Beware of this scam operation. They rented me a car with dozens of huge dents, scratches, and problems. I didn't care about the aesthetics, so fine with me - I took photos of the damage and rented the car. Then when I returned it, they said that there two tiny nicks that their representative didn't write down when I checked out (including a single dot on the ROOF, which I hadn't thought to photograph), and charged me 500 euros for "repair," which they will obviously not do - they will just charge the next customer who doesn't realize they're supposed to spend two hours writing down every single dent on their pre-dented rental. read more

ZERO stars. I reserved a midsize car but was told by the clerk that I had reserved a compact, so she upsold us a midsize (my traveling companions didn't want to argue, so I relented). We ended up paying twice as much and got a car that had 100 liters less cargo space than the one I reserved! And the car itself was atrocious. The list of dings and scratches had 46 items on it. 46!!! There was no way to verify all of them without delaying our trip for an hour. The result was that we got charged for damage that was almost certainly already there--a ding that caused a small piece to break off when all we did was close the tailgate! Ridiculous! The whole experience felt like Rent-a-Wreck. Never again will I deal with this company. NEVER. read more

Avoid Europcar Spain - Dishonest Practices Rented from Europcar in Spain and was assured by the pickup agent that all damage was already documented. At drop-off, a different agent conducted an excessive 30-minute inspection and blamed us for pre-existing scratches and missing tools from a hidden compartment--something no normal customer would ever check. We returned the car in perfect condition. This feels like a scam. Completely dishonest and predatory. Avoid at all costs. read more

Scammed by Europcar in Madrid. We rented from Europcar in Madrid for one day to go to Toledo, a drive of a little less than an hour. The agents at the counter suggested that we prepay for fuel, for a full tank, and that they would refund us the difference for the unused fuel. That policy surprised me, because it is different from the policy in the States. So we asked again to clarify, and the agents told us the same thing. So we prepaid $85 for a full tank. We only used a quarter tank, and expected a refund for the difference. But Europcar billed us for the full amount, with no credit. I complained to the company, but they told me that what the agents was false, and there is no credit when you prepay. Even though the agents lied to us and defrauded us, Europcar refuses to provide us with the credit. Stay away from this company, they are dishonest and scam customers! read more

Gayle and I rented a car in Spain for 9 days. We arranged the Reservation through Auto Europe and paid slightly less than $50 per day, which included basic and comprehensive insurance. That means a high Euro deductible and no real personal theft coverage. A GPS and putting Gayle on as the second driver were also extra. I declined all the extras, although in hindsight I would have changed my mind on the GPS. Also extra (of course) was gasoline and various Toll Roads/Tunnels that popped up here and there during our journeys. Europcar rented us a VW Golf, which had plenty of personal and luggage room, had good pep and acceleration, scored good gas mileage, and made driving a stick enjoyable again. The only time I was concerned about traffic was in the commercial areas of Andorra, although Gayle was sure that I was going to drive the car off the road in on narrow section above Pal in the Mountains. Our biggest complaint over the entire trip was that the CD Player didn't work. We brought music to pass the time (including our favourite - The Crazy Heart Soundtrack). Short of that, we occasionally listened to trashy Euro-Pop, got on each others nerves more when trying to navigate, but otherwise enjoyed each others company and conversation. We picked up the car at Atocha Station in Madrid. The Rental Desk is upstairs and it took awhile to figure out how to find where the car was on the level below and farther back. The folks here were cordial, but not particularly helpful in getting us on our way. Yet once we got in and the guy moved the vehicle that was blocking us, we were pleasantly surprised to discover how easy it was to get out of Town. I also appreciated the thorough pre-inspection they did, which identified every scratch and dent on this car. I figured from the description, that anything short of significant fender bender would go unnoticed when we returned the car. Luckily, we returned the car in better shape than we found it. read more

Be cautious of Europcar at the Madrid Airport in Spain. They accused me of damages in the amount of $396 dollars. They provided blurry pictures without time stamps and could NOT provide information such as the previous renters for the last 30 days. Stay away from this place!! We rented two vans for our group of 11 and they booked us the same van! It took over two hours for them to figure out how to solve the issue? How hard could it be to just find another van. We were trying to leave nice and early to visit a vineyard two hours away and they set us back big time. do not trust these people . Was offered a free upgrade and when the bill came they charged me 130 euros. Get everything in writing, take pictures and even a video. As in detail about the cost of the car and make them explain in front of the camera. The upfront payment you made is not what the final will be. Get it before you leave the drop off point they must provide you one better yet do not use them. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THESE CROOKS They will charge you for damages you did not do to the car. They will forget that you purchased maximum insurance. Their employees will be so overworked they will forget to do basic things like escort you to the car and check that all paperwork of existing scratches is correct. I rent a lot of cars. Do not use this rental car service they scammed us at the end of our trip in Madrid they charged us close to $1000 for a scratch on the rear bottom bumper that could be buffed out that we don't even remember hitting anything and to cut tires that they said were done meanwhile we know we didn't do it because we did not do any parallel parking the car sat mostly in my mother's driveway I know it wasn't done by us yet we would charge this money they will scam you I read other reviews written by people and basically they were complaining about the same thing If I could give them less than one star I would read more

I booked a car back in August to drive 8th September. I did it through Ryanair and got charged twice! One at booking £407 and again at time of rental (the correct amount) £270. I have been emailing and phoning for months. I got to the point where they acknowledged​ I had been charged twice for the same concept but never got a penny back and now they are not even acknowledging my communications. We didn't do anything to the car. We identified all of the dents before we left Toledo. We drove for 4 days. When we dropped it off at the airport at mid day, there was no one from the company there to do a walk around. When we did finally find someone thirty minutes later, she was agitated at us for asking her what to do. She said to just put the keys in the box. Now we get a message that say we own a lot in damages. So it looks like we'll be fighting this one for a while. And, like the pickpocket in Barcelona, it feels like we've been robbed. read more

Worst experience with regard to the business end of a car rental. Contract was in Spanish though they told me when I went to pick up the car they also had English contracts. Took deposit that they agreed to refund and never did. Came back to me two additional ties to collect ,more money from me 2 months after I dropped of the car. No description of the reason for the second charge. My credit card company is an accomplice about this they would not investigate my claims and paid Europcar an Additional $ 157.17 though the car had already been paid for through their booking Company RentalCars.com who were supposed to refund the deposit. Will Never, I mean never rent from them again or book any car through Rentalcars.com. It is now 5 months and nothing is resolved because none of these companies are doing business correctly. I rented car in St Petersburg, Russia using this company. Very unpleasant service. Worst experience ever! Read reviews all over the Internet! Ashtray was full of cigarette buts, terrible smell. Car all scratched badly. Headlamps all broken and not working.
