The Stone River Greenway can be accessed by several trailheads in the Donelson/Hermitage area. The…read moremost popular access points are along Lebanon Pike. I made my way onto the Greenway via the Kohl's trailhead, which is an entrance found at the back end of the Kohl's department store parking lot. It's not glamorous, but gets the job done. At this entry point you are directed under, around and onto the Bob Sheehan Memorial Bridge. As you walk this path, you are next to the Stones River, as well as Lebanon Pike. Once you get beyond the immediate area, you finally hit the trails. The trails are a collection of pathways from wide roads between the river and neighborhoods, to slimmer walkways in the woods. There is not one identity for the trails here, and they seem kind of pathed together. But even so, they get the job done for those who enjoy walking, jogging or biking. Additionally, Ravenwood Park can be found just a half mile or so down the trail from the Kohl's trailhead. While I didn't not explore this park, it too has an interesting history. There is a lot of construction happening along large stretches of the trails, mostly that of new neighborhoods. This takes away from the nature aspect of the greenway, but I get it... Overall, the Stones River Greenway Trails get the job done. I prefer other stretches of the greenway such as those near Two Rivers, but when in the area or just needing a change of scenery, this portion of the trail is a decent option.

Nice little hike on a paved trail. We saw lots of deer! Great parking at the old lodge right off…read morethe road.

A nice piece of greenery in Hermitage, Tennessee. The park is located at the intersection of two…read morebusy roads, so this park will never recreate the feeling as if you were away from it all. No, the sound of continuous traffic crushes that illusion, but that traffic, that hustle and bustle, is exactly why we need parks, both big and small, to simply just get some grass under our feet and decompress. The center point of the park is the Hermitage Park Sundial, a sculpture by Joe Sorci called Clear for Landing made of aircraft wings. All in all, pretty cool and I am glad I got to stand before it. One thing that stood out, at least to me, was a child scrawling "Lena was here" in a child's scrawl. Hopefully this park will remain within her memories throughout her life, a place of happy summertime laughter and the simple joy of childhood. The park also boasts a community center. Again, a tie to bond the people it serves. All on all, this park serves this community well. While there are drawbacks, the park stands in defiance of urban sprawl or perhaps it stands in celebration of a growing city, serving as a respite from the concrete and asphalt. I am glad that I visited. While perhaps I did not write my name on the sidewalk, like that child named Lena, I was here and I am better for it.

What a great find!…read more This park is a perfect spot to enjoy the few days of sunshine we have during the winter months. There are two jungle gyms, multiple swing sets and a volley ball court. There's also a few sand pits for kids to play in and dig for fossils. The parking here is tight, but there are two lots. I would recommend the lot near the rec center, there are way more available spots. Looking to have a picnic? You're in luck!, there is plenty of open space and a ton of picnic tables. Make sure to take a walk on the wooden tree bridge near the center of the park!

We made our reservation through www.recreation.gov (military affiliation not required), and only a few sites were unreserved. Even on a weekday in April, it's a popular place! There are roughly 60 sites, all with electricity and water but not sewer hook-ups at the sites. (there is a separate shared dump station). Prices range from $28-$32 with the more expensive sites being those that are waterfront (if you're lucky enough to snag one!) A discount is available for National Park Service Interagency Senior Lifetime Pass-holders. What's to like? Well-maintained, clean campground. In fact, you're given a trash bag upon arrival to encourage you to keep your site clean. On-site fun, including swimming and boating on the lake, as well as a playground. Friendly and helpful staff. Kudos to the gentleman at the Attendant Booth. A bathhouse with showers and laundry facilities. Benches with a water view to enjoy the sunsets. Some pull-through campsites. Good security. The gate is locked each night from 10 pm-6 am (although we were informed how to enter/exit if we needed to). Reasonable price. Also, Nashville is within 30 minutes. And, what's not to like? We were informed that skunks frequent the area, so you need to store food in approved containers. (We didn't see or smell any). We experienced high winds during our visit, so boating and/or swimming were out of the question. Also, Wi-Fi is not provided at this campground.

The playground is awesome. Taylor Swift went to high school in Hendersonville. So she herself paid for the playground equipment for the kids. And I must say the playground equipment itself is super cute! Love the castle. It's awesome to see celebrities give back to their hometown. And they have a take a book leave a book library for the kids. Amazing! 2. Such a great spot for a quick fishing trip. I always see lots of people on the shore fishing and a few in their kayaks as well. On our most recent trip, my father in law caught a small bass. Of course we let it back into the water, but my kids were so excited to see their grandpa hook one. 3. There's also a handful of tennis courts that were being perused. The walking trail is a great way to enjoy the beautiful spring weather and get some exercise! And with the scenery, it's a nice spot for a date or picnic with the family. Just be careful where you step since there are a lot of ducks roaming the area. 4. And the bathrooms are spotless!!!!! I had to throw that in there. This is such a great place for families and to enjoy the fresh air.
