Be aware. You will be able to get a much better rate with online insurance companies. I asked for years for a better rate and got nothing back. I now am saving almost half of what I paid with EW Smith and have a better policy. The reviews regarding cancellation with them are very true as well. Not great customer service. read more

I had an excellent experience with this agency's Shelby Township location, local to me. My agent Adam Johnson was very attentive and intuitive to my needs. I was in the market recently for a new auto and home insurance policy. Now everyone's mileage may vary of course, but Adam did a thorough and detailed job in applying the best possible group discounts and other fine tuned tweaks to get me the most competitive auto premium on a good solid policy. He beat my next best quote by a couple hundred bucks annually for auto. For homeowner's insurance, which is usually cheaper when bundled with auto and the same company, he did even better. I was being gouged by my previous company that took me for granted, and Adam got me a policy that was a whopping $650 less annually! This was approx a 55% drop in my HOI. That is so significant that I am expecting my mortgage payment to drop by around $40-$50 per month since my escrow for HOI & Tax is paid with the mortgage. Excellent work. Of course some of these savings are also because I am a good driver and insurance companies are aggressively competitive to get new customers. I may have to make calls and pull strings annually to minimize upward hikes in my price. But that being said, Adam did a wonderful job. Most of our work was a handful of phone calls, emails, and just one visit to his agency to meet for 10-15 minutes and sign the final papers. Lot of the HOI policy change happens in the background since the insurance contacts the mortgage lender on the customer's behalf. Adam was very patient and hard working for me, and my savings really worked out. YMMV. And I am a needy customer always calling, emailing, and asking questions. He was patient with all that and did a fantastic job. Two thumbs up! read more

When you open a policy with them they are great, but when you cancel its a completely different experience! Basically the worst customer service I've ever experienced! I cancelled my insurance and a month later they are still withdrawing the premium from my account. When I contacted and asked for a phone call I get an email apologizing and no phone call. A week later I still haven't gotten my refund and I emailed back and get told I should get it in about a week and a half... What?!? When I asked for a manager I was told they are all in charge of their own accounts... No manager. Would never recommend this place! read more

I would strongly recommend finding insurance at another company. Had very poor customer service to resolve being over billed. I never had a claim against them and my policy doubled in price with no notification from them until the money was missing from my direct withdrawal. Agents are suppose to look out for their customers. Tried to work things out with no resolve. I had to cancel and found better rates elsewhere. read more
