    Jessica's email from Exploring Minds

Shady admissions. We put a deposit in July 2021 for my son, never heard back. Meanwhile had a few friends put a deposit in after us and their kids were admitted for September 2021. This is one of those kinds of pre-schools that are looking for a "personality fit" (see email) which is code for discrimination. When I followed up in October to get a status update, Jessica wrote we "maintain a balance within the classroom based on age, gender, and/or personality." Well Jessica, the friends kids that were admitted were like my son - same age, same gender, same socio income bracket and never attended anything associated with the school. The one key difference was, they were white Caucasian. Luckily my son has a lot of personality and thrived at every school he's attended. He got admitted to several other great Pre-Schools, so no loss on either side (other than my deposit and time to write this review). However it's a shame that in LA in this day and age, there's still a school that operates like the old days.

Before I give a glowing and deeply heartfelt review of the experience our family has had at…read moreMontessori House of Children with both of our boys, I want to share a broader thought, because context matters, especially when parents are making one of the most important decisions of their lives. I think it is fundamentally unfair when a school receives a one-star review based purely on a parent's expectation of what they think an accredited Montessori environment should be, particularly when that opinion comes from a misunderstanding, limited exposure, or without ever actually attending or engaging with the school. Montessori education is nuanced, intentional, and often misunderstood when viewed through a traditional lens. What troubles me most is how quickly some people run to leave damaging reviews without first asking questions, seeking clarity, or having a conversation with the school. Educators and administrators put their entire lives into the well-being of these children and the integrity of their program. Parents rely on real, lived experiences when deciding to place their children in someone else's care, and highly subjective or reactionary reviews do not serve that trust or decision-making process. I truly believe that if something feels off, the first step should be to pause, gather information, and talk with the school. If, after genuine effort and understanding, you still feel strongly, then by all means leave a review. But perspective matters. And if you take a moment to look at some of the most extreme one-star profiles, you will often notice a pattern. Volatility, absolutes, and very little middle ground. Life, and education, rarely works that way. Now onto what actually matters. Our older son graduated from Montessori House of Children and is now thriving in first grade. Our younger son is about to graduate this year. Over the years, we have watched both boys grow not just academically, but emotionally, socially, and independently. This school helped shape who they are as learners and as people. The teachers are patient, intentional, and deeply invested. The environment fosters confidence, curiosity, responsibility, and respect. These are core Montessori principles that are clearly lived, not just advertised. Our children felt safe, seen, challenged, and supported. We will always be grateful for the foundation Montessori House of Children gave our family. It is not just a school. It is a community that genuinely cares about children and their development. I recommend it without hesitation to parents seeking a thoughtful, authentic Montessori experience.

TLDR; Second child just graduated Montessori…read more Bittersweet is the vibe. We truly wish our time here would never end, but now it has, and for the second and final time. Both our children entered this happy place at the youngest possible age, 24months, bc we wanted them to enjoy the stimulation of a preschool setting, and we are so happy we did. It goes far beyond the lessons learned in the classrooms, and the social norms they picked up in the sandbox. This is a place entrusted with not only watching your most precious possessions, but nurturing them and guiding them in their most formative years. It almost feels inadequate to relate the gravity of this responsibility and the proven outcome in a few graphs on the internet, but here we are. A combined 6+ years total, spent at this place. The first week at Monty with our first born, we weren't sure what to expect. She was able to do dropoffs well, as she had experience w that in daycare. Ofc, there were more than a few days where those turned difficult, her tears streaming, legs kicking, voice straining with violent screams at the prospect of not hanging out with Dad all day as he worked from home. But nobody is better at that particular hostage negotiation than the staff at Montessori. What seemed a task akin to charming a hissing Cobra snake was handled like a scoop of ice cream. I still remember the first Friday pick UP where my daughter had a complete meltdown at being told she was coming home for the day, and no, she couldn't come back til Monday. From an infrastructure standpoint, it's hard to beat this facility. The powerful HVAC hums along in all seasons so everyone is in comfort. The lunches are prepared hot, consistently, and lovingly everyday, which is so convenient. And most of all, their vast shaded outdoor space, separated by age, is what really sets this place apart. Children are at their best when given room to run, and the playground and toys provided are second to none. I'll miss cleaning the sand out of their shoes every day. Ultimately tho, what really makes this place what it is, is the Staff. The longtime teachers here truly love their job and the children they teach. The small class sizes ensure these wee ones have a loving experience as they navigate the bright and sometimes stormy journey of early childhood. The teachers always know how to handle any of the challenging situations that arise, and have a never ending supply of love to share. They also potty trained both our kids in a short amount of time, filling the crucial daytime gap of our schedule. Another advantage they provide you with is the highly individualized education plan that is tailored toward the daily progress of your child. Age is just a number here. When our kids were showing progress w their numbers and letters, they advanced appropriately. Both had a full kindergarten education a year early as a result. And, not to brag, but I strongly believe this to be the main reason why our oldest (now a soon to be 3rd grader) threw a perfect game on her OLSAT. Some folks say start kinder a year late, I think a year early (for the right child ofc) is the move. When LAUSD started offering free transitional kindergarten, it was natural for us to consider taking them up on the offer. But we quickly decided against it, despite the cost savings and convenience of a single dropoff in the morning. We didn't want our 4 year old getting bullied in the bathrooms by 5th graders, nor being immersed in a classroom of 30 some odd kids either. At this tender age, the loving, hugging nature of Monty is something we could never quantify, and is by far a superior environment. Really, it's hard to overstate the profound feeling of gratitude we have for this School. Like, it's not simply a Thai food restaurant you frequent bc you can't think of what to make for dinner. It's a place where children will receive an upbringing that never misses, that they enjoy and truly delivers at every opportunity.

