Happy 600th Review! Like my husband (who is obviously beating me in reviews) I like to pick special…read moreplaces for milestone reviews. And our home church is a special place. After we got married, my husband and I went church "hopping" to try to find a place that we both felt at home. After visiting multiple churches, we came to FCF and immediately felt comfortable and welcomed. But most important, the sermons were biblical and on point. Pastor Steve does an excellent job of keeping the congregation engaged, but also delivering truth. We have gotten involved with a couple of different Life Groups (small groups) and have found those to be a place to get to know others. Would highly recommend visiting this church! There are satellite campuses in Springville and Pell City if that's closer to you. And during the COvID-19 pandemic, live streaming is the way to go!

We had been looking for a new church home for a while, and came here based on a friend's recommendation. They are very welcoming, with greeters at every door. They have free coffee and breakfast, for those who are stumbling in late. Guests will be given free CFA sandwich coupons. They have modern and traditional worship services. Two services every Sunday morning. Since they are a bigger church, they have small group sessions of all kinds so that way people will feel a part of the church and get to know other congregation members. They preach the word faithfully to the Bible and I'm so glad we found a place to grow closer to God and get plugged into our community.

Finding a good church can be very difficult these days, especially if you want one that teaches the…read morewhole truth and not some watered down version that makes you feel good about yourself with no expectation of actually living like Christ. A2 has become our family. The pastor is humble (a rarity these days), and treats people as equals not as his subjects under his rule. The people we have met have been genuine and kind and accepting. There is a marriage ministry that offers several get-togethers each year from dinners to conferences to one day marriage seminars. The men meet for breakfast and Bible study once a month. There was a women's ministry for a time that ended up falling apart, but it is in the heart of many to rebuild it. I know this will happen it just hasn't yet. The youth meets every week on Wednesday nights and the youth pastor is a great man who is humble, kind, loves the Lord and loves the kids he serves. Our children's ministers are wonderful women who are passionate about teaching the littles how to love God and worship Him. It's not just glorified babysitting. It's Christ-centered truth teaching based on the Bible. There is a dedicated prayer team that meets every Wednesday morning to pray over the church's needs, and beautiful, amazing things happen in those meetings. We also have A2U which offers Bible study on topics such as Old Testament Theology, the Trinity, evangelism, and others. Sometimes there's a cost if there is a book involved that needs to be purchased, otherwise the class is free. God is doing wonderful things at A2 and more is happening beginning this fall. Some hard things: we are a mostly white church that has mostly "white music." We do not sing gospel songs or hymns, though sometimes hymns are thrown in as led by the Spirit because they minister in a way that is beautiful. We do have other ethnicities attend and there are conversations happening as to how to make them feel more included. However, we are about Jesus, not personal preference. We do not cater to the individual. We cater to the Lord. If you're looking for a church to be all you want it to be, you'll never find the "right" church. If you think church is about you and filling you up with good feelings, A2 is not it. We address sin and hard things and strive to work out our salvation with fear and trembling together. We love God, and we love His people, but we are not perfect. We desire to grow in Christ and to live holy lives. Come as you are but don't expect to stay that way. Jesus died to change us into His image. He did not die so we can get out of hell for free and continue to live sinful lives. Come and check it out!

I seriously cannot say enough about a2 Church. For the past three years, this church has become as…read moremuch as a home to me as my actual home. I found out about a2 from a friend and attended my first service in December of 2013. First of all, a2 Church is a non-denominational church. The atmosphere here is relaxing and welcoming. When you first walk in, you will be greeted by several greeters at the front entrance to the church. Once you enter the lobby, you'll likely be greeted again and can find many families and friends standing and talking, waiting for service to start. If you are new and have kids, a greeter will point you to the kid's room and nursery (students age 6th-12th grade join the adults in the main room). Service times are 9:00 and 10:45. A typical service will look a bit like this. Service kicks off with about 20-25 minutes of worship with a high energy, live band that will play 3-4 songs varying from upbeat and fast, to slower songs. Worship is followed by a 30-40 minute "sermon." For anyone who dreads this part of church, I can tell you that you'll never know what you are going to get, but it won't be boring. Often times, the message will incorporate live art, illustrations, or involvement from the body. You'll be sure to laugh at any given point of the message as the lead pastor is quite comical and can laugh at himself. Service wraps up with the band coming back unto the stage to play another low temp song as prayer teams spread across the stage for an opportunity for the body to receive prayer from partners. So what do you wear to church? Literally anything! Casual dress is perfect. You'll see several guys and girls wearing jeans, t-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops on a Sunday. We don't discriminate here, as long as you are wearing SOMETHING! Looking for a place to plug in? This is the perfect place for anyone, but more specifically young adults. I was 23 when I first started coming and I was in search for a small group to join. I found just that and made friends instantly. No matter what you enjoy, you'll find a small group that fits for you. Oh, and it's not your typical "sit in a class room and read Bible passages" small group. Small groups range from, young married groups and women's group, to ultimate frisbee groups and men's grilling and chilling groups. We love community and want it to be live giving and fun! In long (because this review is far from short), I love this place! For the first time since I was involved in my church youth group as a high schooler, I have found a place where I belong. a2 Church is my life and I wouldn't have it any other way. It also doesn't hurt that I met my soon-to-be husband here! :)

The Worship Center - Derby Campus…read more This review is coming from a pastor. First of all, Bishop Van Moody is an absolutely awesome man of God. He is an excellent preacher and teacher, and he clearly has a real heart and compassion for people. He is also very strong in the area of leadership and business, which gives the church a powerful balance of ministry and practical impact. The Worship Center at the Derby Campus is very family oriented and the facilities are very nice. The praise and worship is excellent, and the overall atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of life. The campus pastor is also doing an awesome job, and you can tell there is strong leadership throughout the church. What really stands out is what they do for kids and families. The programming is strong, and it feels like a place where people at every stage can grow and be supported. Beyond that, they also care deeply about the community. Whether it is through the church itself or through their community development corporation, if there is something they can do to help uplift people, they do it. If you live in Birmingham or anywhere in this area, I would absolutely encourage you to visit their website, drop in for a service, and see it for yourself. This is a great church to visit and a great church family to be part of. Five stars.
