Evolution Digital Marketing was founded in 2013, but the work started years earlier around the kitchen table. Before there was an agency, Steve Erickson was quietly running SEO for a handful of family businesses, learning the craft the way it should be learned: on real companies, with real payroll riding on the results. No theory. No client to hide behind. If the phone didn't ring, everyone at the next family dinner knew.
Those years taught him what most marketers never get to see up close: how a single page can change a small company's month, and how fast Google can take it away. He kept refining the approach until other owners started asking who was doing their marketing.
In 2013, Steve made it official and launched the agency out of Winnipeg. The name was deliberate. Search doesn't hold still, and neither does the work: from directories to local packs to answer engines and AI-generated recommendations. Evolution was built to keep pace with whatever comes next, and it still is.
Meet the Business Owner: Steve E.
Steve Erickson is the founder of Evolution Digital Marketing and has spent 15+ years in digital marketing — long enough to watch search reinvent itself several times. He built his craft on semantic SEO, entity optimization, and programmatic content, and he was an early adopter of AI inside his own business, wiring it into research, content production, and campaign workflows years before most agencies took it seriously.
That curiosity has taken him a long way from Winnipeg. He has travelled to the Chiang Mai SEO Conference three times to learn directly from the operators pushing the field forward, and he trains continuously on every new AI search system as it launches — ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot.
Today, he applies that experience to a single question for his clients: when a buyer asks an AI which business to hire, does your name come up? He builds the entity signals, structured data, and citation footprint that make sure it does.
