It's also near John's Pass Village & Boardwalk. We came to rent paddle boards and they gave us a rate of $15 for two hours! We discovered them on groupon so I don't remember if it was a special rate or not. They told us that they weren't too strict on time and if we went a little over, it'd be okay. And if they needed them to rent to new people, they would flag us down. Very nice people. All you do is go into their shop, which is also full of cool merchandise, and pay for the rental. You then get access to a FREE parking lot and they'll drive the paddle boards to the beach. This was my first paddle boarding experience and it was awesome thanks to these guys!

My sisters and I went in together to get a group windsurfing lesson for the dudes in our life. For just $110 each our group of 4 boys were able to spend a little over 3 hours with private instruction from a pair of genuinely just super cool people. Not to mention talented. They seriously made it look so easy. Every single one of them was able to get up on the board and actually sail! I was so impressed by how much they were able to learn so quickly. For 4 people they had 2 boards that they took turns on. Which meant each of them had plenty of time for practice and fun. They also got valuable Q+A time with the instructors. I loved getting to watch my husband learn this new skill! So grateful this company made it so easy to treat him to a fun a prize. If you're an onlooker, it's not the most ~glam~ area to relax in, but watching is possible! If you can bring a chair, a cooler, and a good book, I'd highly recommend it. Something to note is that finding the "launch spot" is a leeeeeetle tricky! You'll definitely want to look it up on a map before going, and having a good navigator with you might help too.

I came across Charter Finders and saw they were veteran owned. I contacted them via telephone, they answered all of my questions, and were extremely polite. They offer a discount for veterans and first responders which was nice and was a draw for us. We knew we were likely in good hands. The boat leaves from Sea Dog Brewery which was great for grabbing drinks to go and bring with! They make a good seltzer FYI. Dean and Tim had a cooler with ice on board where you could throw your own booze. There were only 6 other people on board and it made for a much better experience. We made friends and just sat back and relaxed. We were able to see dolphins up close on the way to shell key island and back. (See attached photo) Once we were at shell key advice was provided as to where to find shells. Some of us had high success. We were unable to snorkel due to visibility. The island is beautiful and not populated. The trip was roughly 3 hours long, but they were nice enough to extend it an hour so we got very very lucky. We highly recommend Dean & Tim and cannot wait to go again in the future.

However, the boat itself was older and showed quite a bit of wear and tear. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the experience overall. Our kids were especially excited about snorkeling and finding seas shells but when we arrived at Shell Key island, it was so crowded that the boat wasn't able to dock anywhere. The captain took us to a different location, but the snorkeling there was very poor, and we were only able to stay about 45 minutes because our time was almost up. Overall, the trip did not meet our expectations. I wish I would have done a little more research and booked with a different company.

Beach umbrellas are a real deal right now, less than the typical price leader of the beach stores, Wings. Other than that though... The store is smaller than the typical Surf Style store and downsizing has not gone well. Rather than reduce quantities of everything, it appears entire product lines are missing. For example, if shopping for a man's swimsuit they are about all the same except for color. Which means you could have any color of knee length swimsuit you want. Yes, that is the predominant style but there are still lots of men who would want something smaller. A sign on the building claims the biggest selection of women's mix and match swimwear. Well, there isn't all that much of it and it's more mix than match. I don't know if the display was created by someone who is pattern and colorblind or they bought some factory leftovers and then shuffled them. Buy some of the bargain priced beach umbrellas while you're there, and go somewhere else for the rest of your beach supply needs.
