I've been going to Gerald for 10 years! TEN YEARS, double digits people! I've followed him from salon to salon ever since I was a college kid, because honestly he's THE best stylist you'll find in the Bay Area. There have been a few times over the last 10 years when I just couldn't make my schedule work so I had to find an alternative, but no one other than Gerald has earned from me the same level of respect of their work. Why is he so good? He's thorough, very detail-oriented, and provides superior customer service. I've done short to long, long to short, bangs, bob, asymmetrical, color, anything you could think of. He's never disappointed me. He always starts by asking what I want, then throughout the process, he takes his time to care for every string of my hair. I have very soft and thin hair for a girl; He taught me tricks on how to create volume just by using a blow dryer! He uses really good hair product; but if you don't specifically ask, he won't push any products on you. He is truly a perfectionist. I actually didn't want to write this review, cause that means it's only going to get harder to make an appointment with him now. WARNING! Please use my photos and experience as a warning. I scheduled a consultation and at that time I had Gerald touch and look at my hair. I told him everything that had been done to it. We discussed what I wanted and more importantly what I didn't want. I told I never ever want my base color touched as it pulls warm and I want cool tones. *Gerald even said my base color was perfect for what I wanted. I also explained that I didn't want a blue cast to my hair. Visit 1: After bleaching my length and doing hi lites it came time to tone. He started applying color to my base. I'm like, whoa this isn't want we discussed. He said he always uses 3 or more colors to tone and that it's boring to him otherwise. At that point I'm stuck. He swore my hair would look good. My base came out reddish brown "warm" and the rest of my hair had a serious blue cast to it. To make matters worse he painted on extra base so it looked weird on my part. He apologized and said he'd fix my base another day. I played off my huge disappointment as I needed him to fix his mistake. Two days later I come back and since I needed him to not only fix my base "which he could only do by darkening it", but to break up what he painted on at my part and around my face with baby lites and fix the blue tone. I offered to cover his time as I could see he wasn't interested in doing a good job or a job at all. I mean who does the opposite of what the client asks? That's why I was also overly kind with my tip. My hair looked better until a of days later when it started breaking and I mean BREAKING! One week later I stopped by to see if he had any product that might help. HE SAW MY HAIR at that time. However I didn't want to make a scene being he had a client and his son there. Now I'm really Fing pissed! Not only did Gerald Do what Gerald wanted to do, but he disrespected me! I mean it's not his hair to make decisions for. I waited until I could communicate with him without being overly angry. I sent him a text requesting a full refund. I also informed him that I occurred an additional 150.00 in reparative haircare products and 40.00 for a trim to cut a straight line. I was really hoping he'd take this as teachable moment and do better moving forward. He passive aggressively apologized and immediately tried to negotiate and low ball me on a refund. I got angry again and declined any low ball offers from him. He kept whining about his time supply costs and studio rent. Really Gerald, there is a cost of doing business. There is also a liability business owners must accept. He also whined about what was standard in the industry. No Gerald, myself and others have received full refunds on services and tips. He also tried to claim that monies I spent on visit 2 were a GIFT! Wtf???? A 180.00 gift??? In our text communications he was arrogant, immature, insensitive, and greedy. SAVE YOURSELF A TRIP AND DONT SEE GERALD! Total spent with Gerald 620.00 including tips. NEW TOTAL $620.00 with Gerald WHO RUINED MY HAIR. $40.00 to have another stylist cut the straight line Gerald didn't. $300.00 in assorted products $145.00 for a reparative conditioning treatment and two tape in extensions. $374.00 in additional specific products including an oleoplex kit. This also doesn't include the $150.00 for another pack of tape in extensions. Grand total: $1,629 My new Hairdresser who is a friend of Guy Tang suggested I sue you, because YOU RUINED MY HAIR. So someone has not only seen my hair, but assessed the damage that YOU DID TO IT Gerald. This new competent and ethical Hairdresser offered to write a statement attesting to the damage YOU did, Gerald. While suing you will cost me, it will bring home that neither YOU or anyone else has the right to cause others Harm. So when I popped in a week later to see if you had anything that could help my hair and I showed you part of the breakage, but didn't make a scene, because you had a client and his young son there. Now you say you didn't see my hair or access it? Yet you thanked me for not making a scene. Mmmm? I deserved a refund based off the fact that YOU NOT ONLY DIDNT DO YOUR JOB, but YOU RUINED MY HAIR. What I spent in services and kiss your butt tips to fix it cant even touch what I've spent On reparative services, products, and extensions visit one YOU messed up. Visit 2 destroyed my hair. Gerald your are attempting to do damage control by blaming me. However it doesn't make up for your lack of skill, integrity, and greed. So while you, Gerald, post selfies I'll keep posting and updating pictures so people can see how long it takes for hair to recover after You burn it off.
