For nearly $80/ month, or just under a grand a year, you would think you might get some kind of…read more'service'; instead what you get is an automated truck that drives across the edge of your lawn grabs the bin and unloads it into the truck and then chucks it back down wherever. Sometimes this is in the road, sometimes this is on the ground, but most often it is with the lid open to collect rain and snow and make it impossible to haul back up the driveway. Their rates have gone up 3 times in the 2 years that I have had them and the 'service', or lack thereof, has only gotten worse and worse. Throw in 3 times now that somehow my account has been taken off of automatic payment with no phone call, email, or text; and they have charged me a late fee for "being past due" on a month and I am just about ready to just take the trash myself to the Lebanon transfer station. Some math to think about: Trash + Recycling service for Meriden Rd in Lebanon, NH = $80/month I usually have 2 bags of trash per week and 1 bag of recycling. $20/3 bags = $6.65 per bag Lebanon Transfer station punch card = $15 = 10 punches 1 bag of trash = 1 punch = $1.50 per bag 2 bags(since recycling is free) x 1punch = 2 punches per week x 4 weeks = 8 punches per month. $15/10 punches x 8 punches per month = $12 per month So basically Casella charges $68/month (or $815/year) to save you a trip to the dump every week. Getting tough to justify....

Three strikes; they're out…read more This is my third try with Casella and they continue to disappoint. There always seems to be a card/billing problem, they raise their rates continuously, and if they don't like what is in my trash bin they won't take it. The final straw was another account issue. The agent who originally set up my account didn't set up the auto-billing. She only took the initial payment. For three months I thought it was automatic. Finally, when they cut off my trash service, I opened up one of the monthly statements they sent. I noticed a huge balance, and three unpaid months, much to my annoyed surprised. I thought perhaps the credit card number changed and I never updated it (from yet another breach event). I decided to make the dreaded 'customer service' call. I was transferred to Amy (a 'senior' rep). I explained I had no idea that it was NOT set up for autopayment and that I don't normally open my mail (what's the point). Usually, everyone just automatically takes my money every month. I explained that I have not had a pickup for six weeks. I explained that I missed putting it out one of the weeks, but I chose not to call CS and just took the loss. They never called; never emailed about any of this. I did find out they put my account on a service stop on October 14th. Fine, but they are trying to charge me for the entire month. Not fine. Now, back to Amy. I started the call in a calm place and was very matter of fact. I was trying to give them money ($150), which would require 1/2 of October's bill to be removed for no service provided. That's it! From the beginning of the call, Amy was a complete b!&th--period. Her tone was just nasty. I continued being calm the whole time, never being inappropriate, but I did get a little stronger with my messaging. According to Amy, it was basically my fault, my problem, their money. Not once did she ratchet down her nastiness--it just escalated. At that point, I asked for the manager. She came back and said 'no one was available' and that the manager would only tell me exactly what she already told me. That annoyed me even more. I explained that I didn't want to talk about the bill and that I really don't care about it at this point. I told Amy that I wanted to speak to the manager about her rude tone from the beginning--period. I asked for a callback which provided nothing but a non-committal response. I went on to explain how rude I thought she was and that it wasn't about her voice--it was the tone. She just didn't get it. I thought to myself, "Really?!" A couple of other things were said. Then, I thought I heard her laughing and I asked why she was laughing. She said she wasn't; she was crying. She explained it was the worst phone call she has ever received. I was taken aback. I never yelled. I never swore. I implied that her tone was that of a raving 'b', but never said it. I did say "I am trying to give you money and that you are treating me like this. That I am being honest here and trying to resolve the issue". Because 'I' was so awful, she explained to me that she was ending the call. I said, "Fine". (click) I immediately went online and paid $128 (awaiting a partial credit for October). So, she can play the nasty card the entire time until she is called out...then she uses the ultimate trump card. The good ole 'crying card'. I should have predicted that one. Please, I beg you, don't use Casella. The trash services scene is such a monopoly. Disgusting. *The blessing in all of this: www.NordicWaste.net. 603 442 0770 (weekly trash pickup & recycling for $44 and an additional service: WeRecycleFood.com) The guy comes in his pickup truck with a flatbed trailer. Recycling put into the truck bed and he literally picks up the trash can with his hands and empties it into his trailer. So old-school, impressive.

If someone is sick, they could close for the day. Otherwise, the times listed are correct. They ask to be there at least 15 min before closing. If you have a large quantity to be counted and show up close to closing, you may not get your cans and bottles counted that day. (Which to be honest, is reasonable. They have hours for a reason.) I mentioned that I was coming from the Windsor area and he mentioned there is one closer to me in Hartland and gave me the number if I wanted to contact them. (Hartland Redemption Center, 2590 North Hartland Road, White River Junction, VT, (802) 295-4900) Hope this is helpful to someone else. He was pleasant, helpful and didn't rush me off the phone.

It was 2:40, NOT 2:55! I operate a service oriented retail business, 26 years running. Even though I've felt frustrated on a slow Saturday to have someone show up a few minutes before closing, I've been there all day after all, I WOULD NEVER, EVER, EVER make a comment like that. The customer is my lifeblood, the reason I'm there. Even on my worst day, I'd never react to a customer the way I was "greeted" by theses guys. The next thing spoken by my "host" was a snide comment about one of the bags of returnables. It was a large garbage bag and had a majority of glass as opposed to aluminum. I have suffered from a severe shoulder injury and was struggling to lift the bag up onto the counter as a result. I was told that "if you can't pick up that bag, you shouldn't be bringing it in here!" Next thing, emptying a bag, it was discovered that a glass liquor bottle had broken, unbeknownst to me of course. I was now berated and told in a threatening way that "WE DON'T TAKE BROKEN BOTTLES!!" I would never intentionally try to return a broken bottle and obviously not expect that it could be returned. The response, the shitty attitude and general disdain shown me as a customer was inexcusable. If you gentlemen hate what you're doing, it shows. However, this is the business you've chosen. You earn a living by redeeming bottles and cans. There is obviously profit in it. Any business deserves dignity, any customer deserves respect. If you hate so much what you're doing, figure something else out. Otherwise, figure out some better customer service skills! UNBELIEVABLE! If you worked for me, it would be a very short career indeed! Disgusting customer experience.
