The bridge is in very good condition, completed in 1850 or so. It is the oldest existing covered bridge in all of Alabama! Originally located on Coldwater Creek and allegedly built by slaves, it was relocated to here and the original site now has a boring concrete and steel bridge. This bridge was fully restored in 1990 and is in excellent condition. The bridge is no longer open to vehiclular traffic but you can absolutely walk through it and think back to what it must have been to drive your horse-drawn wagon across this bridge. The first of my many stops was here in Oxford. Coldwater Covered Bridge was built in 1850 and is located at Oxford Lake Park just behind the Oxford Civic Center. It was relocated here in 1990 from its original location (about 8 miles west) and spans a small creek created by the overflow water from Oxford Lake. The bridge is 63-feet long and uses a hybrid combination of the Multiple King Post and Town Lattice truss systems. At 165 years of age, it is the oldest surviving covered bridge in the state of Alabama. It is also known as Hughes Mill Covered Bridge due to its proximity to Hughes Saw & Lumber Mill when it was first built. Although the bridge was severely damaged in 1920, repairs made it possible to keep the bridge functional for vehicular traffic. It was eventually replaced in 1974 by a concrete bridge, then totally restored before being relocated to its current home. The park and bridge can actually be seen from Interstate 20 and only takes you out of the way by a few minutes if you choose to stop here. Just take exit 185 for Hwy 21 (Oxford/Anniston) and go north to Recreation Road (currently there is a McDonald's on the corner). Follow it until you see the Civic Center and park on the lake side. The inside has a small area dedicated to PO Boxes .... but these are pretty fancy PO Boxes, ones you would expect to find in like a Beverly Hills. Not a ton of space, and the lighting is kind of dim. But, from the looks of things, they aren't too crowded and the person working the counter takes care of people really quickly. The building itself is an old brick building that just looks as if it's been around since the 1800's, but has been taken care of extremely well! If you were in the area and needing postal services, I'd recommend this location to anyone....really nice!

There is a person located near the front entrance that can direct you where you need to go if you let them know what you are after. Staff, everywhere I encountered them, were friendly and helpful. The person I needed to see was actually out, but they gave me a business card and let me know when she would be available - and recommended that I call so that I could make sure she was there. At the end of the day, I actually found out what I needed w/o needing help. But, it's nice to know that these guys are here - friendly - and available to help should I need something.

The community rose up to support the families and for more than 2 months. Flags were being waved off bridges and the grass area here because covered in flags and notes. A flag pole went up within two weeks and money was raised for what you see here. Chattanooga stood strong during and after this event but will not be forgotten.

It is not the case the government is shut down, I don't think they ever opened up. I haven't received mail in two months without any explanation or options in getting mail delivered. I have to drive 40 miles to pick up mail because the mail carrier won't drive one mile down a passable road to my mail box that UPS and FedEx have no trouble getting to. D.H.

Great Park, Lots To Do…read more This is a great park for kids. Unique park with unique activities and them makes for a good day to play. Treehouse theme is cool and they have some good slides for the kiddos. There is also a walk at path that goes somewhere, but I have gone far down it yet. Across the road is a tank, helicopter and plane or so I am told as well. Parking can be tricky on a weekend as it gets packed and a spaces are limited. Nice park with mostly friendly people.

They have one pavilion that has picnic tables so if it isn't rented out you can use. There are a few benches near the park but on a hot day shade is minimal. I like that they have a variety of climbing objects, plenty of swings, including the two in one where you can have a baby in a baby swing while you're in a adult one. It's a decent sized playground so plus the parking situation is pretty good. Not too hard to find parking.
