A lovely English house with a tall garden. Next to the main road but set back enough and the double glazing means you don't hear it. V.nice.

I've stayed here at least 6 times in the last 15 years & the standard of accommodation is 1st rate as are the cooked breakfasts - just the job to set up a day's walking, cycling or driving around this delightful island! Carol & Paul Hallums run The Lodge & go beyond the call of duty to make guests feel welcome & help advise on local events or attractions. Well worth a visit! There's a bus stop close by - Vectis Buses run a reliable service across the island & a week's pass that includes the open-top tour buses costs £20 each with family tickets also available.

I LOVED this place! First off, this bed and breakfast REALLY is in a village--the kind you see in…read morethe movies! Harts Lane is so narrow, my partner hesitated pulling our car into the lane and then really had second thoughts about pulling into the tiny parking area. I was too busy loving everything I could see to care about that! Then, we walked into the bed and breakfast, where an out-of-breath Linda Smith greeted us warmly and apologized for not being ready. We didn't mind. After all, there were TWO pubs in one TINY village! ;) When we returned from our obligatory pub visit, Linda led us upstairs and to our room. Do you know how sometimes places look clean but don't smell clean? This clean room smelled GREAT! Then, I went into the bathroom. It was completely remodeled and very modern. I was in heaven! A quaint, clean bedroom with a clean modern shower! There was even a place for me to sit down in the bedroom and put on my makeup. I decided to use it for sitting down and reading a daily devotional, but just having this wonderful space was a plus. Did I mention there was a fireplace? The next morning, Linda cooked us "whatever we wanted." My partner happily ordered sausage and eggs, and I ordered bacon and eggs. While we waited, I looked around the family dining room. There were wonderful family pictures--Linda and Ian Smith's wedding pictures, their children, etc. My partner meanwhile marveled at his freshly squeezed orange juice and some of the woodwork in the room. Then, the food came. The bacon was the size of 4 American slices stuck together but a lot thicker. Everything was delicious, but after we ate, we felt like we needed a nap! If you go to this area of England, stay here! The Smiths are very congenial people, their accommodations are clean, their food is outstanding, and the village is picturesque. You'll swear you're in a movie.

The lady is so nice and accommodating. The breakfast is lovely. It starts as you would expect with choices of traditional English breakfast, but then goes far above with crepes, kipper, poached eggs. We had gotten to the point where we were going to backtrack to the last time we for sure knew where we were when all of a sudden my husband spotted a rare street sign, and we realized we had accidentally found the place. The owner had emailed me back in the States for our expected arrival time, and luckily we made it within our designated time frame. The B&B was small, but nicely maintained. I loved the bathroom - the skylight really brightened up the space. It was surprisingly quiet even though all the rooms are in close proximity. Our host explained that there would be a continental breakfast in the morning, and if we wanted something hot, we needed to make our selection the night before, so we each ordered the Full English Vegetarian Breakfast. Breakfast in the morning was efficient and hearty. The only downfall is that parking is very tight. We had to pull into the driveway because we weren't permitted to park on the street. This meant we were blocking in other cars, and we were blocked in ourselves when the last guests arrived. Luckily, no one needed to leave in a hurry!

Every square inch was spotless, and a private car park made it worth the safe and scenic 5-minute downhill walk to the town center. The hospitality was friendly, welcoming, personable, yet also professional. Huzzy and I agreed: we would come back to Bath just to stay here! The room was comfortable and beautiful- very classic in look. We had a great sleep on the bed, like I mentioned- comfortable room! Squeamish skip this paragraph... When I arrived in Bath I was deep into my trip and short on socks. The sock bag in my suitcase had reached critical mass and was going to be a new kind of 'Dirty Bomb'. When asked if the 139 had a washer and dryer, they said of course. They braved the bag. I got my socks back the next morning, folded. Thanks! Breakfast the next morning was wonderful- fresh eggs, great bacon, crunchy and chewy bread (ok so I'm not a food writer). Lots more options than a traditional eggs and bacon breakfast were available. Thanks 139 for a wonderful experience. It's been a couple years since we stayed, but the memory is fresh in my mind.

