The church is beautiful and the youth controlled the program and all went well. Their choir was great and their pastor was welcoming and inviting. Our pastor delivered a masterful message. After service we went downstairs for dinner and was reminded of the historical impact concerning the bombing and loss of the four little girls. There was a lot of history in that room. Dinner was good too.

I grew up there because it was a compromise between my Catholic mother and Presbyterian father. Worked out well for me. If you are a lawyer who practices downtown, you should probably become a member - for some reason, ex-lawyers seem to be half of the Episcopal priesthood. But it makes them good speakers, which makes sermons worthwhile. The Church has been very good to my family, when my kids were born, when my mother died, and now that my father is homebound. They are a good group of folks, and I really appreciate them. The Church is also associated with the Advent Episcopal School for 4K-8th grade, which is where my kids go. It is very large and takes up an entire city block. I loved this church.. History I found out about it on the internet: he Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama, is the mother church of the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama. On March 30, 1983, the structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Episcopal Church of the Advent The parish church of the Advent was established in 1872, one year after the founding of the city of Birmingham, and was one of the first churches built in the new city. The first building on this site was completed in 1873, but was soon destroyed by fire. The current structure, was occupied in 1883 with the tower and portico undergoing construction until 1885. The Cathedral is known for its historical location on Twentieth Street near Linn Park, as well as for the reputation of its music program. It was not until 1982, that the Church of the Advent became a cathedral, when the Diocese of Alabama selected the church as its seat The congregation undertook a major project to preserve the sandstone exterior of the Cathedral between 1999 and 2005. During this same period the Rector's Garden was redesigned to improve drainage and accommodate a columbarium and the belltower was refitted for a carillon of fifteen bells, cast by Fonderie Paccard of Lac d'Annecy, France. We went to the side of the devotional shrine of our Lady of childbirth with saints painting and visited the beautiful chapel within the church. I wish I could have done Mass and confession but I couldn't make it on time.

The collection of Saint relics here is phenomenal. It is well displayed for all to venerate. The stained glass, the sculptures, and the altar all glorify God in the highest way. Fr. Jerabek and Fr. Adams are serious about celebrating the the Sacrifice of the Mass in a reverent way. The attached Cathedral Life Center is vibrant with activity. Follow their active FB page for updates on events. The Cathedral is currently hosting Catholic Kids Week - essentially a weeklong summer program for kids. The courtyard contains a fountain with koi and goldfish and also houses space for a playground. The grounds are very well kept. The Catholic community is very much alive in Birmingham. All have been so lovely and welcoming. They really epitomize the saying, "A stranger is just a friend you have not met yet..."

Singing occurs for about half and hour before the sermon begins. Everyone is really friendly, and very well kept facility. Heard about this church by my friends who raves about this place. Although this is my first time her, I'm slightly biased to my home church, however I'm intrigued by what this church has to offer. Keep up the great guys. The employees at the front desk couldn't have been nicer. They put my group and I on 7-day trials and made us feel welcomed. We played a lot of pickle ball and they were always friendly and helpful. The gym area has a lot of equipment and was always clean. Looking forward to going back next time I'm in town.

I was a child, we ate together, visited their homes, put up hogs together, shared meat too. One couple kept me and my brother when mom was so sick. We called one couple Dad & Sue, we loved their children too. So to say go back to pickin cotton, there are machines that do that now. I love my childhood memories and black friends.​
