I was an Expedia Gold member for years before COVID, and recently opened their credit card. However, recent experiences with their lack of flexibility, technical glitches, and overall poor user experience are causing me to reconsider my loyalty. A few days ago, I tried using their Price Guarantee feature, but it wasn't working properly. I kept receiving the message, "Apologies, something went wrong on our end. Please try submitting the form again." Despite trying multiple times throughout the day--especially since the price difference was over $200--I was unable to submit my claim. I took screenshots and copied the link for documentation. Yesterday, I tried again, but the issue persisted, and it was clear that Expedia hadn't fixed the bug. Frustrated, I contacted customer service, only to be told they wouldn't honor the price match due to the technical issue on their website. As a result of their glitch, I couldn't submit my request in time, and now I'm stuck paying the higher price. On top of that, I wasn't able to track my membership progress on their site or app at all throughout last year. Long-time Expedia user that just scammed to the point where I am no longer comfortable using them again and recommend against anyone using their services. I booked a hotel in Wales in January and upon arriving found the hotel had no record of the booking. Expedia had an internal system issue and registered the booking to a hotel with the same name hours away in England. This is despite my booking confirmation email explicitly listing the location as being in the town I selected in Wales. They insisted their records showed "the booking was made for this town in England", probably because they changed the location of the hotel in their system after the booking had been made. They only finally refunded the price after hours of resistance and gaslighting, calling it a "goodwill gesture". Luckily the hotel had a room still available, but the rate was double what was initially booked. And on top of that, all the photos/descriptions on the Expedia booking platform were fake - the room didn't remotely match the photos/description. So in the end I'm out hundreds of extra dollars for a worse room than was advertised, with hours of a headache to even get the actual booking fee refunded. I continued correspondence to try to simply get them to cover the difference and they refused to do it, repeatedly insisting their records are right and my confirmation email (showing the location I booked) is not to be relied on. You know, the entire purpose of a booking confirmation, apparently can't be relied on? I think they are using AI to form their hotel booking pages and clearly mistakes like these are falling through the cracks. I am currently stranded in Istanbul with a return trip in just days and no guaranteed way home. Although I have an email from Expedia confirming that the first leg of my return trip was canceled--and it also appears as canceled in my customer portal--Expedia relied on the airline's vague claim that the flight is "unconfirmed," not canceled, to deny my refund. Only after faking an itinerary number and repeatedly entering it did I finally get through to an agent in INDIA. Very nice fella though difficult to understand due to genteel but heavy accent. They have told me that all policies are in the documents and to read carefully. When I went to pick up my rental car, Hertz told me that they couldn't honor the reservation and that I would need to contact Expedia to find out why. I contacted customer service. They refuse to issue a refund, and I now have active complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, the Virginia Attorney General's Office, and the BBB. It's a scam, and they should refund my money. The only automatic transmission they had was an upgrade so I had to pay an additional amount. I was also surprised to learn that they said the insurance I purchased was not thru Autovía but a 3rd party. Autovía informed me that the insurance I purchased was insufficient. When I tried to see what it covered the coverage page on Expedia app kept coming up blank. I ended up purchasing the coverage from Autovía I prepaid the Expedia the car rental $400 for rental and insurance. I ended up paying an additional $300 for rental upgrade and insurance at Autovía. I've used Expedia many times, but after this... never again! I booked a hotel for my daughters & I to stay for Oct 26th-27th. I put these exact dates, because Oct 26th was one of my daughter's bachelorette party day. I book the room. Shortly after, I read the itinerary and noticed the dates had changed. So I called the hotel first. The hotel said the only person that can change/cancel it was Expedia, because the hotel has no involvement in third party booking. Expedia says they have to get permission by the hotel. I just wanted the dates to be corrected. No help from Expedia. Now I have a paid room on Oct 29th-30th, which won't be used because it's a work week. And I had to go book another room for Oct 26th-27th... not by Expedia! But I came to realize that they will never issue you a refund or credit for any unforeseen changes even when I was in Italy and my mother suddenly passed i had to rebook a new flight home with no credit for my return flight. I went back to each invoice and they never match what was being charged. So with proof of invoice i have a case to file with my credit card company. We missed a connecting flight coming home and it cost us 11 extra hours of travel. When we arrived at the airport, we had no clue where to go or who to talk to. The agents were really rude yelling at me saying to wait in line.
