More than once i seen residents lay on the floor begging - yes BEGGING for help with alarms going off, and staff sitting 50 feet away in the lunch room. when I asked why no one was responding to the alarm and cries for help, the staff just said that its ___'s job and she is on her break. (you gotta be kidding!) My mom complained of rude aids who treated her like she was an inconvenience and waiting sometimes 15 minutes after pulling the emergency cord before someone came to help her. And i've talked to many people who said they that thefts were common. jewelry, pocketbooks, scarves, perfume, (anything of value). Management does not address concerns, they don't care, they deny the thefts, deliberately cut corners. They don't even have enough flatware because they are to cheap to replace the ones that get lost. Head of nursing does not know what is going on and seems to supervise remotely from a distance. Appledorn admits a resident then claims that the person needs more and more care jacking up the rates but that same person requires less care somewheres else. There are some really nice aids working there. It ain't all their fault, but how do you trust someone who steals from old people? For the money that place takes in at the expense of the very elderly and infirmed, its criminal that they provide inadequate care.

She fell and was on the floor for over an hour until my dad managed to get someone to come help. The staff then blamed my father for her falling. Crazy. I found her food tray upside down on her bed (she couldn't feed herself) with the food on the floor. Rather than cleaning up the mess, the staff walked on it grinding it into the carpet. The evening care workers were disinterested, abrupt, and most unfriendly towards mom. When she cried out in pain from their moving her, she was threatened by the staff with restraining devices. My dad and I were quite disappointed that we chose that place for her. I could not in good conscience recommend this for a parent. My father wept daily that he had placed her there. She passed three weeks later. Finally, there is a credit on mom's account, and the staff seems to refuse to receive my calls or relay messages to discuss the matter. Mom had been under home health care workers for the prior 7 months and the care was astonishingly different. At $6,000 dollars per month plus a $1500 dollar fee, it sure is a great money-maker, but a typical big-business system of assembly-line care. If you truly care for your loved one, you will do more research. Try small group house care. Much cheaper and 100% better care.
