I so badly wanted to give this place five stars but my last experience just left me so disappointed! First of all, I have been there a few times for a massages and eyebrow sugaring. The first time I had a massage and eyebrow sugaring I had Amanda. Amanda is a gift from the spa gods. She is friendly, professional, and is so wonderfully good at what she does that I would pay double just get an appointment with her. When I kept calling in trying to get Amanda, she was always booked, but they kept referring me to a girl named Sue. Sue seems aloof and although she is quite a bit older than Amanda, I'm not exactly sure she knew what she was doing. The first time I had Sue for a massage, it was a bizarre experience. I had an hour long massage and at the end of the hour, I heard Sue mumble something and just walk out of the room. I was left there on the table, and only when I looked at the clock did I realize the massage was over. The massage itself was satisfactory and I love the professional and soothing massage rooms! Yesterday, I went in for en eyebrow appointment and a pedicure. I told Sue that I had very sensitive skin. The top of my eyebrows are now itchy, red, blotchy, and have large, red bumps that I did not get when Amanda did my eyebrows. Every other salon and spa that I have gone too since getting my eyebrows done in the past ten years have always immediately place a hand on the place where they had just ripped the wax off because it keeps it from being too painful. Sue did not do this, until I asked her too which I thought was just a basic thing that salon techs were expected to know. I was wrong. Onto the pedicure that I had: after a very long day at work, I was so glad to be able to zone out. The foot massage was fantastic and she did a nice job of removing built up calluses. However, the polish was chipped by this morning and of the nail polishes available, there were less than five professional quality polishes. The rest where the Sinful Colors, the cheap brand from Walmart mixed in with stuff from Sally Hansen and L'Oreal. It was more like raiding your sister's nail polish stash than visiting a professional salon. Overall, I love the environment and the services but this place would be an easy five stars if Amanda is your only option. UPDATE ON 8/21/2014 I had to give this business one star, sadly because two days after my waxing appointment, my eyebrows are itchy, red, and have broken out in irritated bumps. Looking back at the appointment, she did not cleanse the area to be waxed before hand (a common thing most salons do to prevent ingrown hairs, and the same reaction I go), she did not trim my brows so I had to do the best I could at my own home. I also noticed a small strip of hair that she missed, and my eyebrows are woefully uneven. Such an unpleasant experience. Overall: I would go back to Amanda, but I'm even hesitant to step foot anywhere near the place because I don't know if my skin will forgive me. read more

Nicely tucked away on the west side of town, Park Hills Spa is a find for Charleston and Mattoon residents looking for a beautiful spot for a massage, among a full spectrum of services. I have high expectations for the "spa experience" and Park Hills did not disappoint. The rooms were appropriately dimmed, soothing music played, and the staff perfectly professional. For massage, you will be given the choice of your level of undress; however, I'd suggest that fully disrobed would likely not be uncomfortable for even the novice to massage therapy because such care is taken to maintain your comfort and privacy. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing; the prices reasonable. Sue, in particular, is a gifted massage therapist whom I unreservedly recommend. I could very easily become addicted to the full body Swedish massage. The area designated for personal waxing is very brightly-lit and reminds me less of the "spa experience" than an emergency room (curtains between chairs, rather than a private room), however, I have not used those services to date. read more

Quiet, comfortable location. Nice people. EXCELLENT massage. I saw Sue and I thought she was great. I was able to get a quick appointment, which is important if I feel a migraine coming on. I will definitely go back. I wish they had more weekend hours. read more

Where do I start??? I chose this spa do to it being in combination with chiropractic profession thinking massages would have a therapeutic flavor. Far from the truth in my opinion. I am a licenced massage therapist from ny and this is the first place I have ever been to that had no intake process written or verbal. My "therapist" Sue started late, ordered me to strip to my underwear, put my clothes on the chair and lay face down on the table. I had to stop her from rushing out the door and ask first what type of massage she was planning to give me as no one asked at the time of appointment. After informing me I would recieve a mix of sweedish and deep tissue I again had to stop her to give her my health history as it creates need for alteration where massage is concerned. She seemed very confused by this information. I was shocked to hear she had 14 yrs experience because I asked her to focus her deep tissue work on my mid traps and rhomboids which resulted in the major part of her efforts on the middle section of my upper traps. Poor execution of even the most basic techniques coupled with choppy flow and a very abrupt end to the session left me exiting dripping with oil and learning just what not to do EVER for any clients I see. This is the only review I have ever felt the need to leave as I am a glass half full kind of person but, if you're looking to relax beware. It was a long hour...... read more
