She is a perfect teacher, you can easily see she cares about the quality of her teaching and she always remain energetic in her class. She is very nice, and warm hearted, yet strict. sweet and firm:) She cares about the students' progress as much as the parents. Before I found her, even though I did not know anything about piano, I had to follow my daughter's class material so I can help her at home. I always thought that was because teacher did not have enough time to go through everything, and it was necessary for parents to be so involved. With Dina, I realized with a good teacher, parents did not have to struggle at all. Dina set very clear expectations, and she does not hurry things, and she never have the kids play many pieces. With her, both my daughter and I are super comfortable with the amount of work/practice we have to do at home. Dina stays on top of everything. With Dina, We learn theory/sight reading/ear training. She also makes sure the students do not get bored playing one pieces too much. she carefully alternate different songs and different activities. She is also strict. My daughter had very bad finger positions, for over a year, Dina keep trying to correct her, and literally hand in hand, hold her fingers to help her. After A WHOLE year of effort, my daughter now have perfect finger positions thanks Dina's persistence. Dina teaches students music as a whole, and she really focuses on dynamics, The music from my daughter now sound so much better. Dina also requires her students to take CA level test. I initially thought that might be too much a work for us. But Dina not at all added any more stress, she is only using exams to keep track of students progress. I can not believe my daughter not only passed the exams easily, the result were good/excellent. A year ago, this would be unthinkable. From personal side, Since we have Dina, I fought with my daughter much less :) the homework and practice were comfortable amount, in classes, my daughter already practiced to a level that was comfortable for her, I do not need to struggle with learning the new pieces at all. (Strange, with all my past teachers, I had to sit down to learn every new pieces with her). I also enjoy the level of books/music Dina picked for my daughter. One of my previous teachers were either too hard for too easy. Dina has a good suggestion on where my daughter's level is. It has been a year, now my daughter plays like a real musician:) I will stay with Dina as long as I can, I am so lucky to find her. I only wish I found her from the beginning, that would save lots of work and pain. When my son reaches the age, I will start him with Dina for sure.

We started our daughter on piano (actually an electronic keyboard) to "try-it-out" not wanting to invest too heavily into some high-priced equipment or high-pressure, "Tiger-Mom" music schools. Alison has been the perfect choice, she is patient and really connects with the kids to make music fun and enjoyable. Our eight-year old really looks forward to the music lessons and has been doing quite well on keyboarding, music theory, and reading sheet music. Alison also holds recitals for her students, and our daughter was very excited about performing in public. Alison was able to spend more time with her to get her ready for the recital, and our daughter very much enjoyed the extra practice and had a great time. After one year of lessons, we are now looking to upgrade our daughter to a "real" piano and continue with Alison for our daughter's lessons. Alison is committed and passionate about what she does and works at the students' pace to make music fun and enjoyable. Some of our daughter's friends who started at local "Tiger Mom" schools in Cupertino, couldn't deal with the pressure at those schools and dropped-out of music altogether (sad). We are so happy we took the moderate, steady approach to our daughter's music education, and our daughter is now loving it!!!

Learning piano is a journey and is not easy especially for young children. It requires passion,…read morediscipline and inspiration. Not coming from a musical family and not knowing how to play any instruments, my husband and I decided to send my daughter to Opus 1 Music Studio for a well rounded musical education, so she can learn how to play piano, learn about music theory and music history. She can be challenged, encouraged and inspired by professional teachers and the community of students, learn to appreciate music, and build a lifelong love of music. She is 8 now and has been taking Piano lessons with Teacher Chaz for about a year and half. She has made great progress, really enjoys every lesson and looks forward to the lesson each week. We are very pleased with our experience so far and feel very lucky to have Teacher Chaz as our daughter's first Piano teacher. 1. From my daughter's point of view, Teacher Chaz is strict and fun! He has high standards which you would expect from a Level III teacher and emphasizes a lot of techniques which are super critical in the long run. At the same time, he keeps piano learning fun for young children. He has extensive experience working with young children, when he sees my daughter struggling with certain parts of the pieces, he works with her creatively and tries various methods with her to help her practice and improve. He is alway very patient in answering my daughter's endless questions and satisfies her curiosity. My daughter really likes her teacher and appreciates all the time for how much she has learned from Teacher Chaz. 2. From parents' point of view, Teacher Chaz is very experienced, professional and flexible to work with. He provides educational resources and opportunities that guide parents in helping children at home; he knows when and how to challenge students; he respects and works with the parents to set the right goals that work for the student and the family. I can't imagine how we can stay committed and progress on this journey without his guidance, support, encouragement, and inspiration. It has been a great pleasure working with Teacher Chaz! Opus 1 also offers free recitals 3 times a year. My daughter has attended 4 times already (2 online and 2 in person). Although it takes a lot of effort to prepare, it elevated her performances and created such rewarding experiences for her. She was nervous each time, but is also always looking forward to the next one. After 1.5 years of learning, she enjoys playing Piano more than ever! Thanks Teacher Chaz and Opus 1 for the amazing experience!