And yet, for $230 a night, checked into this dank, dark box that would give young Mister Potter's cupboard under the stairs a run for its money. One meager lamp that would barely shine any light on the space, and incredibly poor ventilation. Also, the hotel claims to offer secure luggage storage for guests and yet I returned to find an unattended lobby and guests' belongings just out in the open for anyone to grab or tamper with. When raising concerns with hotel, verbally and in writing, they offered nothing but slight platitudes and defensive rhetoric. Zero mindfulness of customer service. In short, avoid. Bath has much better to offer.
Great location in historical house by Pulteney Bridge…read more We stayed in a suite for a couple nights. The suite had two bedrooms, which was nice for a family, but being a Georgian house, there were quirks. The floors were very uneven, to the point that I would feel vertiginous walking around. The bathroom had uneven water pressure where the temperature fluctuated wildly, and there was not enough counter space for 4 people. There was a nice sitting room but definitely not enough closet space. However, the location is so lovely. It's about a block from the Pulteney Bridge and also a block from a full sized Waitrose. It's a short walk to the train station, Bath Abbey, and the Roman Baths. Staff is friendly and generally competent. The front desk staff was a little confused and slow, and, while the rooms were generally clean, I don't advise that guests look under the beds or behind the furniture, as those are very dusty (ick). I love that they leave biscuits to go with tea daily and that they actually replenish everything on a daily basis. Those biscuits were life savers for my jetlagged children whose stomachs were not yet on UK time. I contacted the hotel a couple times before we arrived. They were not able to help with arranging for a babysitter (they told me to Google "Bath" and "babysitter"), but they did give me good information about a wheelchair rental for my husband. I would consider returning here on a future visit.

Unfortunately, we had the worst night's sleep of our week long trip. I booked The Legacy Rose and Crown several months in advance of our trip, and when we checked in, we were told there was a party taking place that night. When we returned to our hotel after dinner and went up to our room, it seemed that we were located directly above the restaurant where the party was being held. Although the music was right in line with my tastes, we were really hoping for a good night's sleep since we had to be on the road at 7AM, but sleep wasn't to be had since the music continued until midnight. I pulled my ear plugs out of my bag and turned on a noise machine, but even that wasn't enough to block out the pounding bass. Honestly, the hotel should not have even rented room we were in on that date considering the noise below. If we had stayed at this hotel on a different night, I think our experience would have been much better - it's clean, pretty, and convenient to the cathedral and other sites. The staff was very friendly and gave us bagged lunches since we were checking out before breakfast. I wish I could leave a better review, but since the primary purpose of a hotel is to provide sleeping accommodations and we weren't able to get much sleep, two stars it is.

The cottage (we stayed in the Keeper's Cottage) included all the amentities you could want, such as comfy leather furniture, a dreamy superking comfy bed, good showers, and lovely original artwork by the owner in all of the rooms. Pretty, but not overdone at all. My partner was pleased that there were tv's and dvd players in all of the rooms and some DVD's were provided as well, along with games and loads of brochures offering ideas about what to do during our stay. Just as lovely as the inside, was the views from our personal gated patio. We looked over onto a quiet horse pasture which is known for featuring deer (though we didn't see any on our trip unfortunately). However, every morning when we woke up, a lovely dark brown rescue pony grazed just outside our bedroom window. Farm cats wandered by now and again, and fat curious chickens came for a visit every day as well. These were the same chickens who provided us with farm fresh eggs for breakfast. It was incredibly peaceful hearing the horses neighing across the field to one another or the owls hooting in the evenings. Just the sort of romantic get-away we had been craving. That being said, there's plenty of room in the cottage for groups too. However, if you opt to leave everyone else at home like we did, there is often a discount available for only using one of the two bathrooms and/or not using the extra bedroom. This isn't as central a location to the New Forest as lots of other cottage options, but you can't beat it for privacy and solitude. The owners seem like very kind people who seem to be up for a chat if we want one, but more than happy to leave us alone if we prefer it, which we respected. We loved that all the fixings for tea and/or coffee with yummy biscuits was waiting for us when we arrived. I can't say enough good things and we can't wait to go back again someday!