This is a pre-- School where children learn and thrive and learn to learn and thrive even more when they sadly will have to move on to the next level of life and education. Ms Vanessa and the entire team of teachers are so lovely and caring and are always coming up with the most creative activities. I will never forget attending the Thanksgiving Potluck and was amazed at how the children made the table cloths, did the flower arranging, and decorated centerpieces for the tables. It truly was a work of art! For their end of year show, the teachers had written and composed all the music and songs that the children learnt! No other school would do that, and I think it instills such creative values in the children. Since attending, my child's creativity has just blossomed and it's been so amazing to see. The teachers also focus on numbers, the alphabet, and learning about other countries and cultures. Plus, they learn french, yoga, and music. It really is a well-rounded Montessori curriculum. I also love that the school has a clean eating policy and serves healthy snacks. If you are a parent looking for a nurturing school that is going to inspire your child, Greenleaf is it! I couldn't be happier with my decision to send my child here.

From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt an overwhelming sense of warmth, safety, and true care -- the kind you'd hope for but rarely find. Ms. Lisa is the kind of teacher every parent dreams of. Nurturing, wise, and endlessly patient -- like a second mother to our daughter and a true support system for us as parents. She made every child feel seen, safe, and special. The way she handled her classroom with grace, joy, and structure made such a lasting impact on our daughter. You could tell she truly *loved* what she did, and her students felt that every single day. She also made learning fun and rewarding by always offering little prizes for positive reinforcement. Whether it was stickers, small toys, or thoughtful surprises, the kids were so motivated and proud. It was never about the reward -- it was the way Ms. Lisa made each child feel noticed and celebrated for their effort and kindness. And Ms. Vicky, her amazing assistant, was just as kind and attentive. Always there with a gentle smile, ready to lend a helping hand or give encouragement when the kids needed it. They filled the days with so much joy -- pizza parties, cooking activities, fun themes, and learning moments disguised as pure fun. Our daughter came home every day glowing with stories and pride in what she learned or created. She was genuinely excited to go to school -- and as a parent, there's nothing more comforting than knowing your child is not only safe but *happy* and thriving. We joke that we wish Ms. Lisa could follow our daughter all the way to college -- that's how deeply we love and trust her. This school, and these teachers, have left a lifelong imprint on our hearts. We are forever grateful. If you're looking for a preschool where your child will be loved, encouraged, and truly *known* -- look no further. This is the place.

Now my son will be turning 3 this August, and I can honestly say this experience has been one of the biggest blessings for our family. Every morning, my son wakes up happy, excited, and ready to go to school. As a mother, that feeling alone gives me so much comfort and peace. When my son first started at Maha, he could only say a few simple words like "mama" and "baba." After only a few months, I noticed an incredible difference in his speech and communication. He became able to express himself clearly, explain what happened during his day, talk about his teachers and friends, and communicate in ways that truly surprised me. The improvement in the way he talks, thinks, and interacts with others has been amazing. I have also seen incredible growth in his personality, confidence, independence, and interest in learning. He especially enjoys thinking games and problem-solving activities, and I love seeing how curious and independent he has become at such a young I was especially impressed by the special events and celebrations they organize for the children.
