The last three times we've been to the (Gold Class) movies, part of our pre paid food order hasn't been delivered. Unfortunately each time it was part of the kids order and they are too polite to say anything until afterwards, when it's too late to rectify, so the money has been wasted. Gold Class is good, if expensive- seats are comfy, leg room is good. I always thought these cinemas were cool, located on the top level of the Myer Centre in the Brisbane CBD. It is actually one of the very few, non-Casino related, activities that you can do in the city at night (though from what I am aware they don't do hugely late screenings). The first time I ever came to see a movie here I became quite confused trying to work out how to get out, and ended up walking out of the carpark beneath the centre, though the second and subsequent times I have managed to work out the code that marks the floors on the elevator. They also have a bar, and one of the cinemas even allows you to take alcohol inside, which is something you don't find in many cinemas in Australia. read more

The top floor of the Myer Centre has always been an entertainment space. Believe it or not, it used to have a small roller coaster than ran circles around the top ledge. I was always a little scared of it. These days it's home to a video arcade called the Fun House that wraps around half the floor, and Event Cinema has the other half. As you're making your way up the four floors, you'll notice a drastic change as soon as you enter cinema territory. The cinema looks like something out of the Jetson's. The tiles on the floor are dark blue with white and silver sparkles which makes it seem like you're in space with stars under your feet and above. The candy bar is very kitsch, prim and proper and perfect. It's way too easy to pretend that you are Judy Jetson while in these surrounds. The more practical things to report are that an adult ticket will cost you $16.50. If you're a concession card holder, it's $13.50. Kids, $12.00. On Tuesdays, all tickets are $8.00. Event Cinema offers a lot of films in 3D, they have Gold Class as well as VMax. The Myer Centre branch also has 7 senstadiums, which generally just translates into a bigger, better experience. Bigger screens, bigger seats, all of that sort of business. You won't find your art house films here, they are strictly a mainstream sort of cinema, which is absolutely perfect if you're in the mood for watching some fluff on the big screen. If you're in the city, knackered from running errands or shopping or whatever, zip up to the third floor, grab yourself a ticket and a choc top, sit down and take a couple of hours to yourself. read more

I don't go to the movies enough. I watch telly all the time but I don't spend enough time at the movies. I went tonight and I remembered why I love it. Popcorn, comfy seats, huge drinks and a freaking massive screen. It's the only time where you're legitimately encouraged to consume food and drink solidly for two hours without talking to anyone. I was in cinema six this evening which I would say is one of their smaller screens, but the sound was perfect (no bouncing sound) and the picture was perfectly clear. Popcorn, a drink and a chocolates weren't overly expensive and I sat comfortably for almost two hours without getting a sore ass. All of the boxes ticked, really. read more

Saw a movie in the VMax theatre, was pleasantly surprised by the lovely spacious leather-look seating and size of the theatre itself. Tickets here are generally cheaper than in the suburbs - I guess because they factor in parking. Speaking of which, they'll validate you're after the film if you ask. Candy bar prices are as per usual however the candy-stripe ladies uniforms have got to go - they are appalling! This is the closest cinema to my residence, so it's my go-to. It's pretty comfortable and, like every movie theater in the world, is air conditioned to a level just above arctic winter. Can't really hold that against them, since they're all like that. One bone I do have to pick is the stupid assigned seats. I hate this so, so much. Why can't we just do this naturally, as people have since lights started flickering images against screens? The only time that makes sense is when there is premium seating, but the rest should be in the tried and true helter skelter method. A positive on this spot is its location at Myer and by the Q St mall. It's super easy to pre-dine or post-drink the flick. read more

Big cinema, fairly clean, large food selection. Yes, it's expensive but what cinema isn't? I find it cheaper to the Chermside shopping centre cinema. I like their candy stripe outfits, I think it's fun. Even though it's expensive I enjoy treating my self here and going on dates here. I also like the convenience of it being inside the shopping centre. Not having to travel elsewhere to go to the movies like South Bank. I prefer this one to the South Bank cinemas as it is less crowded. Usually when I go -in the afternoons or at night it is very quiet. read more

I love heading to the movies and the eVent Cinema at the Myer Centre is my local. I really like that I can book my tickets online and then jump the queue. I don't like that the ticket booth closes down after 6pm, but here is a hot top for you. You can still jump the queue, even when the ticket booth is not open, buy going to the front of the candy store and presenting your online confirmation! read more

Since the Regent Cinema was shut down and The Tribal theatre nearly experienced the same fate (and running less regular sessions now), there is a lot less choice for cinemas in the CBD. Unfortunately, this means that the rather big and obnoxious Myer Centre Event Cinema overtakes it all. Now don't get me wrong, I don't dislike this cinema. It is ok. I just lacks the ambiance, atmosphere and character of the others. It is like the big overbearing brother that shows mainly blockbusters at severely overblown prices. One of the redeeming qualities of this cinema is that it is one of the only ones in the area that plays Bollywood films. They will always have one running and you will find the Friday and Saturday night sessions of these pretty full. If you have no experienced a Bollywood (Hindi Cinema) film than I highly recommend you do. They are often long (up to 3 hours or so with an intermission), but full of songs and melodrama. It is nice that this cinema caters for a broader audience through showing these Indian Blockbusters along side Hollywood ones. Nonetheless, this is by no means my favourite cinema and one that I mainly go out to out of a lack of choice more than anything else. read more

I am somewhat ambivalent towards this place. I mean as an event cinema it fits the bill, stale popcorn + overpriced movie tickets + latest hollywood offerings on the showreels. But with prices these days going to the cinema as a family is a kind of a big deal and if you pay premium (That's over $10 a ticket) you expect something with a bit more bang for your buck. My last experience here included grumpy security guards, more kernels than popped corn, busted seats and really poor/indifferent service from the staff. Event you can keep your $20 ticket, I would much rather shlep over to the Southbank cineplex across the bridge. read more

Depending on the movie, I love watching movies in the cinema because of the surround sound and the huge screens! I came here recently to watch a film and was pleasantly surprised at how comfy and big the seats were. The seats are also wider than what I was use to so you have room to spread out and relax. I was in one of the smaller theaters but the overall sound was great. No glitches or anything, and I was kept captivated by the movie the entire time! The only thing is that tickets are a bit more expensive than I've seen at other places, but other than that, a decent place to watch the movies! read more

Event Cinema is disappointing to say the least. Every time I've been there there's been something scummy about the cinema; either the seats are covered in popcorn, the carpet is sticky, or there's rubbish stuffed into my drink holder. I try to avoid this cinema as often as I can because the ticket and food prices are phenomenal. Not to mention my friend used to work here and once found a teenage couple having sex on the ground. Not. Ideal. The only reason I come to this cinema is when I win free tickets to see a film; it's never by choice. That said, there are a few perks about Event Cinema. The first perk is that it's located in the heart of the city. And this is barely a perk in itself because it's only a five-minute bus or train ride to South Bank, where you can see movies for half price at the Cineplex. The second is that there's an arcade located on the top floor, but this is also depressing because if you're seeing a movie at night, the arcade is mostly empty. And the third, perhaps only legit perk, is that there are a few restaurants on the same level, so you can settle in for dinner either before or after your movie. read more
