We hiked through the entire North Prong Trail which totaled about 7 miles and it was truly gorgeous. There were some difficult moments at points, but nothing I couldn't do. The weather was nice, there was plenty of parking to head into the trails, and I had a great time. The Canyons are absolutely stunning and mesmerizing know this is hidden away in Texas. Bring firewood! More on that later…read more PROS: The hiking was amazing with various terrain from flat fields of gorgeous wildflowers to difficult rocky climbs. Had to climb up in a few places and hoist my dog up some shelves. Beautiful views of the canyons and rivers. We heard coyotes several times each night. It's a dark skies park, so if you're into stargazing this is the place for you. CONS: Back to the firewood. The parks always say not to bring wood because it can spread insects to the area, but they did not have any firewood available for purchase. Had to leave and drive to Quannah, and the only wood they had was pinon which is not good for cooking. Hope to save you a trip! Restrooms were very dirty and full of bugs - I mean covered. Took one pretty gross shower. The worst state park restrooms I have seen. The second night we had a noisy group using a generator all afternoon and evening until 10 pm (in the tent camping area) and playing loud music. I don't get why people go to nature to drive the animals away with their noise. Wish the employees had circulated more and noticed. We left early, not just because of the restrooms and other campers. There was also not much to do since the lake is low and the swimming area is closed. There is no visitor center, shaded bird watching area or anything else to do during the hot part of the day.

Probably the most well-known and important point is that they have a free roaming herd of bison in the park. That's right, Texans don't have to go all the way to Yellowstone just to try their luck of surviving petting a bison. But seriously, don't pet the fluffy cows. There's so much more here than just bison though. Plenty of bird watching opportunities, miles on miles of trails, and camping, to name a few. I camped here very comfortably, although there are plenty of noisy coyotes and nosy raccoons, so it's still a good idea to keep your food put away. The visitor center is very well done with friendly staff, clean restrooms, and plenty of souvenirs to choose from. This is the best place to start your visit so definitely come give this park a shot.

It has a…read morelarge play structure with 5 or 6 slides and about 3 toddler swings + 6 swings that would hold older children up to adults. It is filled with gravel or small Pebbles and there is a partial fence around it. There's lots of beautiful green grass for running and playing ball and walking dogs and some pretty trees to offer shade when they're full of leaves. We saw lots of families here when we brought the kids here to play. There is a church next door and a school right across the street so it feels like a perfectly safe place to bring the kids to play. They had a great time!.

Right beside the park there are some water activities, but we haven't checked those out yet so I can't comment on those. The only thing I'm not impressed with are the bathrooms...very simple, not very clean, and I don't recall seeing any soap, although I could have missed it. This park is a valley between homes and is quite wide, bordered by East Georgia Avenue on the north. There is an open space in the center that isn't quite flat enough for game play but would be fine for a picnic or outing. Several picnic benches throughout plus more than playground, two swing sets and a covered stage with several rows of set seating. The park was being used by some parents and kids today so I didn't want to take too many pictures lest I get the label of "creepy dude." The park is clear from litter and the grass is cared for. I've seen many beautiful beaches from Florida to Puerto Rico but this hike and midway views are the best, this particular hike is the first left turn inside the park (if I can find the actually name I will edit it in) it has a distinctive orange barn roof and fencing that you can't really miss, we did try and go to info where a sweet young girl pointed out this trail and way to many other things for us to follow along with so we went with this trail and have stuck to it, it can take 15 to 3 hours of hiking and exploring delinks on the type of hiker you are lol are you there for the exercise and views or the fresh air and appreciation you know!
