Bit of a difficult one to grade this time. Having been here a few years back for a work Christmas…read moredo, had another opportunity to return here for dinner with some colleagues. We specifically chose here due to my previous experience plus other reviews on here and elsewhere. The menu looked promising enough and it has a nice ambience, so we tried to book a table (online) for a specific time but could only get a reservation a little later. Didn't want to eat too late, but not the end of the world, so we thought the place would be busy with other diners... when we got there it was virtually empty. The staff were very friendly indeed, really cannot fault their service at all. However, the food we had can only be best described as average. It went down fine, but there was nothing really memorable about any of our meals. The food that came out was pretty much just what was stated on the menu i.e. a starter of scallops on a bed of chorizo, fried potatoes and salad was literally just that, nothing more. Similar for the mains: beef and ale pie with 'fat chips' turned out to be a pie with a basket of chips on the side that were out of a packet. I know it's being somewhat picky, but you would think a place like this would at least do their chips themselves. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding; as a STP afficionado, I have had a lot better elsewhere. Don't get us wrong, this wasn't a terrible meal by any means, we all just felt that there was something missing from this particular visit, which is why it's only 3* this time around. I will come back again, see if it was just a one-off, but I won't be hurrying back anytime soon. Food aside, I would recommend a trip the bar at the front of the place, had a nice feeling to it and a good range of drinks. Downstairs is a lovely private bar area, so it has potential for sure. Just can't quite put my finger on why it didn't really live up to expectations this time around.

Outdoor rowdies and hallway noise does come through. The room was warm even in may, open windows is the resolution to reduce heat. Bathroom: Plenty of hot water. Bathtub is the most comfortable one I have used! Lighting in the bathroom is poor. Room: Proper TV lounge area, very sizable. The doorman brought our luggage up and pointed out helpful things for our stay, what a nice treat! Breakfast: Not included but starts at 7-7:30 and only for guests. I would call it a high end buffet and hot breakfast cook to order combination. Reasonable prices, and so nice to have onsite. York doesn't wake up until 9am on Sundays, even Starbucks. The decor is neutral and elegant and if you book ahead, do ask for a table in the window overlooking the Minster. At night time, when it is all lit up, it is lovely and serene. The waiting staff are efficient, professional, welcoming, friendly and attentive and add to the overall enjoyment of the dining experience, without a doubt. They source local food and the quality is excellent and they will cater for special dietary requirements and do a special Coeliac Menu, which I think shows the level of attention that guests are afforded. We have dined here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and always leave with a warm glow! The breakfast buffet is very good. I had eggs benedict and the hollondaise sauce was perfection itself! Lunch and dinner are also superb; the menu is balanced, the food well cooked. The bar man is a real gem and very knowledgable with regards to wines and cocktails. Try this restaurant morning, noon or evening. You will not be disappointed. I would recommend it for corporate lunches, special family occasions, romantic dinners and for a treat. With regards to prices, I feel it offers excellent value for money because it is simply very, very good.

Gorgeous restaurant that promises fantastic views and yet... most of the best views (towards the…read moreriver) are blocked and only available in the little room by the bar? Odd choice. The tasting menu was overall very good but uneven -- for example, the mackerel and sirloin were fantastic but the millefeuille was pretty average. Nothing was bad, however. Service was a bit uneven for a place of this price point and ambition (after all, they do keep mentioning being on the Michelin guide). Our server was confused by my wine bottle order and I had to correct her. Then she mixed up one of the wine pairings for one of our dinner companions, who opten for the pairing for each item on the tasting menu. And at some point throughout the evening, they just stopped collection our empty glasses so our table got cluttered. I still had a good experience overall, and I enjoyed my meal other than the dessert, but I would've expected a bit better service for a place of this caliber.

The restaurant is at the top of the building with windows from all directions. Even the restroom (the sink area, not the actual WC) had a nice view of the river/city. 2) The food was so elegant and presented as art - yet everything was very tasty. I enjoyed everything and the quantity and quality was perfect for my three course meal. and 3) Service was prompt and refilled our glasses often. For my meal I had the following: Starter: Mushroom Tartare Beverage: Frenchiess (Raspberry, Vanilla, Lime Apple Mocktail) Entree: Pork Dessert: Chocolate Mouse Honestly, this would be a great date location and/or a celebration meal for a graduation, promotion etc or if you're just wanting a good meal with a beautiful view a on regular Wednesday - It's a great spot! Enjoy!

It doesn't look very inviting from outside, but don't be fooled. This is a superior restaurant that offers good, imaginatively themed food - and the staff are extremely welcoming. Went there for a an early dinner before a concert at Royal Hall, Harrogate (which is just a short walk from this place). I tried several different "British tapas", all of them good (see pictures). The waitress was very friendly and helpful. She recommended three tapas for a full meal, but I ended up ordering four. I left very well filled. Would give a fifth star if the decor and location were nicer. Everything else was good.

A really good restaurant serving Tapas-sized portions of freshly cooked delicious dishes…read more The food is continental rather than simply Spanish so there's a variety of stuff on the menu. The advantage of smaller dishes is that you can have a bigger range of food and share with your friends. I've eaten here a few times and it's always good, and the people running it are attentive and welcoming. On certain nights there is a theme offering excellent value packages of food and wine - those are worth a serious look. The room itself is lovely. It's on the first floor so less noisy traffic-wise although on a good night a bustling and buzzing atmosphere takes over. With windows all the way round 2 sides it's a bright and well appointed setting, and it's clean too. Not too much space in the toilets so by the end of the night when a couple more glasses of wine have been consumed there's often a queue - that's about the only mild negative I can come up with. Each time I've been I've found it hard to squeeze in the amount of food I wanted to try as everything looked so delicious... It can get busy on a Friday or Saturday night so I highly recommend booking if that's when you want to go.
