Straight forward, like the rest of San Fernando's Recycling centers. No weirdos hanging out here.

So, I am reading these reviews-noticing how they either LOVE or HATE this place. I live in North…read moreHollywood, and I used to go to the center behind Smart & Final on Laurel Canyon, until one day I drove behind the store, just as I always did, and there was no recycling center there? Confused, I began looking for somewhere else to go with my saved recycling. I stumbled upon this place. On my very first time BOTH my boyfriend and I noticed we got more money here than we did anywhere else; they even rounded up. ($x.74 meant I got $x and three quarters.) However, I would like to mention when I got there with my boyfriend, I got on the scale and made sure it was right. Like, right away- I didn't even ask the guy. My boyfriend handed me an empty container to see how much the scale had increased. He checked the amount with the number written on each bin before we filled it up. He's a carpenter, so he's really good with math, and would know exactly how much their weight actually was. (But we do this everywhere we go, so they know not to screw us over.) We're both Caucasian looking, I happen to be half Mexican, and we both speak/understand Spanish. (Although my ginger-haired boyfriend totally speaks it better than I do, My father never taught his kids the language.) So I guess it was kind of a given that we would get the amount that they 're supposed to give us upon weighing the recycling. My suggestion is the same as if I were to go buy a car or get my car worked on-bring a MAN with you, preferably one who speaks Spanish and someone who isn't shy. (Or make sure you are the type to speak up.) I have since gone without my bf, a few times alone-twice with my adult son. I have never had an issue. They have even helped me out with sorting the recycling. It shouldn't be this way. In an ideal world, one wouldn't have to bring a Spanish speaking man to ensure they received what they have brought in/ earned. This is the unfortunate world we live in. I advise anyone who has been burnt by these guys financially to come back and try bringing someone with you who speaks Spanish and have them communicate with the guy weighing. Grab an empty container before putting your cans/bottles or whatever, then weigh yourself (But make sure you know your correct weight and are comfortable displaying it in public-whoever you are; if you're shy doing this or uncomfortable etc. just remember to tell yourself that you're beautiful regardless of what anyone else thinks or says and despite whatever that number may be. Know your beauty and believe in yourself, confidence is key-F*&K what anyone thinks!) and THEN fill up your basket/container and when he weighs it, have your own calculator right there to check if you cannot do the math in your head. Don't let anyone cheat you! For those who say they have been scammed, I am truly sorry. NEVER let anyone take from you, speak up, speak out-reach out, although it may not do much after the fact, it probably would have been more effective to have spoken up in the moment. But either way, don't let ANYONE come up on you, no matter how small the amount-what's yours is yours, no one else's. I had a positive experience here, but I only gave it 4/5 stars because: -It always smells like sh*t, -Is way too hot inside, -Is incredibly sticky and dirty everywhere, -Rarely any napkins to clean yourself off with, -Sink is usually non-operable, so washing your hands is highly unlikely -The guy working there sometimes has an attitude (depending on who it is)
