My daughter and I accompanied my friend for her group surf lesson with her friends. This is how I met Tony for the first time.. I was able to sit back and observe how he spoke and empowered, my friends and her girlfriends. My daughter has been wanting to take surfing lessons from the time she was a little.. after getting to observe and listen to their lesson and see Tony in action I was super excited to see if my daughter wanted to pursue lessons with Tony. Her first words coming out of her mouth were mom I'm so excited. Can you please schedule me some lessons with Tony I just love his energy and I feel really safe around him.. fast forward. We finally were able to schedule our first surfing lesson with all of the crazy rain that we've had. Tony was very accommodating to us and was able to switch our days around so we didn't have to deal with more rain.. Tonys energy and his calming tone of voice was just with my daughter needed.. he started off with a 15 minute or so lesson on the sand going over everything! Spiritual, Mental, learning how to pop up on the board , where are your feet are supposed to land .... But best of all ... Leaving your ego on the sand and let the ocean cleanse your soul. My daughter said what she really liked was Tony said don't think just feel! Feel the ocean underneath you and feel the board! My daughter also expressed when they were waiting for the sets to come in that they had a great conversation! She also expressed how she loved the way Tony spoke to her and such a calm manner, and never got frustrated. I have to add that as a mom sitting up watching your child take on the ocean is such an empowering moment. It was super cool to hear Tony coaching my daughter out in the ocean. It was so cool to hear him guide her and culture as she was popping up on the board. It was awesome to see his excitement when she was successful on riding her first wave, and you could hear his excitement all the way up on the sand! What an awesome first experience in surfing! My daughter and I highly recommend Tony Z! If I could give 10 stars, I definitely would!

Sister & Tony at Broad Beach (she had a blast!!)

Couldn't recommend Tony more highly. I started taking lessons last year when I was 36. It's been over a year & he has taught me so much- from the technical and physical aspects of surfing, to water safety, to respect for the ocean. He definitely caters the lessons to your level and is super patient with beginners. When I have family and friends come in from out of town I take them to Tony for a lesson because I know they'll have a blast. Honestly he's just a fun and easy-going guy. I think whether you're a tourist looking for that Malibu surf experience or an LA resident looking to take your surfing to the next level- Tony is your guy!!

Such a disappointment!!…read more I have been a fan of both Jacks and Dwight's for almost 50 years. Because Dwight's is still closed I stopped by here a few weeks ago craving "Strips & Cheese" The girl at the counter told me they were out of cheese. WHAT!! That's a first for me! OK so not cheese so I guess no Strips and Cheese! The girl at the counter was clueless, I even asked her if the owner was in and she said no, then I asked if the owner was aware that they didn't have any cheese because I have met the owner several times and I know that he would fix this situation right away. The girl at the counter just shrugged her shoulders and said nothing. Yesterday, the wife and kids went to the beach and again we stoped in for some strips. There was no line to order but there were 5 or 6 unhappy people waiting for their food. 25 minutes later we got our food while we watched a girl texting on her phone while food sat under the heat lamps. I asked the girl for an extra strips sauce and some BBQ sauce for my kids chicken fingers. The girl brought me a cup of salsa, like she filled up a Coca-Cola cup to the rim with the dipping sauce and then said they were out of barbecue sauce and all they had left was one side of ranch. Me and another customer looked at each other and then started talking about how bad the service. That other customer told me that Jack's lost their lease and that this was the last summer that this place was going to be here. I asked the employee about it and she confirmed it. It's kinda like this place it's just going downhill because why offer good service when the restaurants is closing in a few weeks. The whole situation was very sad because I remember old man Dwight, his son Jack who is now I think 90 years old is someone I've known since I was literally like five years old and then watching his son and his grandson run this particular store and now watching it fall apart again makes me kind of sad . What a mess !

