Exeter is a very nice course. On May 8. I played golf with my 3 boys. A great day made reservations paid full price for pinched greens. Do you think maybe you could tell people they were punched. This course has a great layout, and a solid challenge for any level player. Ive ways hated the greens as they're typically slow as molasses and hard to read as a result. So for any mid to low handicapper, you've been warned. The lady that runs the place is a clown though, thinks she's queen b running around like she runs Newport Country Club. Can't stand the management there, which is why most of the time I never play there, unless I'm desperate for a tee time. It's too bad too because I do like the layout. read more

Place is great for south county golf, has very minor flaws mostly green related (dead spots, patchy) for average golfers this place is a nice easy spot for the fellas, for guys who are more seriois this is second resort to some of the other places around. read more

The skinny: Exeter Country Club plays 6921 yards from the Back (blue) tees. From the regulation (white) tees, the length is 6406 yards, from the Forward (red) tees, the course plays 5706 yards. Greens are Poa Anna Grass and fairways are Kentucky Blue Grass. Rates: Walking - 18 Holes Mon - Thu $36.00; Fri-Sun, Holidays $41.00 Riding - 18 Holes with Drive Cart Mon - Thu $53.00; Fri-Sun, Holidays $58.00 This is one of three course owned by the Hendricks family in Rhode Island (the other two being the New Meadowbrook and Richmond). Very playable and fair. Greens are generally in very nice condition and the course offers a good test of pretty much every club in the bag. My only beef would be that the tee times are pretty short spaced which seems to lead to a slow day if you play on the weekend any time after 10:00 a.m. I actually endured a 6 hour round there once last year. And that was not even in a tournament! A women friendly course in that there are no forced carries from the ladies tees. Clubhouse is an old remodeled farmhouse. Poorly managed country club. Booked a tee time in the morning and was put behind two parties of four, one of which was younger children who created quite a bottleneck. Constant mowing and grounds maintenance was on every hole. Water sprinklers ran on greens while playing. Rude and inconsiderate parties who don't know how to yell, "four" when hitting the ball and completely unapologetic players nearly hit my party twice. When confronted, there was no care given. Nice course but management and the players need to learn proper etiquette. Stop maintenance while people are playing and if you're going to shank a ball, call four or at least be apologetic about it. Ridiculous. Will not return. read more

Played here on a beautiful Friday morning. 9am tee time, and there was no real crowd, parking lot was fairly empty for that time. The course was in great shape. Fairways were well trimmed.. rough was tall, but not overly treacherous. The best quality of this course is that it's fairly wide open. Wayward shots are not severely penalized, but you can get yourself into serious trouble if you're too far off course. Greens are fair with respect to speed, and are fairly large and receptive. Pin placements can be on the tricky side at times. The most daunting shot is on Hole 16, with a Looooong carry over water, easily 180 yards, or at least it seemed that long. The clubhouse was nice, and the pastrami sandwich I got was pretty good. The starter/cashier guy was this 75 yr old guy who told bad jokes and chastised me for taking an extra couple of scorecards ("there expensive, ya know"). Considering the shape of the course, $36 for 18 was a pretty good price. One of my favorite courses in RI. read more

My husband and I played 18 at the Exeter Country Club. We had not golf there before and were pleasantly surprised at the conditions and great experience. It is a challenging course, very nice accommodations; bar clubhouse, rest rooms and pro shop. If I were to make a recommendation, it would be for better signage and markers on the course. Nice course but rude management. We played recently and were warned twice to speed it up during the round. We finished in 4 hours and 20 minuets which which is a normal pace for most people. We will not be going back. We like to golf and enjoy the game and not golf and see how fast we can finish. Seems like the owners just want to push as many people through their course on a nice day. read more

