I was in a really tough bind and Jo Biel helped me out of it. I'm the landlord of a 95 year old tenant with dementia, and she was on the verge of losing her housing voucher. She needed to the annual certification with the SF Housing Authority by providing two simple documents - copy of a bank statement and pension statement. I recently purchased a property in SF and the tenant was paying approx $1250. She was on section 8. Market section 8 rent for that unit was almost double that. People told me that I could not increase the rent because of the rules in San Francisco. I spoke with an attorney about my options and he referred me to Eviction Assistance. On our initial meeting, we explained that we wanted to work out an agreement with our long term tenant rather than perform an Ellis Act or Owner Move In eviction. I regret hiring them. After paying the hiring deposit, surprisingly, I was not able to get a hold of them regarding new information on the case. Numerous phone calls, voicemails, and emails were sent, but somehow they were not receiving them. They blamed Comcast for the problem and said their technician was there to fix the internet that day. I called another day and same thing happens. No answer and no email reply. This went on for weeks but was usually able to get a hold of someone after 2-3 days of continuously calling (emails never get answered - better call Comcast again!).
