Chef Lavell worked with us to come up with an original, delicious pescatarian menu that incorporated all of our favorite foods--blue cheese, salmon, and truffles. The Moroccan spiced salmon was a big hit, and the chef's homemade smoked Jamaican jerk sauce could pair well with anything! Another comment on the jerk sauce--it provided our wedding menu a bbq option--an experience we wanted to provide to our out-of-town guests. In addition to the main fish options, the creamy risotto side with Romano cheese, shiitake mushrooms, spinach, and pine nuts was so delicious I could have made a meal of it alone! Even my vegetable-averse parents liked the roasted Brussel sprouts and the salad (a beautiful combination of candied pecans, roasted squash, and pickled red onions). Chef Lavell also sourced our favorite desserts--crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, and pecan pie. Unfortunately, my wife and I were so busy at the wedding that we barely had time to taste the food brought to our table; however, Chef Lavell very thoughtfully and generously provided us with a some prepped meals to-go--we otherwise would have missed out on our own wedding menu! The food was delicious--and so too was the price! The quote from Real McCoy Catering came in at almost HALF those dished out by other Austin caterers. Chef Lavell had suggestions for how to cut costs without significantly impacting the experience, like bringing in our own alcohol and serving buffet-style. He was also attentive to details like making sure the tables were set beautifully--even having the servers' ties match the color of the tablecloths! Chef Lavell is cheery and reassuring; I got a big smile on my face every time I spoke with him leading up to the wedding--no easy feat considering the stress that planning a wedding can bring. She guided us in our menu selection and style of catering, and in the end put together a fabulous spread for our wedding! We had wanted to stay away from the typical meals you find at weddings, and gravitated toward comfort food incorporated with upscale dining. After speaking to her about the types of restaurants and foods we like, she set up a tasting for us and our parents with what we had come up with. She hit the nail on the head with every morsel! There was a selection of appetizers, main dishes and sides to choose from, as well as a refreshing non-alcoholic watermelon juice drink. Everything was phenomenal! We ended up choosing a tuna tartare, open-faced duck taco, and goat cheese tartlet for our cocktail reception appetizers--all super yummy! We also had a mac and cheese station, with truffles as an option to add, which we thoroughly enjoyed! There were also two specialty drinks we came up with last minute (one "girl" drink--a white wine peach sangria, and one "boy" drink--a vodka martini infused with jalapeño and cucumber)--those went fast! The sit-down reception started off with a salad consisting of butter lettuce, blue cheese, candied walnuts and green apple with a lemon basil vinaigrette--sooooo good. We decided to do family style dining for our guests to choose whichever dishes they like and the amount they wanted. For the main dishes, there was an amazing beef tenderloin (really on par with some great steakhouses) with French compound butter & crispy fried onions and a succulent halibut with Italian salsa verde, quinoa and sautéed kale. The sides were potatoes au gratin, which was creamy and rich, and sautéed garlic spinach. Everyone couldn't stop talking about how extraordinary all the food was! Leslie also helped us with our linen selection, which included all the dishware and glassware as well as any extras like custom tables. She really knew the style we were going for, so it made for a quick and easy appointment. I didn't have to worry about dealing with that particular vendor at all--she did all the work for me! Only thing I didn't like was that the vendor didn't provide the same salad plates (they were gold-plated) to match all the silver-plated dinner plates. Other than that, Leslie also dealt with the entire alcohol and bartender situation at my venue, which was confusing to me--that was much appreciated! Overall, I'm super satisfied with how everything turned out, and beyond impressed with the high level of restaurant-quality food that was provided! I would love to go back just to do another tasting cuz it was that good!

Our world shut down in Texas 3 weeks before our wedding date. I am giving The Union 1 star due to the fact that they were not willing to refund out deposits. I had to cancel my wedding due to Covid-19, as my fiancé's side is all from New York. On April 2nd, 2020, everything, including The Union, shut down. Based on the contract, this should have fallen into Force Majeure, for which I should have received all monies paid. However, I because I decided to hold onto the last large lump sum of my remaining balance, I "broke contract" and they will not be giving my any refund. Thank God I didn't pay the remaining balance because they would have kept that too. To be fair, The Union did offer to let us reschedule the wedding date at not cost, but given the current state of the country and travel restrictions, it's not worth the risk of endangering my loved ones. We would have considered rebooking when/if things got better, but the venue does not hold the same feeling it once did.

I was immediately greeted by the owner Mai Lan. She gave me a full run down on her business and was eager to point out that she is all about clean and healthy eating. There are lots of things going on here. What's going on in the kitchen? Mai Lan is a chef who resources local sources for fresh healthy organic (when available) foods. She makes a menu every Sunday for the preceding week of Mon - Fri which she can email if you are on her list. Every day of the week she has a different meal. She can cook and cater or you can stop by and grab a ready made grab-n-go lunch or family meal. Prices are pretty reasonable from $8 - $25 give or take. Call in family meals by 0900 the morning of to give her enough time to have your meal prepped for your pick up time. She also has Paleo Breakfast Taco Kits for $18 - $20. All prices subject to change. What's going on in the small entry room? This is where you will find lots of grass fed nitrate free meats (from R5 Cattle Co. and Pederson's) and extra large organic pasture raised eggs for sale along with some herbal drinks, coffees (third coast and organic moon), pure maple syrup, in-house made bone broths from beef, turkey and chicken (last two are "when available), pure almond butter, sweets, Buddha's brew and various snacks. Prices are reasonable and I was pleased to find a great variety on the meats. I was pleasantly surprised that the jambalaya had sausage, brisket and chicken in it so every bite had at least meat. It did have a small kick, but overall it was amazing. The rice wasn't over cooked and the meat wasn't dried out. I will definitely get this again. The banana pudding was FANTASTIC!!!! The vanilla wafers were still crispy and the flavor was outstanding. I was sad I didn't get two. I am very excited to go back and try the brisket burger as it sounds amazing from the description the owner gave me. I will update my review as I try more.

It lent itself beautifully to a 2020 wedding- with such an open, airy aesthetic that you feel compelled to throw up a pic on your IG because you're suddenly at 'influencer-level gorgeous' standing against these white bricks with that fabulous golden-hour lighting. Let's talk about logistics. As a guest, Hutto is definitely not right near Austin, but the Lyft ride wasn't bad at all and the wedding had set up a shuttle bus to get folks to the Austin hotel after the wedding. I'm not sure how many Lyfts or Ubers you'd find if you went searching at 11pm, so the shuttle back was a big plus. The venue itself had two large spaces (one presumably for the ceremony and the other for dinner), with a bar space and an outdoor area (cocktail hour vibes). I didn't see a kitchen, but this wedding had dinner set up as a buffet in the now-empty ceremony room, catered by a BBQ food truck out back. There's an upstairs area for the bridal party to get ready, which presumably has a bathroom (I didn't get up there. I was a +1). The bathroom sitch for guests included a women's room with a couple of stalls and shared sink/mirror space and one single men's room (which caused a bit of a line, but not terrible). Overall, if I was an Auton...ite? Austonian? Anyway, if I lived in Austin, I would absolutely consider this venue. It's minimalist, historic vibe allows you to forgo the unpleasant hotel ballroom pipe-and-drape decor, and you can add a few bits of greenery and call it a day with decor. FABULOUS!

We even had a professional florist as a guest at our wedding and she commented on how impressed she was by our florals. Evening looked absolutely exquisite and the day went so smoothly.
