should look like. He included the existing hot tub and shed in our inspection as well, which I have heard is not always the case. Overall, Jay was professional, helpful, and friendly. His report came very quickly with details about the ages of appliances he had looked up as well as other useful notes. It's not my intention to come on here and bash Jay. I think he's probably a great guy. He was funny as hell, and reminds me of one of my buddies. ..one that I would regret hiring to do the home inspection. He just completely blew it on the inspection of the home in question. There were major structural members cut out in order to fit a full size door in to the entry of the basement. Good thing my mom caught what Jay deemed "questionable framing" because I'm pretty sure Jay didn't. Jay a word of advice to customers, don't assume your average everyday Joe understands that "questionable framing" really means that the house you're about to buy could be structurally unsound and potentially dangerous to occupy. Something about "recommend contacting contractor" doesn't really add up to going the extra mile. Of the half dozen other issues that I later found out Jay either straight up missed or neglected to put in the report, one was a very serious fire hazard that could very easily result in a very serious fire. Hopefully the person that ended up purchasing the house after we backed out had a home inspector that caught this one. Two seperate contractors and my own dad (my dad knows next to nothing about construction and still caught it) all saw it and coincidentally all asked me "what did you pay this guy for??". I contacted Jay and he picked up his phone so that's a plus...but he was cocky, unapologetic, and acted as if I should have known as much as he did, while I was actively involved in the whole process. The problem was I don't know anything about inspecting homes. If I did I wouldn't have made the mistake of hiring Jay, or would've told him to go home after catching the first thing that Jay was well paid to miss. There's much more to be said about what Jay somehow missed like the gaping hole in the soffit where rodents chewed there way in, or the floors that where so badly pitched in every which way just to name a few things. I would hope a decent home inspector would mention this to a first time homeowner wanting to know anything and everything and there asking for any advice or recommendations on anything and everything. Ofcourse Jay was recommended by an agent who I'll just say I no longer use. Please don't try to say this was all covered in your inspection report, because it wasn't. Jay, feel free to send me my $350 back for this less than 1,000 sq ft of home if you want me to take down this review. My address is PO Box 311 Spring Grove, Il 60081. At a bare minimum admit that you blew it and couldn't have cared less that you did. There's plenty of sites out there to let everyone know just how great you are at going "the extra mile". As someone that does not work in the home remodeling or plumbing or electrical industry, we relied heavily on our home inspector's findings for the purchase of a $500,000 house. We were very disappointed to learn that many very expensive items were not in our inspectors report such as the proper construction for a wood deck. Our new home does not even meet code, which should have been a red flag, but it wasn't even a yellow flag. There were other large ticket items missed as well that will end up costing us a lot of money to correct. We're really disappointed and would not recommend Extra Mile Inspection. read more
