The woman at the entrance was kind and helpful, though she spoke so softly my ADHD brain had to lean in like a detective--but her directions were spot on. Inside the main building, the art from Cuba was the star for me--bold, vibrant, full of life. Some of my absolute favorites were in the Cuban art section--each piece felt like it was humming with its own frequency. The geometric painting (the one drenched in deep reds, burnt oranges, and that sharp black hourglass shape) hit me first. It's bold, mathematical, yet somehow spiritual--like a coded message meant for anyone perceptive enough to catch it. Very "guardian-spirit-meets-mid-century-modern." I stood there longer than I expected. The giant ancient sloth? Unreal. I wish they'd place a modern-day sloth beside it, just so my brain could process the scale without glitching. The bug/kids section was unexpectedly adorable. The kids were living their best lives, and honestly, I was right there with them--zero shame. I did drive over to the second building for the "It's a Ship Show" exhibit, and okay... I see what they did with the title. At first glance I read it as "It's a Sht* Show," and for a split second I thought MOAS got sassy. The artwork leaned heavily into still life, and to me it felt more like pieces you'd find in an upscale lounge, a refined boutique hotel, or a polished restaurant--visually pleasing but not as emotionally stirring as the main gallery. Just my personal taste. I could've spent more time wandering around, but I was on a first date with someone who kept making me laugh. I felt like the loud kid in class trying to stay quiet in a museum. Overall, great value, memorable art, and a surprisingly fun atmosphere. I'd definitely go again--preferably when I'm not giggling through every exhibit.

We were greeted immediately and were told that our daily admission gave us a yearly membership. Yay us! The place was packed with presidential memorabilia, wax figures, and the most fabulous miniature model of the White House. There was even a cute video of pets that have lived in the White House. A raccoon? Seriously? That is hilarious. For me, I wish it wasn't so hot inside. It may have been that it was a cold and rainy January day when we visited. It would have been nicer if it wasn't as warm inside, though. 04.08.2025

**INITIAL REVIEW**…read more We Floridians know our state is known for being weird and quirky, more so than any other state out there. True other states might have events, locations, and history that may be fitting for Florida lore, but by sheer number of instances, Florida has it topped. It must be the fact Florida is the only state that can have three seasons at the same time affecting the denizens, consisting of prostitutes, drug lords, seriel killers, and protected persons in the WPP, into a cesspool of WTF! However, there are some "weird" Florida experiences and locales that may be simplistic, but surprisingly fun and educational. Enter the Presidents Hall of Fame in Clermont, FL. Just by its tacky appearance of a Lincoln Monument flanked by a Mount Rushmore, it seems like a roadside cash grab, but once you enter, you'll see this small(ish) museum is actually worth every bang of its buck, and has a lot to offer. Though an address is given, the Presidents Hall of Fame (which I will shorthand simply to Presidents HOF for the remainder of this review) is located right near Florida Citrus Tower, which was the highest point in Florida for like the longest time. Firstly the parking fits the area. Since the Presidesnts HOF is kinda of small(ish) and "off the beaten path of mainstream tourism," it is a decent-sized round of dirt. The Presidents HOF is a replica of the Lincoln Memorial with a small replica of Mount Rushmore on its eastside. Delightfully tacky, yet awesome at the same time. Upon entering, you'll be in the "registration room" and store. Tickets are $15 per person, but it should be noted that the admission is also an annual pass. So if you want to come back and enjoy this museum, you can as many times as you want within a calender year. The museum is divided up into two major rooms. The first room has a lot more "old history" of the United States of America. Artifacts, facts, and history from the early days of America, with the first presidents, are here including some artifacts owned by the George Washingtom, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. There are also numerous mannequins of the presidents and important figures around their time. Upon entering the biggest room, you'll get even more presidential history and lore as well as a large diorama of the White House in the middle of the room. Things from small wooden statues of presidents, clothes worn by the First Ladies, and even the design and decor of the Oval Office depending on which president was in charge are shown here. For me, the history of Marilyn Monroe and John F. Kennedy were of an interest to me. And of course the Presidents HOF has been updated with lore of our current president, #47 and former #45, President Donald Trump. I took a selfie with his mannequin. Ultimately, the Presidents HOF is a worthwhile small(ish) museum to visit given its price and what you can learn if you take the time to read and experience what they have. I get it, historical museums are not for everyone and the presentation may not be grand. However, I do not see these as flaws for this museum as they are more preference. Will I be back here? I could because of my annual pass, but I will only stop by if I am in the area. I live almost two hours away from the Presidents HOF, so it isn't exactly on top of my list of places to frequent. I will be honest and say that I only came by here, as this is my second time here, for Cache Odyssey. I geocaching, the Presidents HOF accepted the honor of hosting the Florida Cache Odyssey letterbox hybrid, in which all the states have their own letterbox hybrid of their own. For us geocaches, it is a challenge worth completing and for me, it was just the beginning. I guess it all fits because when I came here the first time with my dad, I wasn't a geocacher (which there are two in the area), I wasn't a letterboxer (which there are three i the area), and I was on hiatus from Yelp. It is fitting that I am now all three, thus this visit satisfies three of my hobbies. The places you go and the things you do when you are a Yelper!