My family of six rented single bikes from this shop and it was a frustrating experience from start…read moreto finish. The cruiser bikes were old, poorly maintained, and in some cases, defective--definitely not safe for rental. They also didn't have enough functioning helmets, and when we raised concerns, we were told, "As long as you're not biking fast, you should be fine." Be very careful with the rental timing. Although we didn't leave the store until 15 minutes after the time noted on our receipt (due to figuring out how to use their faulty bikes), they began charging us from the moment I signed the form, not when we actually left. The staff didn't explain how the contract or billing worked and just said, "We'll settle when you come back." We returned the bikes after 80 minutes and were charged $187 + tax, because they bill for a full day once you go past one hour. There's no grace period even though the bikes were difficult to ride and in poor condition - riding them for over an hour wouldn't be enjoyable anyway. Learn from my mistake: don't rent bikes near the beach, especially from this business. If I could do it again, I'd rent farther from the beachfront, carefully review the rental terms, and confirm the exact start time before signing anything.

His authentic soul and pure love of the water have imbued a level of sensitivity, passion, and deep study in my son, nurturing his growth from a young boy into an adolescent. I can confidently say the level of care offered by Malibu Surf Coach is not readily available with most, if not all, Los Angeles surf companies. My son was 7 when he had his first lesson with Malibu Surf Coach. When he was 12 years old, we had a brief term of surfing with a company in Venice through our Charter school, but our experience so paled in comparison, that we chose to forego the lessons paid by our charter, and invest in Malibu Surf Coach. This was the best decision we could have ever made. The unparalleled excellence of Malibu Surf Coach is unique and rare. Most surf companies lock in at one location, no matter what the surf conditions are, operating mostly like a day care. With Stingray, you get the most authentic, raw surf experience in some of the most beautiful locations California has to offer. Stingray's ties to the land and sea go back generations, and surfing with him is a spiritual experience. His priority is the very best experience and surf available for my son, and after each lesson, my son is filled with such gratitude, as if transported by the lesson. Before scheduling, Stingray will track the waves, and pick the most optimal window and location to offer my son. His generosity, time and commitment here are heartfelt. He and my son will sometimes start at one location, then drive to another if the waves aren't good. My son has learned so much from the extra attention, effort and care Stingray offers. More over Malibu Surf Coach's rates are low for the incredible gifts that come with each lesson. My son has been gifted an invaluable journey into the life of a surfer by Stingray, which has contributed so meaningfully to his maturation and growth. He has flourished under Stingray's mentorship in ways that are subtle and significant. As Stingray's student, he has received a depth of physical, emotional and psychological development. Our family will remain indebted to Malibu Surf Coach, with the deepest respect and affection. Thank you, Stingray.

There seems to be a ton of misinformation regarding this beach. Perhaps the MRCA which owns and…read morecontrols it should do a better job of signage and use instructions. First, read the California law on beach's. Not all beaches are public. The public may walk below Ho tide line- which basically means wet sand but above that may be private property and trespass laws apply. Don't believe it? The Malibu sheriffs will explain it quickly. The entrance at East Sea level IS a private road and gated community. Pedestrian beach access was granted but if you attempt to drive through and park you will be towed. It is a very long walk to LaChuza beach at this entrance. You will pass a sign half way telling you that entrance is a Private beach ( above hi tide line) so walk alllll the way down to the end to the stairs. If you decide to stop on the lawns for lunch and photos you are trespassing. The stairs and entry at Broad beach road is the best access. Parking is limited on broad beach and if you block a driveway or lawn, or litter you will be cited buy the Sheriffs. LaChuza has strict rules about use: Only service animals on leash. The MRCA rangers Will cite you. No alcohol. No smoking or drugs. No fires. Closed at 8:00. If you chose to use the stairs , the beach is at the bottom to the RIGHT. The beach area to the left is Private above the high tide/ wet sand and you will be tresspassimg and they will call the police. LaChuza looks lovely but it can be dangerous. No life guards. No toilets. If you pee or poop-you will be fined. The water is so nice- sometimes but there are strong currents and rips and NO life guards. Very Rocky with many submerged jagged rocks. In winter when the sand is low the water has many mor obstacles- wires- pipes- concrete pilings that can be dangerous. Swimmer beware. During hi tides sneaker waves cover the beach sending all your stuff to Japan. How do I know? I go knocked down and swept out by one. During hi tide the waves cover the entire beach. There are better beach options like Zumba or Leo Carrillo.