Phenomenal course course! Prestige condition, from tee box to green the course is great. Anyone who gave it a bad review is just salty they had a bad outing. Best public RI course hands down. It will challenge you a bit but still a fun course. Really cool design to the course makes for some fun downhill or across pond shots. Must play. Living Social had a deal for $55 for 2 rounds of weekend golf + golf cart so I bought it wanting to surprise my husband... Well I feel really bad because it turned out to be a 3.5 hour of torture for 9 holes. I agree with Chris below, they allow the tee-time to be too close together. There was at least a 5 minute wait between swings, and 10 minute wait at the tee box. I understand everyone wants to golf on a beautiful sunny Saturday. We aren't professional golfers but seriously, 3.5 hour/9 hole pace totally pushed us over. The momentum was gone so we quit after 9 holes. I played the red tee and it's definitely generous. There were water jugs with triangular paper cups every 3 holes or so. I saw the cart girl maybe once during my 3.5 hour torture. So make sure you bring a snack or 2 and a water bottle before you tee off. I also agree with Paul P below, the living social deal never mentioned or listed the after 12pm tee time requirement. We got lucky and got a tee time at 11:30am. Unless you have 6-7 hours to kill during a weekend,... if not, go back only during a week day. read more

I had the pleasure of playing Exeter CC this past Sunday 06/09/2019 upon entry into the club house , the older gentleman there was not very accommodating, he barely answered any of our questions , all he cared about is ow we were paying , that was a bit alarming from the start , with 2 gloves and greens for 4 cost us $310.00 , that's the most I paid for any golf outing , the course was in good shape , the cart paths on the other hand , were all dirt , if you were following another cart you were in a dust cloud , extremely unenjoyable , AFTER 9 we went to club house on the turn , we purchased 4 hot dogs and 3 drinks , $32.00 ( and correct if I'm wrong but hot dogs should not be white ,) the abusively don't care about the food they put in peoples body , and to top it off , the ranger came up yo us on the 16th and said we have to step it up , we were going a bit slow , I golf to enjoy myself and have fun with my friends , if people are in that much of a rush to get the game over , THEY should not be out there in the first place , to sum it up Exeter CC is all about the money , not creating a course you would enjoy golfing at , there are much , much better courses in RI , don't WASTE YOUR MONEY read more

This is a fairly open, classic parkland tract which plays to almost 6500 yards from the regular men's tees. The greens were generally long but quite variable the day we played, making speed quite a challenge. Playing mid week in mid autumn, the course was nicely complemented by the foliage and the surprising lack of players, which made for a nice, quick round. One downside is the only thing the kitchen had to offer for post round munchies to accompany our beers were chicken wings and onion rings. Really? read more

My buddies and I spend a lot of money here every season. Played in March. Walked in and asked the kid behind the desk how much for 18 with a cart. He said 30 dollars a piece. This seemed like a reasonable rate when it's 40 degrees out in March. Having a great round and we get to the 13th hole and the same kid that charged us when we got here drove up on us while we were putting and said "my boss said you owe us more money". We were respectful and said we will pay you when our round is done. He said no Problem. On the next hole "the owner" came up on a cart and was very aggressive and rude claiming we owed more money. We paid her after an unpleasant exchange. We will never be back again. It's our fault the employee under charged us and you ruined our round. So unprofessional. This is my favorite course in New England. Staff is great and the course is excellent. Played at 8AM and done in 3 1/2 hours. Walkable course which I like and can always find someone else to play with. Thanks for a great golfing course. read more

Exeter is a very nice golf course. The greens are a bit slow but the course has a great layout and is a fun course to play. The fairways are well kept and fairly wide open. I love playing there and the price is very fair. read more

My group tries to play Exeter every time we travel to Rhode Island. Although a little "pricey" for seniors, the course is always in great condition and plays nicely. The pastoral walls and bridges add beauty to the course and the restaurant is consistently good. Our only major knock on the course are the old golf carts which don't have roofs. This causes us to stay away on marginal weather days. Other than that it's definitely worth the trip. read more

The golf here is average. Our group of 16 had an outing here, golf, cart, range balls, cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres, dinner. Management tried to backtrack on the day of the event on many of the details that had been discussed. The manager also from the beginning did not want a printed contract. I can see why. The hors d'oeuvres were fine but the dinner was some of the worst food I have ever had at a restaurant. The steak was unidentifiable as such. Basically gristle. I wouldn't feed the corn on the cob to my animals. So much for the "chef" being able to count, my baked potato came out 5 minutes after I got my meal, straight from the microwave. The salad was basic 3 pieces of lettuce, 2 grape tomatoes, 2 rings of onion. You can put on your own italian dressing out of a pouch served alongside. Dessert was an uncrisp apple crisp in a styrofoam bowl with a plastic spoon. And to top it all off, the poor girl who was the only person working had to take care of our group of 16 and work the bar in another room for other patrons of the course.