Stepping into the Mount Dora Firehouse & Jail Museum feels like stepping back in time--and what an incredible trip it is! This little museum is bursting with charm, local history, and personality. Tucked away in a quiet corner of town, it's one of those hidden gems that you almost don't want to tell anyone about--but it's just too good to keep a secret. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm. The volunteer guide was an absolute treasure, full of fascinating stories and local lore. You could tell this place is run with heart and passion. They brought history to life--whether we were peeking into the old jail cells or checking out the vintage fire equipment (some of it dating back over 100 years!). Every nook is packed with Mount Dora's rich past--from the early days of the town's fire department to what it was like spending a night in the town jail (hint: not exactly luxury). It's immersive, quirky, and surprisingly educational in the best way. You don't need to be a history buff to enjoy it--this place makes learning fun and personal. Bonus points: it's super affordable, family-friendly, and a quick walk from all the cute downtown shops and cafés. If you're visiting Mount Dora, do not skip this museum. It's the kind of place that makes you fall in love with small towns all over again. 10/10 would "get arrested" again!

It was part of my Go City Explorer pass, which is a good deal if you want to hit up multiple random attractions and don't have a good idea of what to do. It's also slightly cheaper on Groupon if you're not from the area and want to buy individually. Parking is free in Icon Park's garage floors 4-7. It's an easy walk to the elevators to go down with a bunch of other tourists to walk through the park to near the center, where the Museum of Illusions is located. Along the way, you can get a nice photo op with the ferris wheel in the background. Once you walk in, you present your entry at the counter, and can begin walking through the exhibits on the left (the right side behind the counter is where you'll be exiting, beyond the few racks of merchandise). The walkthrough is pretty short - most of the wait is basically waiting on other people to clear out so you can take your own photos. We did everything in 45 minutes. There's not too much text to read, but sufficient enough for a basic understanding of how the illusions work. There are supposed to be a couple of guides waiting around to assist with photo-taking, but they were concentrated in one area, so for the most part it felt like we had to help ourselves. My favorite exhibits were the head on a platter, Ames room, and cloning table. Everything is still obviously a trick if you take another look at the photos. The reversed room could have been neat, but it doesn't account for gravity pull on fabric, so it only works if you have a shaved head and are wearing skin-tight clothes. The vortex tunnel is not too impressive - just more of an in-person dizzy balancing experience. The infinity room is pretty neat, though awkward when you're behind the camera. The entire experience would be a lot better if there were sensors that took photos for you, since taking the photo yourself negates some of the "magic" in the pictures. I also think they need better instructions for some rooms, since it sometimes took a few minutes to figure out what I should be looking at or doing. For a one-time experience, it's alright.
