My experience with Zach's Rental was disgusting. The way I was treated felt completely discriminatory and targeted. He prioritized certain customers while treating me like I didn't matter. His behavior made me feel singled out and disrespected in a way that absolutely came off as racist. On top of that, he was rude, dismissive, and the food was straight‑up nasty. Shrimp taco and quesadilla were excellent! Cheeseburger and chicken strips were ok. My picky son ate lots of the chicken strips. Seating was amazing, we got a couch with shade. My experience at Zack's Pier Plaza was extremely disappointing, and honestly, one star is too generous. The food was average and overpriced, but the worst part was the owner's attitude. After finishing my meal, I was standing outside the restaurant by the railing, simply enjoying the ocean view, when the owner suddenly came up to me and rudely said: "You got problems?" I was shocked! I wasn't doing anything wrong, just standing in a public area, yet I was confronted in such an unfriendly and disrespectful way. To make matters worse, even during ordering, the service was cold and unfriendly. Openly racist and unbelievably rude. The owners cursed at me and my two young sons using slurs. Completely unacceptable. The wetsuits smelled like urine and the surfboards were in terrible shape. Dirty, poorly maintained equipment and hostile people running the place. Avoid this shop. Go up the street to a business that actually respects customers. read more

I came here to rent a wetsuit and a board to surf for the day and had no idea they also had a shop, bike rentals and food, etc. On my next trip down here I'm definitely gonna spend the entire day on the beach and make this my hub. Do not rent bikes here. We stopped in and spoke to the owner Zack about renting EBikes for the Newport Boat Parade. We asked if we could keep them overnight, since the parade starts at 6:30pm and we would be watching the parade and Zack's closes at 5pm. The owner was very nice and said we could keep the bikes overnight, showed us 2 EBikes with lights which he said we would need to ride at night, and said he would make us a great deal of $80/bike for 24 hour rental. We immediately agreed and said we would go ahead and reserve them and pay, and come back around 4 to pick them up. Zack said to not worry about paying and just come back at 4pm and he would have them ready for us. We talked to him for 15 minutes about where we were from, how he built his business, and how much he enjoys Huntington Beach. He was such a nice guy. We planned our whole evening around this and went back at 3:50 to pick up the bikes. We were greeted by a very rude man and asked for Zack and he said Zack was gone for the day. We explained that we were the couple picking up the EBikes for the boat parade and he said, "oh yeah, my dad told me something about that. It's $120/bike plus a $900 deposit." We quickly let him know that Zack quoted us $80/bike and asked him to call Zack to confirm. He rudely said "Zack is my dad and I don't care what he told you. It's $120/bike and I'm not calling him. I don't care what he told you". We were being very nice and asked again why the owner would quote us $80/bike and reserve the bikes for us, just to have us come back and learn that wasn't possible. The son told us he didn't care what his dad said and didn't care about our business and that we could leave. And there were 5 other customers in the store who witnessed this, and he didn't seem to mind. It was the absolute rudest and worst service we received all weekend in Huntington. It was just bizarre to be treated so well by the owner and so horribly by the son. This place is definitely trying to scam tourists, and just doesn't care about their customers. If i could give it zero stars i would. I have a friend that is dark and when serving us fries we found hair in the chili cheese fries. We complained, only to receive more fries with pubic hair right on top of the fries. Terrible snack shack experience. Ordered chili cheese strips, got nachos with chili cheese on it and worst chili I have tasted in a while( unsalted and with a very little overall amount on a bland tortilla chip). The guy at the cash register argued the dish being called chili cheese strips, wasn't misleading and wouldn't give me a box becuase I didn't order it to go. Their burgers were held together by thousand Island sauce and their hot dog was a little burned at the ends. Wouldn't eat there again. read more

Rented a large car bike this afternoon and asked if they would honor a veteran discount using my drivers license (marked veteran) as I did not bring my Veteran ID with me. The gentleman working behind the counter was extremely rude and sarcastic saying I could get a fake ID like that anywhere. Jokingly, I asked him where his military ID was? He quickly pointed to the pictures behind him saying that his Dad owns the shop and was a green berets. He then started questioning if I served in Afghanistan and scoffed when I said I had not. He smuggly said "give her $5 off and you know what keep the bike an extra 20 minutes" at which point I was like "ohhhh you want to help me out even though I didn't serve in Afghanistan?" He replied, "you're a vet, you should be able to take it." I laughed and said, "Yeah I definitely can." My friends and I rode the bike and had a good time, making sure to bring it back early. I got my ID, paid the $5 discount back, and let the same gentleman know I would be leaving a negative review. He said, "Sweet!" And put the money in the tip jar. Customer service tip: politely decline to give a discount without proper identification. FYI: the US military has fought wars in multiple countries other than Afghanistan over the last several decades, but defending my service to our country to some kid for a $5 discount is not why I enlisted. read more

What an amazing place! We stopped here to grab a quick snack while we enjoyed the sunset on Huntington Beach. The food is perfect beach food, and super quick service. We also went into the store to buy a towel to sit on, and the store was packed with anything and everything we could ever need! When checking out, we met the owner, Mike. What a great guy! He is so down to Earth and friendly and told us all about how he fought in the Vietnam war and started his business. He also gave us great tips and told us the best way to spend our evening on the beach. The whole vibe of the place is very laid-back and relaxing, and Mr. Zack has truly created a special and memorable place right on the beach. Rude and racist! My sister, daughter and I reserved E-bikes to rent for an hour. When we showed up the owner, Mike Ali, looked at my drivers license, saw that I lived in Westminster and started questioning if the city had been overtaken by all the Vietnamese people and their cars. Asked if there are any white people left here. I was so taken back by this conversation that I really didn't know how to answer. I didn't want to start a fight so I tried to remain polite. We then went and got fitted for our bikes. The older gentleman who helped us was extremely rude!! He started saying he couldn't fit my sister who is 4'10" and my daughter who's is 4'11" and that the bikes had height restrictions, however, height requirements were never mentioned during the reservations. I was also carrying a backpack and he took it from me and tossed it aggressively aside and said you don't need this. I was trying to remain calm and not fight back but then I dropped my phone and he purposefully came over and stepped on it. I made a comment about him stepping on it, but he continued to ignore me. He then accused us of not paying attention. I spoke back sharply with him and then he finally changed his attitude. The bike he gave my sister would hardly even run and she ended up peddling most of the way. As a local, I will never be back to this business, and I will never refer any friends or family to this business! It makes me feel very shameful for our town to know that such people with hatred still exist. read more

Rented bikes (beach cruisers) here in January & met the owner! He & the team were wonderful! Bikes were in excellent condition & seem to be serviced often. They have a huge variety to pick from to really showcase your personality. It was a super quick process both to rent & to return. We rented the bikes for 1 hour & it was so fun. Good experience overall at zacks hb. I went here on a Saturday afternoon looking for bike rentals and this place offered great service and provided a variety of bikes to rent. It's located right next to the hb pier and on the boardwalk. It makes it easy to rent and get going on the trails. First thing is that zack the owner is extremely friendly and you can tell he loves his job and has been there forever. My family decided to rent a tandem bikes since we brought our niece and nephew. It's tough going up hills and you can tell from all the salty air, sand and being old, the bikes aren't really smooth. I prefer to rent ebikes since you can pedal and use throttle. They also have a table area that you can enjoy snacks, food and drinks after a ride read more
